ON3P WORST TOPSHEET CONTEST 2011

MS Paint and Google are your two best friends, then just randomly think weird stuff that has no relation to each other and the story begins..

If you are using a picture from the internet you are probably breaking all sorts of international copyright laws, and thus your design will be disqualified.

You also can't fix stupid.

you guys are all going in the wrong direction. unicorn topsheets are sick, i would legitimately buy a ski if it had unicorn graphics on it

It has been.

Many artists draw from various previous works and existing images or artwork for their compilations. The legality explaining what types of images you can use and not use is... complex. I'm in no way an expert, but unique creations done by you with a graphics program are your own creation, and are the easiest way to avoid any trouble.

If you do know copyright laws concerning types of images and what would be considered fair use for this case, do chime in.

Wow... I didn't know that until now...

You pointing that out made me Google 'cartoon grizzly bear' and look what you find...

I had A LOT more respect for that design when I thought it was drawn by the user (but the poor quality photoshop job is really obvious now that I look at it), really disappointing to find out that it isn't as original of a design as I thought it was...

Just did another Google search for 'rainbow background'... Because I wanted to see if the background was at least somewhat original, but nope.

chad.mckenna (Creator of the Grizzlycorn design) IMO you should thank the artists who created these:

Not trying to be a too much of a hater, the Grizzlycorn concept was very funny, but I feel like the artists who created those deserve some thanks from you...

Now to be more on topic... I gotta say this guy has a great, awful design.

I would be proud to ski on those!

Thanks ON3P for holding this contest last year, and continuing it to this year, I look forward to making another ugly design in hopes of acquiring another pair of awesome ON3P skis!

Anyways, this should be a fun contest.

Good luck to everyone!

Remember that you can use any medium if you are able to photograph it and stitch it together. This is how most of our graphics are done.

FUCK! I was working on a narwhal design. Whatever, I'm still going to do it. I applaud you for your choice on animal.

Ha, thanks. It took me 4 hours or so.
Oh and a question for on3p. I went to copyright free sites to get all of my images (I made sure I had the rights to use them) except for the long board and ET. Is ET copyrighted? Or is he OK to use. What if I alter his face with sunglasses or something? Oh and I can probably find a different long board if I need to.

ET is owned by Universal Pictures or whoever owns the rights to the franchise now. Even if the photos are free, the rights to use the character itself is owned by some corporation. Then again there are laws about about fair use and parodies...
I used free photos from stock photography websites with the appropriate rights last year and I'm pretty sure that got my entry disqualified - it might be too big a risk for ON3P to bother with. Any thoughts ON3P?

My understanding is that as long as an image is edited beyond a certain point of recognition it is usable. Don't hold me to that but that is how all of our art teachers tell us to handle it.

We really dont like being sued, so please stick to the rules?

You can edit and change things, not too late yet! Also, to those saying its impossible to do without violating copyrights:

^Mike won a set of skis for this design last year. We got emails from some people who spoke to how offensive this is (which I kind of disagree with personally, but whatever), so it couldnt make it to production... but I think its beautiful.

Some great entries so far, KEEP IT UP!
