Anyone download it today?

im in the process right now and i'm curious if its as good as its supposed to be.

One thing that tripped me up at first was that the fullscreen button was moved from the top right corner to the green circle. Other than that, the transition was seamless and haven't noticed any issues so far. also iPhoto is now free which allows you to sync with iCloud and get to your photos.

Is anybody able to airdrop from their phone to their mac? My mac recognizes my phone but not vice versa. I'm wondering if this is something that gets fixed when iOS 8.1 comes out Monday

Continuity is well brilliant and gives a great glimpse of the future where there will be a true seamless experience when moving from one device to another.

It will only really function as an aesthetic update for me, and I like it as such. The option for a dark/black status and doc is great and the new doc isn't dated and tacky. The red icon for iTunes threw me off but I like it. Also to whoever said they changed the sound when you throw something in the trash I agree that it sounds much worse. Matter fact, I really liked they way it used to sound.

Does it brick any machines that aren't i cores? I have mavdicks and it didnt really have a positive result on an intel core 2 duo but it's not so bad that I feel I need to go back to snow leopard.

i'm ok with the new look, few things are significantly better (spotlight for example), but:

FCP X 10.0.8 DOESNT FUCKING WORK WITH YOSEMITE FUUUUUUUUUUUCK (and for "unknown, hue lel" reasons, i can't freely update that shit) FAK. was currently working on a project too. FAK FAK FAK.

oh and no sidebar on itunes for real now (unless you go on playlist), probs doesn't change a lot but defo fucks with conservative me.

Loving the new design of safari doe

Just downloaded. Call forwarding to the computer isnt working right for me (not a huge deal)

Also pretty much instantly switched back from Chrome to Safari, Chrome was causing problems for me with certain websites.

I like it overall but taking away the bookmark bar in safari is annoying me, I know, I shouldn't use safari, but I really like it...

Handoff working well now for just about everything, just needed to sign out and back into icloud on my computer.

However is handoff supposed to work with messages? It takes me to that conversation, but not to what im actually typing like with a started email. Doesnt really matter cuz i dont think id ever use it, just wondering

Safari is a vastly superior browser 95% of the time, it's fast, clean and uses the exact same shortcuts/gestures as the rest of the OS and you will dramatically increase battery life over Chrome or FF.

I like it so far. I'm mostly stoked because it fixed my WiFi connect issues, with mavericks it would take 30 seconds or more to connect after being asleep and now it's basically connected as soon as I type my password.

Sweet! thanks, that's what I get for just reading a Cnet article about the changes instead of poking around in settings, the article was like "favorites bar is gone forever." Should have known better than to trust those guys though.

I'm liking it so far. My black screen after waking from sleep hasn't happened yet so fingers crossed that its fixed.

I think most of it is pretty nice but the general design doesn't accentuate the retina display as much as the older OS's did. It's not as visually stunning, instead it's back to the cartoonish iOS

supposed to be the exact opposite... oh well...

Yup iOS 8.1 fixed this. The iOS update is really what brings out the best stuff in Yosemite if you ask me. Texts/calls on the computer is pretty cool but I haven't gotten to use handoff yet. Really loving the new Safari though...basically switched right out of Chrome since updating.

The future is in a cross-over(mobile-stationary) single stage OS that allows access to all files regardless of device. Cloud based "accounts" per say.

Tempted to install it on my desktop right now too, support is already out for hackintoshes. Hmmmm

Still operating on Snow Leopard (10.6.8) and wondering wether or not it is worth it to finally upgrade. My specs are a 2010 MBP 17" 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8gb RAM. Can anyone give me some input?

I would highly recommend upgrading your laptop to at least mavericks, they've added some updates that help with battery and make everything snapier overall. SL is very outdated my dude, the upgrades are free haha.

I know it's pretty outdated. I remember the first update after snow leopard cost money though so that's why I never upgraded at first. I have finally gotten back in touch with all of this so I figured I would considering upgrading. Do you think it is too soon to upgrade to yosemite based on software support on the new OS?

I mean, we updated all of our computers at work immediately, unless you're using fcp7 you'll be okay.

I literally updated JUST so I could use handoff to send photos from my phone to my computer. Turns out I need a newer version of bluetooth for it to work. Luckily I still have an autoimport with lightroom through icloud........

Really like the changes though. Much faster, smoother, cleaner and my hacked adobe stuff still works after a simple java update! Safari is great too.

I despise the new finder icon, though, and it's impossible to remove it from the dock.

same but i have a 2010 intel cor 2 duo, 4gb ram. Mavdicks wasn't exactly speed enhancing on this.

i just downloaded it and it wasn't as shitty as i expected it to be yet. i like the look, but im kind of mad when i downloaded it it didn't get rid of the numerous internet viruses that have squirmed their way into my fucking computer.

Apple isn't going to solve the crap you picked up when fapping to black amputee toilet hardware handjob porn.

Still on the fence about upgrading from mavericks, I usually skip out on new apple stuff until they release the first update on it.

My computer has been running slow though and I've been thinking about formatting the drive and doing a clean install and getting my stuff back via time machine. Thoughts?/will that work?

If I do a clean install, will I be able to get my apps from my time machine backup?

if you have a very large iTunes library you should consider yourself lucky...

did they fuck with iTunes even more this time? or is it not a part of the update? if they could even just give me the vertical column browser back i would be much happier

What's happened to iTunes???? My music library is roughly 92 gb's and 9,000ish songs.

Just downloaded

Pros

Spotlight

Safari layout

Flatness

Seems to me that all is running smoother

font

Cons

Trash Sound

Itunes sidebar missing

Cartoony icons

FCP doesn't work

I'm sure that theres much more but I just haven't discovered it. Overall I like it, but I hope the make some minor fixes. I guess I'll just have to stick with the icons (I've hated the cartoons since IOS7 came out).

I downloaded some apps like better snap tool and airmail 2.0 to help make my workspace easier to use.

well my biggest problem is that it is designed for people who have full albums. if you have a ton of different artists with only a few songs from each it gets really disorganized. the whole thing at the top with songs albums artists and the different views becomes a hassle. the search ends up taking you to those weird cover view modes. in general they've added a lot of useless features to a once well organized app.

another thing thats been an issue for a while, and I'm not sure if they fixed yet or not, is every time you make a change to your library, even if it is just changing the tag to one song, iTunes rewrites its entire library file. not as much of an issue with my new retina, but adding even a couple songs on my old macbook was at least a ten minute process.

as i said though, biggest thing, although it may seem minor, i want my column browser to look like this

733470.png

i don't need all of that horizontal room to see the date added, file type, file size, etc. you can't view as many artists genres albums or songs with out scrolling.

theres probably a few other things I'm not thinking of as well. I've tried a couple other music apps, they did run faster a lot of times, but they were normally even worse in terms of organization. on top of that if i change apps, i loose all the tags to my songs in lossless format. so i just sit here waiting for a better solution.

weird...it didn't post the first pic. that picture was the picture of how it is now

this is what it used to be like, and how i want it to be

Still on 10.6.8 on my machine too. It's a 2010 Mbp 13" core 2 duo with 4gb ram. Mavericks didn't seem to speed up these machines much, and from what I've seen and heard they take longer to start up and such. I assuming Yosemite only asks for more power?
