Alriught so I got this pretty gettho(but new) video camera,it's a samsung mini dv . The problem is that the cable to transfer the video from the camera to a computer is not a usb cable. It's some weird cable a little bigger than usb and my computer doesn't have a hole for those kind of cables. So does anyone know if there's any kind of adaptator or anyone has an idea what I could do to put them videos on my computer, it's kinda important. Thanks alot for any help!

It might be, I have no idea I'm a total noob but what should I do with that firewire , Mycomputer is relatively new, like 2-3 years max so there should be a hole for thart right¸? What could I do?

thanks for help

you should check and see if it has a firewire port.. as you can see by looking at the cable, it looks like usb.. but one side is semi-rounded

so get to looking

otherwise, if you have a desktop, you can get a firewire PCI card to put in your computer

if its a laptop, i dont know what to tell you, because i literally dont know

pictures would help

what does the cable look like that goes into the computer? most camera cables look like little USBs. you may just need to get a different cable...

Many PC's lack firewire ports. I don't understand why, it seems like it should be a standard feature. Good thing i have a mac!

Firewire is more popular with Audio / Video applications. USB is popular with mice, keyboard, and more simple shit if you will.

The port is firewire. It is the only other port you should find on video cameras.

You will spend $20-30 on a PCI firewire card.

He couldnt tell it was firewire, you think he can install a pci card? I doubt it. Its easy as hell, dont get me wrong.

Test was run using an old IDE drive. I havent had an ide drive in my computer in years. Sata is much faster, especially when editing.

It doesn't really matter whether USB is better or not because basically every minidv cam ever made uses firewire, so if you want to import footage off of one of these cameras, you need firewire. simple as that.

It really doesnt matter anyway, all he would be doing is taking raw footage off the camera and putting onto his disk.

in actual application is, but usb actually reaches higher speeds than firewire :)

usb can hit 480 Mbit/s

firewire stays at a constant 400 Mbit/s

OH YEAH

technically he never specified which model of the macbook didn't have the firewire port. therefore, i deem you victorious.

Considering the 13 inch macbook is called the macbook, there was no need to specify.Had I meant the macbook pro, I would have specified macbook pro.

I actually bought one at best buy today way more expensive but I couldn't find any that ships to canada/takes paypal so wtv, I just need to install it as soon as my computer is repaired so tomorow hopefully, and hopefully it's easy to instal haha thanks a ton for the help mang
