Online Avalanche Course

Here is an official avalanche course to help you gain awareness

this doesn't mean that after doing this you'll be set to do backcountry, but it's a good start and you'll know a little bit more about why it's not so smart to go into the backcountry without any proper knowledge or gear.
This stuff is trustworthy, Hopefully this will get stickied because often threads are posted on avalanche safety but they're not always accurate and/or incomplete

This is great man, seriously.

My first days out this year was with some friends and we hiked some mountain (where we probably shouldn't have), and as some of them were getting to the top area to start the way down, an avalanche started and hit one of my friends. Avalanche wasn't huge and he was okay but still, never thought it was going to happen then.

We definitively decided to take the course after that and this is a good start!.

Here are the Avy Snacks from the Online Avalanche Course put together. Each is only a minute or two long so take the time to watch them all.
Remember, these are informative video's only and should not be used as a substitute to an avalanche course.

This is a good source of info, good post. I definitely think that it should be warned that this doesn't replace taking an Avi Awareness course, but a really good start point. +k

Good info source and the right idea, but a real life course actually showing you everything you need to know is definitely the right place to go.

I definitely agree that this is only a starting point and not a substitute to a real AST 1 or AST 2 avalanche course, I stated so in my last comment and should have made it especially clear in the original thread, but I absolutely agree, nevertheless, it's good to get a head-start and this is the right place to do so.

Bumping, sorry for the double post ^ and for making this thread so persistent. I still think this thread should be stickied

threads for later. thanks for posting this, i was initially planning on doing some bc this year and this is some great stuff to know!

As long as people don't forget to take an avy course like the AST1 (avalanche safety training level 1). This is no substitute as long as everyone remembers that.

This would have made me piss my pants in fear and then I'd be the happiest person. All within 10 seconds!
