One ski ejected today on Tyrolia Attack 14s - wtf happened?

I have multiple pairs of attaaks and pivots. Attaaks are great it’s all about adjustment/maintenance and of course having them set for the right bsl OP ?

theyre attacks... you'll get used to it till you buy pivots

yeah, a lot of people who suggest attacks are skiing like mellow ass all mountain - theyre probably fine for that but there is a good reason most skiers doing somewhat gnarly stunts are on pivots or even sth or jesters. would recomend attacks even less for park lol

Who's gonna tell him about Sam Kuch and Cole Richardson?

Attack first gen = good

Attack2 they changed the toe piece. Almost nothing at the front lip to grab and hold the toe lug. This issue is amplified when the ski is at max flex.

Know multiple shops that have stopped caring attacks because of it. But most definitely they need the AFD adjusting regular is what I have seen when people have problems.

I did notice that on the attack2s. There seriously is like no lip. It’s like a millimeter of grip

lol I saw that the other day and I’m buying pivots like next week for these skis

Things to check before cranking dins:

- forward pressure

- afd/ toe height depending on binding

- boot soles (if you drag your feet you will wear the sole out)

If you don’t know what you are doing, bring them to a shop. Make sure there is no snow on your toe or heel. If it has only happened once, keep skiing. If it’s a consistent issue, maybe your binding is saving your leg.

Bump.

I have two pairs of attacks with the same issue. Tried two boots - lupos & kryptons (with afd height & forward pressure correct) Both sets of attacks had same binding issues with my afd. The binding wiggles up and down while skating or when you Ollie. I've had them just blow off my feet while skiing crud. Or just fall the fuck off when I land tiny side hits.

I have had several prereleases with this binding. I took them to the shop twice, and all adjustments look correct to the tech. I'd clear the snow... Switch skis... Not matter what I do, I can't keep this fucking binding on my goddamn feet.

I am over it. Seems like it works for lots of people, guess I'm not one of them.

The afd height cannot be correct if the boot has play up and down when clicked in. Can you walk us through the adjustment process you do?

The bold type. What does that mean?

I was just ripping groomers today hitting small stuff and did a normal jump with a normal amount of air, as soon as I landed my left ski popped out forwards, and flew back and smacked me in the thigh.

i skied off and bailed on one ski wondering wtf happened?

Both my heels were still clicked up on both skis, but this honestly scared the fuck out of me. That simply can’t happen to me at certain places I ski.

so what happened? DINS to low? 5,9 - 155lb riding at 8 1/2 din, but I need to raise it as that’s early season.

worried that this will happen in a spot that will seriously fuck me up if it happens again

It doesn’t make sense that DIN was the issue here tho - I can confidently weight on my nose for small nose presses and stuff and have never popped out on one of those

The answer is that you just suck at skiing..... Get better or something

grab your boots and click them in. on the back part of your boot/liner (their might be a loop on the liner) pull back towards the tail of the ski and up slightly. as if you were doing a wheelie when skiing. check to see if the gap between your afd and boot is large enough to slide a business card into. adjust until the business card can only just slide in and out with resistance.

Aww. You're a fixer. Thanks, buddy.

I maxed out the toe height, and still had a gap.

3 certified techs and the shop owner couldn't figure it out. I know how to adjust toe height. My post was more of a vent than anything else.

So the binding was out of adjustment? Seems that's what you are saying.

Nope. Faulty AFD. The local Tyrolia rep said he's had to warranty a handful of these for the same reason in the past. This pair (brand new, skied twice) is getting new AFDs

Seeing as how this is the 2nd set of Attacks I've had to warranty for the very same reason, I will no longer use these bindings.

Faulty in what way? I assume toe, but you know how assuming goes.

Please explain for us.

I've seen the springs break in the toe AFD plate, but that has noting to do with height adjustment.

The mechanism that keeps the toe height in place was self adjusting (like others have said) you need to check toe height regularly with these

Thanks. Yes that's a thing with those. One can place some blue loctite on the threads.

Even then, I like to scribe the binding where it is set. Then one checks each day. If it's moved from the mark, adjust back.

Yea, it's kinda shitty, but can be dealt with. That issue really needs addressing.

As a diehard Tyrolia attack16 enjoyer and a pivot18 propaganda disbeliever, i can say that Lemuel knows whats up.

Always check if theres snow under your boot, attack toe piece cant cope with snow, had this problem few times myself.

Boot soles were the main problem point for me when i had toe eject problem.

Rode FullTilts for 4 season and Head trashers for 3 and had both of their front soles wear so much that even if i had forward pressure and toe correctly set up, no snow under my boot and DIN set to 12-14, they still released from front when landing too much backseat. Both of these old boots are copletely chewed noodels at that point anyway.

Tried different boot and didnt have toe eject anymore. You can buy new soles if your boot has that option.

Or if you dont want to buy new soles for 40-50e(cost for head trasher soles), i took toe sole off from my boots, cut piece of plastic that would go between my boot and removable sole, screw everything tight and filed the toe sole flat. Extra plastic gave the toe that 0.5-1mm which had been worn away and works fine now.

Bought my attack16 used for 50e and Jiberish crewneck. Those were on 2 different skis (+1 pair before i had them) and outlived both of my boots. Pay 250-300e, take your pivot18s keep them at din8 and get them shoved into your bum daily, ill keep my attacks. (CAST system looks fire tho, prob have to get pair for next season and get rid of my atomic trackers)

Also reminder for everyone to loosen your dins to MIN for summer so they dont die out. Forgot to loosen my old GS ski bindings and after being stored for 8+ years with dins almost maxed they are fully dead now.
