well, youall year about that new trade aggrement thing they have in the making?

here is a situation:

currently- in your country there is a factory that makes some form of metal (it doesn;t mtter really what it is just that they make something)

now, there is another country that makes that same thing, for cheaper. They ate able to make it cheaper because they are a bid company and they can do whatever they want... the way it is now, your country, would put a tax on the cheaper imported item to make the price equal. that way that countrie's economy doesn't get cheated out by some bigger one and the local companies product is still bought by the countries citizens. (you have to understan that the local company would be producing the item as cheap as possible but because they are smaller, it is still not as cheap as the bigger company can produce it. Also that this company is basically the only thing supporting the countries economy at all. Generally speeking this applies to poor countries)

so with this new trade agreement, it would make it very hard for other countries to tax imported products, tharefore everyone buys the US products instead, thus putting that countries economy to shit, making living conditions worse for it's citizens.

and at the same time, I would prusume, the us would continue to tax goods that are imported here (the whole thing that we are making it hard to do in other countries) becase we are greedy heartless bastards.

well couldn't the people buy things cheaper and then end up being better off, you say? well no because that is just not how it works out. By not suppoering their own countires economy, they themselves start to make even less money than the small amount they happen to make now and the whole thing just goes down the drain.

well you should know all the facts before you go shittin on the us. Here in canada the problem with terriffs is much worse. in canada it is cheaper to deal with other countries then it is interprovincially. in canada you have to use the services in your own province. there was a case like this in quebec (i think?) a while ago where a quebec contractor hired an ontairo company to do some paving for a contract they had. then when the govenrment found out they made the company repave the contracted area using a local company. and with the implementationof gatt and nafta but the remaining interprovincial barriors it made it cheeper to go to other countries then in canada. its one of canadas biggest trading problems.

I suppose if a countries economy gets so bad it would just shutdown and let the us takeover, but then the us would be even more in debt.

I haven't bothered to do the math and beleve me I won't, but I wouldn't be to supprises that if the us actually payed off it's debt we would become a 3rd world country. so basically the only reason we are 1st world is that we don't pay debts...

Probably not because American goods are more expensive in other countries because the cost of producing products here where money is worth alot more than these third world countries in conversion rates would make our products unattianable and certainly not cheaper than something they could produce locally. I’m not sure if you realize that we are currently in a battle against a recession. We need to keep as much American money inside of our boarders and keep as many of us employed as possible. I’m sorry if you can’t understand or grasp that concept. It is how you help boost the economy. Maybe just because you would have preferred to see Gore win the last election and prefer the concept of his trade policy. Think about it though, if your country is having a hard time making ends meet does it make sense to spend less money on a product if that less money isn’t going to be circulating around within your country? Or where you spend slightly more but sooner or later that money will come back to your company? A much larger portion of money will return to you if it is spent within your country then sending it outside of your boarders. The government realizes that the company owners and managers wouldn’t, more then likely, look that far ahead and impose tariffs on imported goods to encourage that system to boost a weak economy. Please tell me you can understand that.

that’s very humorous there. You seem to think that a country can be the superpower forever. I seriously hope you don't believe that. the US has around 275 million people out of 6.4 billion or something like that. Most of the rest of the 6.1 billion would love to have their country be the international superpower. The only thing you should truly concern yourself with (based on my very over assumptious interpretation of your last post) is that we are on top when you go under. At that point in time, your time on earth is over and your concerns with this world have past. So asking if we will be on top another sixty years or so should be a fairly safe conclusion to draw.
