Wanting to find out the butter and press ability of the kartel 98.

I am 65 kg, 1.71m tall. have demo'd the al dente and k2 102 shreditor.

Will the 176 Kartel butter close to as good as these? due to its rocker although i've heard its stiffer then either of the skis listed above.

Does the kartel's flex feel stiff and not playful, I ride 174 ar7's and cant crush pow or press or butter them, help me out

Flex wise, al dente and shred 102 will be softer than ON3P. But to be able to butter, you don't always have to rely on flex. Sometimes you can butter off the "shape" of the ski rather than the flex. So depending on your style, buttering/presses may come easier or more difficult on the ON3P. But you won't know until you try them out and figure out how you butter if guess.

As for the ar7, those are a stiff ski. Don't worry if you can't butter as easy on those.

If the kartel is similar to the jmo you won't have any issues. Some say they are mid stiff but the rocker is huge so it's really easy to get onto to butter. It will feel a little diffent to the two skis you posted as the rocker is higher rather then shallow and long so you nee to pop into the butter a little more then just sliding into it. But they are more lively ten those 2 skis so once you get the hang of it you will have much more pop from your butters.

Buttering has much more to do with the ability/strength/commitment of a skier than the actual ski itself.

I'm a really similar height and weight to you and I also had problem buttering and fully flexing my AR7's. I found the issue was not the stiffness of the ski but it was my boots. They were to big so when I put all my pressure forward into the tongues of the boots my heel would lift a lot and so I would lose most of the pressure which meant it is hard to flex the ski properly.

I changed to a smaller stiffer pair of boots and it's helped a huge amount. I can now butter my AR7's pretty easily because my heel doesn't lift as much so I can apply way more pressure to the tips and tails of the ski.

Check and see if your boots fit properly before buying other skis. Also build muscle because of your scrawny and have no muscles you won't be able to butter no matter how soft the skis are.

Yeah that's exactly what I did, got a pair of three piece boots that helped a whole heap, can still nose butter lips rollers etc on my skis just looking for an all mountain playfull ski, so hearing that the rocker of the kartel helps a lot with being playfull I think I've found my ski, cheers !

I agree. It's more of HOW you butter rather than WHAT you butter with.

True. I don't think many people realize how strong these guys are and how much weight/commitment they throw into the trick

Exactly. My favorite ski to butter on was my ar7s which also were my stiffest.
