Oshawa ski club

So heres the deal...

I live sorta near ottawa so I typically ski at the major quebec hills, tremblant, ste savuer, jay (vermont, i know), and camp fortune. During the school year though i live in kingston, which has absolutely no skiing around. Closest ones are Calabogie (2.5 hrs) and Kirby (less than 2 hrs). With that said, is it even worth the drive from kingston to check out kirby a few times this winter to get a ski fix? Ive heard some pretty bad things about kirby, but it looks like they have a couple decent park features which is all I'm looking for. A few jumps (nothing huge, 20-30 footers maybe?) and some decent rails that are maintained is all i need.

so whats your guys opinions here? is kirby worth the almost 2 hour drive from kingston?

man if your going to make the drive all the way from there id just make the extra 30 40 min drive to hit up damgar or lakeridge unless kirby is going to have killer shit this winter

yeah, but then the long-as-it-is 2 hour drive is now 2:40. do you really think its worth that drive to lakeridge?

I think you should make the drove to Dagmar. It is worth it! Try Lakeridge but there chair is to sketchy for me IT BROKE

Yeah..thats pretty freaky.

Personally, if you're looking for a park, i think it IS worth it driving to Dagmar from there, maybe at least once for you to decide for yourself if its worth it, because some of us might say it is (well most of us will), its just "is it worth it enough to drive that extra bit"

Kirby does have good hills, but you said you wanted a park, and I think Dagmar's is much better.

Man in all honesty if youve been riding the tremblant park your whole life it is not worth 2 and a half hours to get to dagmar. I have to fight myself to make the 20 minutes drive out there dude. There are no jumps (that are worth coming for)and Ill admit that the rails look dope this year and im gonna check em out, but i wouldnt drive 5 hours return to get to them.

Ok..I'm biased here..But

Yes it's worth the drive to kirby...and not the extra to Dagmar....Dagmars got a decent park...or so they say..I haven't been there for years....but keep in mind, it has less then half the terrain, much less vertical, and we have as big or bigger park...some of these guys have never skied Kirby, or not much, and go to Dagmar etc. because its closer to them....but thats just my opinion..

We have

300+ vertical feet

22 runs

3 Quad chairs

7 T-bars

2 chalets

Full Rental and Proshop....with demos....

a bigger park again this year with new features added every year..

and we are on par or cheaper..

you decide

OK i have skied Kirby a bunch of times and it is shit! Dagmar on the other hand may be small but they have 3 runs of pure park this year and even last year with 2 runs of park it was still better then Kirby

OSC it is, thanks guys.

Dagmars just too far... I couldnt imagine driving all that distance for it. I don't doubt Lakeridges pipe is the best around, but i can just imagine what it actually looks like (not picturing a very pristine pipe here...).

I just wanted a few things to screw around on for a day so it sounds OSC is the way to go.

anyone know when it opens?

7 t-bars... get with the times..haha

I say come to dagmar, and I am biased because I am the park guy, we ALREADY have about 10 rails and boxes open(tomorrow) 2 booters, that are pretty sweet for opening day, and about 6 of our 10 rails and boxes are brand new...we have a bangin sound system, Chairlift that is exclusive to the park... and a SKIER that runs and maintains the features, that actually hits and rides all the stuff. Kirby is cool and all, but if you're looking for a Variety of well maintained New and innovative rails and boxes Dagmar is your best bet. We have booters too, OUr Pipe is Balls.

Just do it and come to dagmar...

7 T-bars....PLUS our 3 quad chairs....lol

Our times started in 1936...and are still goin strong today...

We have we have AT LEAST 12 rails and built features...plus the booters etc...so...ya...there lol

We don't have a dedicated Chair...you got us there...we do have one that runs right beside the entire length og the park...granted it is used by everyone...

I widened our park another 30' this year....

Let the annual pissing match begin....kidding of course...

If we don't have the best park...thats Ok....I like to have a very diverse park that we change up once a month to keep it fresh....our builders are Skiers and Snowboarders....and they ride the park every day.....I ride the park most days for that matter, and I use the features....so being the General Manager I keep a keen sense of what works and what doesn't in the park, as well as what everybody wants, within reason, while also looking at the entire resort as a whole.

I give Kudos to Dagmar for stepping it up...your rails look awesome, and I hope you have a very successful year....because thats what really matters to all of us operators...because thats what gives us the money to keep these places open for all of you.

Every resort has there THING, I try to make our entire Resort a good place to ski and ride. So come on out sometime, you don't have to come here everytime, but for all who have never tried us, make your own opinions.

Cheers

thats actually not that bad as it use to be lol. In the photo section under rail jam some of the rails and boxes look pretty sick! But where it says pond jump isn't it usually pond skimming,or do you go of a jump into a pond? If you go off a jump that is pretty sick

Iset it up both ways...a skimming "Beach" and a kicker...I tried them both...I stayed dry skimming...got very wet off the kicker...lol

I think there is some pics of the puddl jump in the photo section...and some pics I took today are in the Members corner section

haha, honestly, i just say go to kirby unless you plan on slaying big rails

the dagmar booters are disgusting

lakeridge only has a pipe worth going for

and kirby is all around pretty good, sick tables for the size of the hill and snow conditions, a decent 50 foot rail and a couple other sick jib features

no shit :|

i havnt even been out to lakeridge this year, im just going by pretty much what ive heard in the past

just kirby and dagmar

im not gonna lie, lakeridge does look like they have a pretty decent park from the website

i'll be at kirby tomorrow (wed.) during the day, if ur gonna be there give me a shout or say hi to the guy with the red 05/06 scratchs and the white helmet.
