ok so it seems that my campus has blocked p2p ports and the gnutella network(or from waht i can gather from another forum). They told me the solution lies in changing your ports and adding a proxy. i found a proxy from a site but im having trouble getting a port that will work. any computer geniouss wana help me out.

Limewire is so stupid I don't know why anyone even risks using it. Just fucking get itunes and buy your music, or if you have to, use torrents, then you don't have to worry about p2p blocking at your college.

first of all. you are stupid for even loading limewire onto your computer. it screws things up sooo bad. i donno if acquisition runs of the gnutella network but if it doesnt.... use that. cus its far better than limewire and its actually designed for macs. if it does then just use torrents or something like mytunes or ourtunes.

^^ r u talkin about limewire on os x? cus if u are then u are severely mistaken. it fucks your computer to shit. you probably wont notice it till u have to do somethin major. but at that point it will be to late and you will have to reformat ur hard drive. which sucks d.

buy? wierd...

itunes is a piece of shit, if your campus has a computer network, then there should be music and videos stashed all over it, that's assuming people have their private comps hooked up like at the campuses here.

torrents wont work if his ports are blocked.

I don't think

there's a command line port scanner in OS X, so your best bet is to

download a free port scanning software (such as Nmap) and use it to

find out which ports are open. When you find an open port, you should

be able to run limewire downloads through that port number. I don't

have limewire, so I don't know exactly how to assign port numbers in limewire, but i'm sure its in the options or preferences somewhere.

If you only want to download music, you can also use programs like myTunes Redux to download songs from people on your iTunes shared network, which is usually faster than downloading using P2P software.

yeah thats what i am expiriencing and im pissed. i miss limewire, i know its hella bad for your computer but i never had problems.

I'v never had any problems w/ limewire. I'v run it on Windows 98, XP Home, XP Pro, XP Media Center, and now on Vista. I do however recommend torrents over any p2p program like limewire, bearshare, winmx, and etc.

Limewire is the same no matter what OS you use. It a Java app so its the exact same program, the only difference is the Virtual Machine you run it on.
