Well i saw the news yesterday and they had a thing on that kid who was sueing whistler and his school. The Jury found that the school was 15% responsible, the kid was also 15% responsible resbonsible and whistler was found 70% responsible for his actions. So whistler is going to have to pay 70% of a 5 million dollar pay out.

Ok, i dont agree with this verdic at all. But you have to think if you got hurt, couldnt move and shit like that you would sue them and you know it. Its not there fult and he probly knows it but if you can get 5mil out of it why not? I dont know what i would do, hell think about it your life is basicly over, he will need the money for things to make it so he can try to live his life.

But I can get the jist of what happened and it sounds stupid. In colorado, they have some law that while skiing, you have all of the responsibilty. it must bhe there to prevent shit like this.

it wouldnt surprise me if whistler can there parks except for 'highest level' because of the waiver you have to sign to get in there and the $11 for the season.

I doubt things will change on Blackcomb thought, they put way to much PR into there parks, it'd hurt them not to have them, but they will pproblley suck more now, just like how theres no jumps on the public park in the summer due to insurance, It's not even whistler that will pay for the kids damages i bet, the insurance will, but they will have to pay more preimumes which will mean

things will probley cost more in future, (Park pass) $500 or something gay to that extent,

i amde a mistake he originally asked for 5 million but the jury awarded him 3 million, and he was sueing his school for inadequate supervision. Seeing as how it wasn't an extremely large amount of money for whistler to pay they'll most likely make the entire terrain park something you'll have to buy a pass to. (my guesse is that they wouldn't ask the insurance company to pay for the fees).

My mountain job in the winter is cooking food for schools, that come up for school trips, (burgers, & pizza) without schools coming to whistler, there will be no need for my job thus, i don't get my same job back, but i was in a mangement position at that place for next season,

i don't need that job, but i would return because it's alright

just like this summer, had i not broken my knee, i would have been a cook for summer camps, but because of SARS, The other countries where scared to send there kids to whistler, and canada,

tamewood had 75% less kids that last year, so i would have been laid off had i remained at this job,

Furture more, I broke my back on a ski hill, although i can still walk, i would have never had a case in court,

i feel bad for the kid, but what he's done is excessive,

Ya, it sucks that he's paralyzed. But he chose to hit the jump so tough shit. I don't know how the court system works up here but in the States you can appeal a decision to a higher court. I hope this happens because it's total bullshit to say that someone else is responsible for that kid hitting the jump, messing up, crashing, and paralyzing himself....the key word 'himself'. Nobody else did it to him.

But we shouldn't sit back and watch things happen. His parents' and lawyer didn't chill out. They blamed someone else for the kid's actions. That is WRONG!

Freezy, I do empathize for his injury. It really does suck that he got hurt in a place that has been my whole life for the last 6 years. But I know people who have been just as badly injured or killed in our sport. They didn't blame it on anyone else. They got on with their lives and made use of what they do have left. My point is that he is a high functioning quad, capable of supporting himself, and he doesn't NEED to go after millions of dollars to cempensate him for HIS OWN actions. This is a moral issue that affects a lot of people and he is infringing upon OUR rights as far as I'm concerned. He's abusing a system that is meant to protect us.

On a good note: Since he settled with Whistler/Blackcomb before the school trial, he won't see a penny of that 70% the jury somehow declared the resort was responsible for. He will only see 15% of the 5m his greedy lawyer went for (minus the greedy lawyer's fees). This is a good thing for this instance and what is morally right, however; the precident set will make for a bumpy road in the life of terrain parks. You can expect to see a few things change in the very near future.

sorry for the triple post, but I agree with Del-Gato. We need to chill out about the 'I hope he dies' comments. But we certainly shouldn't just sit back and watch our sport be taken away. We should voice our opinions in a democratic way. Write a letter to the newspaper if you want to. I think this goes much deeper than just terrain parks. It's our freedom that's being taken away. Think about it. If nobody is held accountable for their actions, theoretically, they will not be allowed the power to make their own decisions. It's a downward cycle...

I think the world has become with the 'Get rich without working for it theme' thats why lawsuit abuse has become such an incredible problem in this country. It's like insurance fraud the consumer pays. You can guess where the 3 mill is going to be passed along to. good guess the connsumers. Either they will subtract that from next years terrain park funding or ticket/food prices will raise. The money will come from somewhere and it is certainly us. Jury's spend to much time empathising and not enough time considering the facts. Some dumb fat bitch in Mcdonalds poured coffee all over her self and its Mcdonalds fault because they didnt label the container? WHAT DID YOU WANT BITCH COLD COFFEE? If we didn't let people get away with this it would be a better world you wouldn't have to sign a fucking wavier to piss in someone bathroom. I remeber when i was a kid playing paintball in some kids backyard his mom came out and made everyone sign a wavier where the fuck is this society going? what gets me is how is the school at fault at all. The article said that the lack of supervision justified there 15% fault, but since when does a 20 year old need to be supervised (granted it said he was 20 now, and didn't mention how old he was when it happened)?

Working in the industry I hate hearing about stuff like this, injuries suck, and it sucks when people get messed up and killed, but guess what, skiing is inherantly a dangerous sport. It's not like he got pushed over the jump, he chose to hit it, and paid the price. Injuries happen in this sport, if you don't like it, don't ski.

The kid is a fucking quadriplegic, meaning he cant use his arms or legs. So him getting the award is not a bad thing. How you would like it if that was you or someone you know. Its easy to say like well it would be my own dumb fault so I wouldnt sue. Do you think your family would be able to cover the costs of years of rehab, remodeling the house so your big motorized wheelchair could get through it? Yes the kid may have been an idiot and we shouldnt reward that but then again I would rather not have a penny than be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life. Plus it was only 3 million...and we all know $3,000,000 canadian = $10.50 american or some shit like that.
