I'd much rather have the locals open later and have a good snow season, then have what had seemed to be a promising season at the start but ended up being shit for snow.
I'm gonna say early December for the locals.
they open "early" every year. the 25th is just american thanksgiving and so they advertise being open by then so that people will book their vacations in whis. every year it opens before that. this yr its nov 3
god, i can only hope that we have enough snow to open nov 3. that would be sooooo amazing. i dont think it's ever opened that early in my life. normally it opens on or around my bday (nov 18). best present ever!!
Whistler opened exactly on November 3rd in 2007. The peak chair opened the 17th and I skied ARGs my first day of the year (I was caught off-guard by the early opening and couldn't make it up). The lifty had never seen ARGs before and it blew his mind. It was -15 and sunny and there was a foot of fresh pow. It was un-fucking-believable.
That story just makes me feel all stoked and nice inside. Such good memories.
I'm gonna guess it'll open for the weekend of the 13th. Whistler always opens earlier than the date they say they will.
Looks pretty good. Freezing levels fluctuating around 1300-1600 metres, maybe 40-70cm of snow in the next 6 days? I don't think we'll make a Nov 6th opening, but if this continues maybe a Nov 13th or 20th could be in the cards. Pray for more precip and low temps people!
Confused. The webcam timelapse from today shows that a ton of people were skiing and boarding today and the lifts were moving up at Whistler. It also showed that they are blowing snow.
