Yeah, snoqualmie does have a better park, overall thats true. But I just dont enjoy skiing there when I go. Its always short runs, lots of people and terrible conditions. I taught there a few years ago, and we did have some powder days, but every single time I got a lunch break to ski I would think; "Man, I wish I was at Stevens, its probably so much better up there..."
So why did I choose Stevens? Because conditions are usually better than down south. More snowfall = more and better features (if the park crew only DID something with it). More people but also more terrain. Less people in the park, definently. More BC areas (sure alpental is good, but Stevens has like 3 different ridges you can hike and ski, and less people use them). On the whole, snoqualmie also lacks the diverse terrain. Take central. Its a huge ridge with a steep slope. Then its flat. Its really not a great area for a park, because there are no natural rollers or knobs to make kickers and hips on. It all has to be constructed. Plus, lose your speed near the bottom and you are seriously fucked for the rest of the park. West has the constant slope, but again, all that stuff must be built there, there are no natural contours for jumps.
Plus, Stevens pass has trees. Hooray for trees when its a whiteout!
So yeah, Stevens Pass might have a sucky park and derelict park crews, but on the whole its just a better place to ski. Besides, I dont want to ride park all day, and when I want some different terrain, what does Snoqualmie have for that in comparison to what Stevens Pass can provide?
