OSU SKIERS

hey im considering osu. how easy is it to get to mad river without a car? cuz for the first year i wont have one, but id still like to ski 4-5 days a week. is there a bus that goes there? lots of people to get rides from? and how is mrm? i usually ski at perfectnorth so is it similar to there?

mad river is no perfect.... the big difference is the entire vibe and the difference in size of the features

the cool thing about college is that you can take off the winter quarter and go in the summer instead. this affords you the luxury of moving to a real ski destination for the winter (like i did this year) such as colorado or utah or really any place. but seriously, though, mad river is like 45 minutes or more from the campus area, and it's not that easy to get to. no bus. you could just ride with terman, but he's gay, so...

well as long as he doenst put the moves on me its worth it to ski. how often does terman go? are there many skiiers/boarders at all at osu?

terman taxi and luggage service? well they go to the airport a lot but i think they give rides to the ski area every other day at 8am and noon and 6pm

If your not gonna go out west you mine as well stick close to perfects, you really cant beat it for around here. I am guessing you want to go to school in ohio, for in state and whatnot. If you are not for sure about OSU why not look into UC, they have some great progams and such plus your home hill would still be perfects. So your not really losing either way...I dont think

didnt wanna stay so close to home. but i havent ruled out going to boulder yet. still deciding. but i didnt even apply to uc so cant go there

mad river had a pretty legit park this year. In a single run you could hit 3 jumps and 3 rails, 2 jumps and 5 rails, or just 8 rails, or 4 jumps. The park has decent flow. This was the first year for the new terrain park manager. I expect bigger and better things next season.

living near uc, i hate to say it but osu has a better edge on academics and im a osu fan GO BUCKS!!!!!!

hey dude if u got into osu main campus then go there.. its a great school and mad river has been improving for a couple of years now and they may not have 40 ft+ jumps but its always a good time.. more and more skiers are goin there now so its fun and you dont have to rule out snow trails either but they seem to be not focussing on their park nearly as much as they used to

yea i could see myself being ok with skiing snowtrails and mrm but how easy is it to get to these places with no car? cuz like if im only gonna be able to ski weekends that would suck

ok dude, so here's the real deal. if you don't have a car, you probably won't be skiing very often, that's just the sad reality. i would take you to ski, but i move away for the winters and don't ski in ohio at all. as for terman, he lives about twenty minutes away from campus and i don't think he'll be coming down here every day after work to pick someone up. i don't really know of anyone who goes skiing with any regularity during the week. people go here and there, but it would be very difficult for you to arrange something that you could count on week to week. my advice to you would be to suck it up for one season. go skiing when you can and enjoy it. you got into a great school and you should take advantage of that. you can worry about skiing five days a week the following year when you have mode of transportation of your own.

if parking is your issue, there are plenty of streets where you can just leave your car when you're not driving. you just have to move it one night per month when it's not winter for street sweeping. it's really easy and that's what i did when i was a freshman.

half of the issue is parking, the other is having a car. by the end of the summer ill def have enough $ saved to buy a car so im looking into options on where to put it. id only really even want it for dec-march anyways, otherwise itd be pretty useless

yeah dude the whole " you cant drive when your a freshman thing" is bullshit there are so many ways to get around that so all you need to do is get a car and you'll be set.. and im pretty sure if you buy season passes for next year now to mrm then its a lot cheaper

Yeah parkings not that bad, I know of 4 spots by the south dorms' basketball courts that you wouldnt even realize they were free places to park. If you cant get a car, Id probably be good for at least 1 ride a week. Im still deciding wether to get a pass to mad river or snowtrails though. I like snowtrails rails and the vibe there but the jumps were lacking last year imo. But like mark says, you can easily take a quarter off and go out west, i did it last winter and went to keystone.

Alright, this is what you want to do. Join the OSU Ski Team. They go skiing every Tuesday and Weds, then they go to other places around Ohio on weekends to race. Now when I say race, I don't mean like people jumping into speed suits and other shit. I raced this year on my Troublemakers and did pretty well. Most of the people just get their race over with and then go to the park. Also, they will drink you under the table. They also get a sick deal on Snowtrail season passes.

im working on getting a vehicle. im sure by the end of the summer ill have enough $$ to buy and insure a car, buy new skis, and pay for parking. when telling my parents about this they fuckin flipped. according to them if i ski more than once or twice a week ill flunk out. bull. but yeah im gonna go for the car idea if i end up at osu.

Looks legit, I mean gateway isnt owned by osu. $2 a day seem kind of expensive tho unless you just do it during winter which is ~3 months so $180 which is still pretty steep.

Lol, 4 times a week made me fail 1 class, and another class I got a D in so I just decided to take advantage of Freshmen Forgiveness (which you will learn all about and how awesome it is).

One of my buddies just parked his car in front of one of his friends house for the winter. It worked well. Be warned though, a lot of cars get scraped due to people driving a wee bit drunk (luckily his wasn't), so if you have a beater this is way cheaper.

Also, back to the Ski Team, it is worth checking it out just because of the deal they get on season passes to Snow Trails. There is an option where you don't have to pay race dues, so they don't mind if you just use the club for the pass.

k well im going to OSU now. if anyone can hook me up with rides, ill pay some gas money. might do that ski team idea, and will join the ski club which i hear takes a couple nice trips every year. hopefully ill have a car to drive myself there but idk yet, so just checkin if anyone here could help with rides

hey, did everyone forget about me? haha, i live on campus man, and i try to roll out as often as possible, but im busy with school a good bit of the time. hopefully this winter will be a little diff, but usually classes are real late and its tough to get out in time. but id love to split gas, my car is kinda a hog.

you could always get a west campus parking pass and just take the bus to and from your car. you might get some strange looks with your skis on the bus but o well. i think its somehting like $75 for the whole year.

that would work although i dont no if people know the value of skis and stuff, but his car could possibly be broken into but west campus parking is more in upper arlington so he probably wouldnt have aproblem with it
