ON3P Jeronimos or custom 333's

somethin is goin on with the 333 guy. my brother ordered a pair and was talking to him pretty frequently a few weeks ago and has recently tried multiple times to contact the 333 guy with no response. hes probably just really busy but its kinda shady
 
Yah same thing happened to me. I'm guessing he got tied up in something. If i don't get mine soon, I'm screwed because shops are way behind on mounting bindings.
 
michael, the 333 guy, seems like a good guy, but somewhere i heard he is totaly swamped with orders and not accepting new orders for a little while

I mean come on, every time you send a cliff you have something to yell. But seriously, you'll be lucky to get your 333 order done this season, I have a feeling the guy won't be able to produce ~1/2 of what has been ordered.

ON3P seems like a very legit company.
 
Like Rowen I am biased, but lets take a step and see what's being done as to HOW your skis are being made.

333: Portable trailer, questionable amount of supplies and power made to make skis that are a one-time design (due to your customizations) and with zero amount of product testing between what's made and what you get in your hands.

ON3P: Full industrial shop with 2 years of ski-making and product testing skis before going to the public. Sure, not customizable, but i beg to see why you would need a ski that they don't make.

Make up your own mind...
 
how many people who ordered 333 skis either:

1) copied dimensions of another ski which a company invested lots of $$$ into R&D

2) threw together some dimensions that look cool, but don't actually know how it will ski

-someone recently posted that his brother pretty much copied the pontoon dimensions with his 333 design. now how fair is that to k2? or to the ghost of mcconkey; the original rump shaker of the rocker revolution
 
Custom 333's

Like someone said, go find an expensive ski you like. Take its specs, and send them to the guy. Once his shop is up and running you'll be in 7th heaven.
 
yep, thats my brother who did that. but couldnt you say that about any ski or really just about everything in life? whenever a new idea comes about it is surely going to be copied by other companies in the same market. sure, it might not be fair but thats reality for ya and its just how shit works
 
Like no other companies have copied the concept of the Pontoon or built a ski with nearly identical specs as the Hellbents...
 
of course in any industry, companies copy/borrow/steal/beg/lease/buy other companys' ideas. overall, it usually pushes innovation, and the entire industry is able to continually push the envelope instead of pushing the same-old same-old.

my point is that there is a difference between companies blending existing technologies with a twist of their own to make a new product, versus someone on NS ordering a 333 ski to simply produce an exact copy of an existing K2 or Armada or whathaveyou's existing ski for a cheaper price.

armada's catalog page for the ARG used to straight-up say on it, thanks mcconkey for opening our eyes.
 
My thought is you can copy dimensions from an existing ski but there is no way you can replicate the ski in one go. Like others have said in this thread way more gos into building a ski than the dimensions.
 
Correct. 333 gives you a complete flex option as well. Even if Michael tried, I don't think he could directly copy the same ride as another ski. There would be some performance differences because, like somebody else said, so much goes into building a ski.

Personally, I don't think I could flat out copy another ski. I mean with the option to create "your own" ski, I would at least modify it a little.

OP, I think it might come down to time available and when you need your skis. I plan to use 333 some day as well as ON3P but if 333 is already backed up, you might be actually making turns on ON3P first.

333's are interesting, no doubt. It is really amazing that this guy is able to do custom skis to whatever you want for such a price point. But in that custom zone, you really got to know what you want.
I had an expensive car stereo in my previous car, one with more than a million settings for the sub and speakers. More often than not I had the remote in hand when I was driving, messing around with all the settings, just trying to get the most perfect sound. I usually ended up with it sounding worse off and by that time the song was over anyways. Customization is a lot like that, I think. If I was an audiophile, who knew what I was doing, such a deck would have been great for me and I wouldnt ever have to change anything.
You've also got to understand that a lot more goes into a ski besides just the dimensions and flex. Designs like the Pontoon take years to develop and throughly test and tweak. I'm sure if we had a day or two, we could make a ski that was the same size, camber and flex pattern of the pontoon. I would just wager that tested side by side, the Pontoon would be a better ski, because its had the development. Ours would still be a damn fine copy, but I really doubt we would be able to make a ski just off specs that rides as good or better than the original without fine tuning. A lot more goes into construction than you may think.
