Ordering ON3P skis to canada

hey, sorry if this thread is in the wrong spot.

starting work in canada for the season and i'm looking to buy some ON3Ps. does anyone have any experience / know the best way to get ON3P skis (or any skis from the US) sent here?

Ive heard that couriers can charge you ridiculous fees when they rock up at your door with the package and if you don't pay they hold it at the border until you do?

was hoping i could get a pro deal in town but it seems like ON3P don't have any stockists in whistler...

I heard about a loophole involving traveling to a town a few hours west of vancouver that happens to be on both sides of the border, get them mailed to a PO box there and pick them up... seems pretty extreme and dodgy though especially for a large box.

any help is greatly appreciated. cheers

ON3p is made in the US so there is no duty due to NAFTA. Also, duty can not be charged on downhill skis coming into Canada from the US no matter where they are made. They will try and charge you but refuse to pay it and contact them. It is a written rule but I am too lazy to find the link. Funny enough, cross country skis are subject to duty if they are not made in the USA.

Also, Fresh Skis in Calgary sells ON3P

cheers everyone

sounds good but why would that be? skis are basically just a consumer product like t-shirts etc aren't they?

ill check out fresh skis too

Because they list things that are specifically exempt from duty and downhill skis are there. Not sure why.

I would just order them from the on3pskis.com website and include your Canadian address. They will get there.

Make sure they ship them Via USPost. If they send via UPS or Fedex they charge you brokerage fees. It has nothing to do with NAFTA and everything to do with the ways the courier companies charge people. No courier = no extra charge

There is places to ship in blaine which is like an 3 and a half hours from whistler that you can ship for free and pick it up yourself

USPS or US Postal service is just that, a postal service. They are not a courier like UPS or Fedex. Instead of going through a broker at the border (which a courier will ding you for) the package would then be passed on to Canada Post and delivered to you. No brokerage cost which means no extra fees.

Best thing to do is try and speak with someone in person at ON3P. MAKE SURE they send via regular mail via US Postal Service and Not UPS/fedex.

This also means you have a name and contact info of someone if they screw up and dont send it the way you requested. You could then as them to refund you any brokerage costs they try to pass on to you if they were to have screwed up and sent ups/fedex.

makes sense, thanks for your help

ON3P ships FedEx Express International to Canada. Not only is it fast (normally 2-3 days), but FedEx Brokerage Fees are already included in the price (which ON3P covers at about $65-80 USD per pair shipped). USPS costs us around $60/pair and usually takes 5-9 days.
http://www.fedex.com/ca_english/international/customsservices/

"When you ship using FedEx Express services, EXPRESSCLEAR® customs brokerage is included."

There is no duty on skis coming in from the US. If you are charged a duty, email ON3P and we will send you an official letter stating everything you need to submit and have the duty fee waived (it's happened a few times). You will pay a tax on your skis, which varies by Province.

Tax wise, we may or may not ;) list the replacement cost of your skis instead of the purchase price which may or may not lower the taxes you pay on the import.

All that said - we do have some great dealers in Canada, including The Skiers Sport Shop & Fresh, who stock many popular models & are definitely willing to ship. Give them a call and if they don't have what you need, let us know.
