Okay, so today i'm over my friends house and we were lighting off some fire crackers. not anything big, just the tiny ones on the string, and not all at once just one at a time.(keep in mind these are illigal in CT) so suddenly this woman busts out of her house across the street (i dont know how she even heard them, she was inside her house like 500 feet away and they are small) and yells 'IF YOU DONT STOP DOING THAT RIGHT NOW I'M GOING TO CALL THE COPS!!' so we went back inside the house, but it realy depressed me that a couple kids lighting small firecrackers on their property could be threatened like that with the police. This is freedom? This is what our forefathers fought for, so nosy people could threaten their neighbors with harrasment and fines for peacefully doing somthing on their own property? And that this is where our law enforcement resorces are going? Our tax dolars? That realy made me sad.

i know so much is wrong, i think udercover police cars are bad too, isnt it their job to make us slow down, if we see a police car we wwill slow down, if we dont we wont, all they are doing is neglecting our safety and stealing our money, in the articles there was something about a $400 fine for not wearing a bike helmet? it is your own choice. and then their is police brutality it is sad. Land of the free?

 
stephen_beast- dont you think it's our responsibility to not speed in the first place? The police are only out after the people who can't take care of themselves, people who need to be babysat (sitted?) to understand the laws.

Anyway, yeah, it might seem trivial but some things you just have to deal with. To guarantee rights for all, some individual rights have to be sacrificed... it's the way government works.

yea i know that prolly came out wrong, It was too harsh, i Know it is our responsibility to be good drivers, but i think it is low to hide out so we dont see them and get tickets, especially since most hang out in speed traps

 
That's only because most people rely on trains, bikes or their feet for transportation- vehicles don't have near the importance that they do here. And when people do drive, they are much safer about it. Besides, that's a fallacy- there are only certain spots on the Autobahn that are unregulated.

most laws are put in place to keep ppl safe~~while what u were doing might not have been dangerous, if u had bigger fireworks than that could be really bad if u lit it and it sailed through ur neighbors window~~

lord_piot, it's so true. I can't even have a cigar in any public establishment (restaurant, bar, etc.) where I live. I'm going to storm city hall with a gun, and demand my freedom back. ahh, just like the good old days. actually, I probably won't do that.

yeah but most people dont even call the police..like me and a bunch of friends were skating out like in front of his house and it was at like 8 and this guy comes out of the house across from my friends house and goes ' if you dont stop doing that im going to call the police!!!!!' (probably just like the lady that yelled at you for firecrackers) and we were like ' ok!' and then he went inside and we just kept skating until about 11..and there was no police..it was funny

what's the difference between having a law against having fireworks and having a law against shooting your next door neighbor with them? the first teaches you to hide your fireworks well, the second teaches you to use your fireworks safely while protecting the rights of the majoraty who use them safely and dont deserve the fines or harassment.

I feel sick right now, because of what I saw tonight. I was waiting outside the movie theatre, waiting for my friend to pick me up when a police car FLYS by, no lights on, obviously speeding. We heard a screech and saw him turn around and fly into the parking lot, powersliding to a stop right in front of the kids on the sidewalk. He then jumped out and began SCREAMING at the kids 'EITHER GO INSIDE THE MOVIES OR GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!!!!! MOVE BEOFORE I THROW YOU ALL IN MY SQUAD CAR!' we were all kind of confused to what had just happened, and told him we were waiting for rides. He then started screaming 'YOU’RE NOT WAITING FOR RIDES, YOU’RE LOITERING. AND YOUR NOW TALKING BACK TO ME, THE NEXT PERSON I HEAR SAY ANYTHING IS GOING TO JAIL!!!I KNOW WHAT YOU PUNK KIDS ARE UP TO, I BET YOUR DEALING DRUGS!!! GET OVER HERE!!!'' he then rushed over to the nearest kid, and began searching him. Finding nothing, he told him if he was still in his sight in 30 seconds, he was taking him down to the station. After a few minutes, he forced all the kids across the street, and parked his cop car next to them to make sure they didn’t go back. Over the next 10 or so minutes, some of the kids’ parents began to show up at the movie theatre. Some of them, not finding their kids, left. Others saw them across the street, and came to get them only to be confronted by the officer telling them their children were loitering and dealing drugs. A few minutes later my friend picked me up, and we drove away. It left me with a sick feeling about this country, and the cops of this country. This is becoming a police state because there is no system of checks and balances for cops. There is no one supervising them to see if they are being corrupt or harassing. They can basically do whatever they want, and get away with it. I feel very sorry for our country today.
