The AK has nice sidecut, it'll still carve at long lengths, plus you're a big guy, you can muscle them around...just sack up and get the 189, stop thinking about it so much, your shop guy is wrong.

i ended up gettin the 179 tho, thought it'd be more versitile and overall more fun to ski.

i thought about it and realize this would be more fun, cuz its so wide, i dont need another 10cm of length for flotation, the width'll do. for example, look at the lizzie's, call every one else on here a major pussy then cuz they only come in a 172, and ur callin me a pussy for bein on a 179, im sorry, but u have to tell alot of other people they are pussies as well if ur callin me one.

Noooo, Lizzie is a completely different design, and no..I wouldn't recommend the Lizzie to someone who is as heavy as you...and the extra length isn't for floatation, it's for stability on large landings, and trust me...you're going to regret getting the 179 on your first huge powder day, cause you're going to overpower it. Your height has nothing to do with choosing a ski size, it's how much you weigh that gives you the ability to flex a ski and make it work like it was intended to work, and you are heavy, so you will need a larger size to compensate for the soft flex of a ski like the AK Enemy.
 
get the 189, it will make you a better skier riding them, also i just bought 185 scratch bc and i am 5'9" becuase i will grow more and i bet you will to, go with the 189
