OK, what is din, i am a ski fanatic, and test em, but nobody ever told me what it is. I assume that the higher it goes, the more you get out of it, is that true

sarcasm is a wonderful thing

the higher the DIN the less likely your bindings will be to release after certain types of falls.

You set it with the big screw on the front of the toe peice of the binding, and the big screw in the back of most heel peices of bindings.

DIN is a setting you get from your Age, Weight, Height, Skier Type, and Boot Sole Length. The number represents how much presure it will take to hold you in. The higher the number them more pressure it can take before you eject out.

Example: A DIN setting of 5 takes 55lbs of presure to pop you out side to side and 120lbs in a rear realease.

A DIN setting of 10 takes 120lbs of presure to pop you out side to side and 360lbs in a rear realease.

You don't really want to go much over the shop settings, if you fall and get hurt you can not sue the shop/manufacture if you touched the realse settings.

How can you be a ski tester and not know what DIN is?

because no1 ever told me. I can tell you whatever you want about most skis these past 2 years(because i started last season), but have no clue what din is.

Din does refer to the numbers in your visual indicator settings on your binders. But the letters stand for Dutch International Norm, DIN.

I think. not too sure about dutch, but I think that is what it is.

'So, what is your strategy today Dan?'

'Well, I think I am going to start off slow, then taper off from there.'

you test skis and you started last season? That sound weird to anyone else? You mean you test them for yourself right? coz yah, I think we all do that. And I could tell you almost anything about skis for the last decade or so. It doesn't matter a hoot what you can tell me about skis, it matters how you ride them, and if you've been skiing since 'last season' and don't know what DIN is then that kinda doesn't add up yo.

if he doesnt just test for himself.. he could test skis for the begginers out there. a ski that is good for more advanced people wouldnt be as good for someone who just started out and visa versa. i dunno...

Tim he could've started testing one year ago..

note to all, put the din to what you want it to be. most people are on a 6,7 or 8. I ride mine at a 10, so I don't fall out of my bindings just because I din't land right. One most people you can go to a din of 12 to 14 between your knee gets torqued, but there are still the fluk accidents. but remember this. before you go and try to warranty anything about your binding if its broke take it to a shop and get them to give you the right din. or return it to the old din. if its up at 10 or 12 and you give it back, they will just give you the finger and throw your skis on the floor.

i've been skiing for 18 years and i never knew what DIN stood for. Pretty sure that's what this guy was after. Dutch Norm somethine...i forget already. Interesting..

no snow in fernie.might snow tonight..maybe.....damn.

I am pretty sure it's Duetche (sp?) Int'l Norm (as in German), but I may be wrong. I actually found it on the web about a week ago. I'll see if I can find it again.

Duetche, dutch, what's the diff? but that is what it stands for.

Duetche Is the German spelling for the word 'German'. Dutch is the english spelling referring to something that is from Holland aka the Netherlands. Not being a dick, just trying to educate the youngins, it makes me mad when Americans don't know anything about other countries. Not saying you don't, just for the benefit of all who read this, now maybe they learned something today.

P.S. I am from an American so don't assume I am making fun of them b/c I'm not.

I mean I am from America, but I guess w/ my parents being American I am from one too....unless the milkman was involved.

As long as we are being edumacated, DIN is the 'Deutsche Industrie Norm', which comes from the Deutsches Institut fur Normung (German Standardization Institute). It is a standard that is usually used on hydrolic and pneumatic devices.

Uhh, yeah, I am not American. And I know what the difference is, I just don't care.
