The physics teacher at my school, bob crowley, won the popular CBS reality show "Survivor" about ten minutes ago. He is now a millionaire wooohooooooooooo.
 
congratulations! now all you need to do is get on your knees and earn yourself a piece of that pie.
 
lol. Since we're from maine and hes a die hard mainer, he lives on a small island and brings his classes out there sometimes. Last week he brought in a deceased snow owl to class which he found on his property and spent the whole class talk about it. He teaches physics but he rarely teaches it because he gets so easily side tracked.

thats cool dude, my brothers girlfriends uncle was the guy who came in 2nd on the first season cause he fucked up stupidly and took his hand off the post, woulda won. he got a nice suv as a consolation prize though.
 
dude, thats sick! i always wathc surviver. so is he acually a cool guy, or is he just a really random type of teacher? is anyone watching him on the morning show or whatever its called right now?
 
he probably couldnt quit teaching even if he wanted to....after taxes, that million bucks will turn into maybe like 600 grand. that's nowhere near enough to sustain him, his wife, and kids(if he has them) for the rest of his life.
 
yeah, how shitty is that?!

He could invest that 600k though, and double it, then invest that doubled amount of money into something else, and double that.

There are investments that are safe.
 
no but if he ever had a dream worth pursuing, a half mil can give him a good start towards actualizing it. Maybe (hopefully) he's one of those teachers who is doing exactly what he wants to do.

well he acctually won more than a million because he also won an extra $100,000 because he was voted the fan favorite by sprint texting or something. He's not just some random teacher at my school, everyone knows him and hes really cool
 
To be honest I dunno if he'll keep teaching after this year.. His daughter is in college, he's put his two sons through already, he said he has 300,000 to pay off of his mortgage, and he hates the school board for some mishap where another teacher threw him up against a wall... Right now he works like.. 3ish jobs (teaching, climbs and cuts trees, and does small snow-removal jobs in the winter) only to pay for his daughters education (who, may I say, is easy on the eyes). I think the tax percentage is 38%, meaning out of the 1,100,000$ he made, hed have say... 6,820,000? or something. I think he could live fairly comfortably after paying off his house and whatnot, considering he is also a just-for-fun lobsterman, and he can always cut down trees for cash. And he also built his own 'beach house' on an island, completely out of scrap and spare wood. He's definitely a true 'survivor' and I honestly don't see him feeling any need to continue teaching. He's taught for a while, and he's very intelligent, but he procrastinates worst than us. I mean, I had a test scheduled last month that I just took this morning (yeah he mentioned that on live television). I think he'd rather spend time with his wife on the island, or his house in S. Portland than teach. He definitely doesn't need to. But thats just my two cents.
