ON3P Secret Sauce Open

on3p just posted this on facebook:

"Hey everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that we unfortunately have to delay the launch of the ON3P Secret Sauce Open for a week or so, as we're currently in the midst of getting official rules developed so Canadians can enter as well.

On behalf of all of us here at Newschoolers, thanks for your patience, our sincerest apologies for the delay, and be sure to keep practicing playing Shredsauce in preparation for the contest!

Thanks! "

SS with a PS3 controller is horrible, rails are simply impossible, I think you riding is better in that aspect, but I still love SS, it's just frustrating.

After waiting all day to announce it, we're sorry to announce that the ON3P / Shredsauce "Secret Sauce Open" will not be starting today. Unfortunately, there was a delay with Newschoolers.com's legal staff, launching today would mean that we would have to sacrifice allowing our friends up north (Canadians, not Washington) from entering, which just isn't cool.

The word from Newschoolers' Jeff Schmuck:

"Hey everyone,

Stay tuned for details, we're sincerely sorry for the delay.

you definitely need to tweak the course. And before everyone says "you are just bad at shreadsauce" I agree that all the features are hitable, but it could be much smoother. Also filming a complete line in a single take perfectly (if thats what the contest is) is going to be really difficult if the course is really inconstant., Here are my complaints/recommendations:

First set of features:

-Trying to disaster on the middle rail can be really inconsistent. A tiny variation in your pop timing can be the difference between getting the disaster and not popping at all (if you pop slightly too early or slightly too late)

-If you want to hit the full flat down, you need to go kind of slow to make it smooth, otherwise its awkward. However if you do go slow, you knuckle.

-On the down rail, unless you boost almost to the end, you knuckle slightly almost every time.

-on the DFD, in order to hit the whole thing you need to go pretty slow, and again if you do this you knuckle

Second set of features:

-The Closeouts are pretty much prime.

-The cannon shoots you out too far, maybe move it farther back? You can do it if you go really slow, but it just doesn't feel natural.

-If you want to only hit the down box its really awkward because it dips down suddenly. Not smooth at all.

-I haven't hit the box all the way to the right yet so I can't comment

Cannons:

-The only problem is the middle cannon, it should be raised just a little more.

Jumps:

-All of the jumps are pretty much fine but I still have a few suggestions

-All of the jumps should be lowered into the ground so there is no white before the paint lines start. Otherwise the transition can be sketchy

-There is something about the way the first jump is angled where it makes certain spins awkward, maybe decrease the angle a little bit?

That is all I have for now.

The jumps need some serious work. They're big to the point of making tricks look really unrealistic and sketchy. Something like the normal shredsauce course would be better IMO. Rails are alright.

i agree with most of that^

but leave the middle cannon alone its one of my favorite feature and works fine

honestly most of the times custom levels are really sketchy because of the steepness. What makes the original level so good is the mellow slope, because it makes it easy to keep control between features and transitions are all way less harsh.

Jumps need some serious work, the speed needed for them makes the takeoffs either glitch at the bottom of tranny, not be able to do tricks or launch huge. if you go huge the landings glitch. Top rails need an overhaul as mentioned above, second tier is money

all the jumps and lips for rails need to go from flat to jump because right now they all start on the basic slope and the tranny is to fast also everything mentioned above is on point except the middle canon should not be changed and jumps should be much more like the original level

It's slopestyle, top to bottom. I'll talk to malcolm about fixing glitchyness, hard for me to gauge because I haven't experienced half the problems that everyone else has. I've never had a problem with the jumps, they are large and floaty so I spin slower instead of just gripping and ripping future spins. Either way, although we weren't planning on it, we have some time now, so changes will be made to make it run smoother!

It's a video contest, it's just not live! one run, top to bottom, but it's your best run, so you can try at it for as long as you've got time for. Just not editing. Perhaps that's where the confusion is?

That's why we want to make sure the course is dialed for you all.

maybe something its like a real slopestyle sesh where you sign onto a map of shredsauce thats intended for slopestlye.

you would get 4 or whatever runs to practice meaning runs would be counted making it so your wouldn' t be allowed more practice and you would go straight into heats after practice.

heats could be best of 3 or three runs. once finished best run will be submited to the judge/whoever

Thanks for the suggestion, but we've already got rules squared away! Just waiting for NS's legal team to allow us to include people from outside the US. Details will be released the day the contest starts.

I've been able to put together sick top to bottom runs the entire time during the building process, I can't really say too much about that first feature as far as knuckling with the DFD and down rail because the disaster is the sickest feature and pretty much all I hit haha. As far as the closeout section goes, there is no point in hitting JUST the down box. The cannon over the close out I didn't get much time to prepare, but the speed I had for it was usually 12-13kmh which needs to be a little faster because of the wall ride where it was, that was a really recent addition. The cannon rails have always been perfect for me at about 17kmh. The first jump's speed is right around 28kmh second is around 30 and the last is about 32-34.

I know a lot of you arent stoked that it isn't flowy and you can't just use natural speed into all the features but with a constant slope it would be near impossible to make that. Plus it really tests your mastery of the game. Trust me it takes some time to get used to all the features and the course itself but it's definitely all possible if you take your time.

Is anyone else getting almost unplayable lag? Particularly up the top? Hope Malcom fixes this issue, a dope coarse otherwise!

On the standard slope it's impossible for sure.

But I mean I may happen to have a full course built including all ON3P Branding with a mellow slope and natural speed throughout...

i still dont like the drop on the landing for the first feature just make it a regular landing or release the code for us to edit and then you can choose which one is best

We're running the contest with Newschoolers, that's their call! We were only just informed today that NS didn't have everything cleared for Canada, so we really have no idea how their side of the system works!

i think it would have been cool if there had been a first stage to the contest where everyone built a map and then we would vote on which map to ride and there would be prizes for best map and then we would use the best map in the second part of the contest where we would ride it that way we know that the map is perfect and works well.

SHOULD HAVE HAD A CONTEST ON WHO COULD HAVE BUILT THE BEST COURSE AND THEN USED THAT COURSE FOR THE NEXT CONTEST

Wow cry some more. I don't even plan on hitting any of the features like you normally would so fuckoff with the inconsistent speed. If you really believe ON3P will give you a pair of skis because you threw some l33t 'everybody can do' disaster typeof trick, you better give up right now because my run will fuck you up ;)

No shit, this is what everyone will be doing.

The reason people are butthurt is that the jumps are way too big, and some of the rails are so poorly set up.
