Alright, I like many of you read through the "courage crew" thread and was absolutely disgusted.

I was shocked that such insane people roamed the streets. I mean the bloods and crips do business with in, its mainly drug related violence, which is shitty, but at least there is (in most cases) a motive. However, these guys were just out to hurt anyone with a beer in hand or(and as well...) smoking at a hardcore show. Now I know very little about the genre and culture of hardcore music, but I will do the best to explain.(in fact I find the music to be torture on the ears, but hey whatever you like I guess...)

After reading the other thread, I immediately messaged XJacobX, who was getting bombarded throughout the thread for being a member of a straight edge group (or to my interpretation a "we beat the fuck out of drinkers and stoners"). Well I relayed a bunch of messages with him and it turns out he really is a decent guy.

To clear his name, he is totally chill about drinking. In fact his father drinks, but basically its just not for him (which we can all respect). He is straightedge and thats fine, to each his own. You see he started going to a lot of music shows (hardcore) and eventually just became part of a crew because thats how the hardcore sub-culture goes, its just kinda part of the whole thing. But that doesn't mean he is insane like some of the other members and wants to beat the fuck out of anyone he sees with a beer or pot.

Now Im not here to defend the crews, I am here to defend Jacob. He himself told me he is a humble guy who doesn't like fighting. He just doesn't want some drunk asshole spilling beer on him, which would upset any sober person. He isn't out to mess with people, he just doesn't want to be messed with by some drunken moron, and if need be he will fight the guy. I personally think violence is dumb, but hey you gotta see where the guy is coming from. How many times have you had some drunk asshole at the bars or a party try and start shit with you for no apparent reason? Its the same deal, only he is sober and will take a lot less shit than a happy drunk person. He admitted how the crews like FSU are totally insane and that he doesn't dig what they do. Many of you will still not see eye to eye, and don't, but I can at least see where he is coming from and know hes actually a pretty good guy.

But hes still supporting something thats terrible, that like saying (This is going to be an extreme example) Yeah, I'm a nazi but I don't go out of my way to kill Jews, but my buddies do and I don't really mind. Sorry for the harsh example but its just the easiest thing to work with. Being indifferent to the situation doesn't help at all. You can at least distance yourself from it
 
Look I totally agree with you, I just think this guy isn't as bad as we all perceived him to be.

It could be worse...he could be a PLUR kid......
 
the only reason hes trying to seem decent now is because not one person sided with him so he finally realized he actually is a douchebag. used to respect the guy, but labeling yourself as part of some psuedogang to sound tough isnt honorable at all.
 
Not at all I was being pretty straight forward with him when he messaged me, You guys twist everything I write and make it a lot worse then what it really is.

He messaged me being respectful and He got respect.

 
There's a right way and a wrong way to go about things. If you have it in your head, that anyone who intentionally/unintentionally spills beer or blows smoke in your direction is going to get their ass kicked. That's ridiculous, and you need to grow the fuck up. Words get you so much farther than fists. I don't mean you any disrepect whatsoever, but to cop that kind of an attitude in this day and age is beyond comprehension.

If he's not what I think, then why does he participate in such a hateful group of people? Being a member of that group is going to automatically put a certain persona on him. If he doesn't want that persona, then he should quit the crew.

And actually, he should quit the crew for his daughter, if he's such a great person.

 
yep i'm with ash here, mainly on the point about his daugher. not everyone will fight, someone is going to just kill him one day. and that is the most selfish self centered thing to do to his daughter is die. let alone if he doesn't, he is setting a horrible example for her and is basically ignoring his daughter. personally this has not changed my view on him, although i am trying to be nice here. to me he is an immature asshole and needs to grow up and start living his life correctly. he has kids, a house, and wife and is wasting it all.
 
But if he dies his daughter gets a fat check so it's all ok because we all know money is better than a loving father!

, he doesnt just walk up to someone smoking weed, he asks them politely (i hope) to stop, and like i would imagine, most of them, instead of moving which would be effortless, they blow it in his face, so he punches them in the face, i see no problem there. i bet some of you guys have started fights for less

its the five people jumping others that sucks, not gonna argue with that. but from what i understand xjacobx gives them a chance to redeem themsevles aka apoligize or smoke somewhere else, seems like a resonable request...

but its not his business to tell someone to leave. when asking them to leave nicely and they dont or they blow smoke in his face, dont punch them in the face, just call the stupid cops. it isnt his right to beat up someone like that. it really isnt his right to ask them to leave anyways if its a public place. set aside the point that weed is illegal to smoke. but as for drinking. im sure everyone knows they get a little roudy and yes it was your responsibility as to how much you drank but lets be honest, how responsible can you be for your actions when your hammered. if i fell on you drunk and got some beer on you..would i be punched in the face? common now...

idk thats interesting, do we have the right to punch whoever we dam please? prolly not, but i suppose its as good a reason as any, ive seen drunk kids fight over way less

i mean i guess if he got drunk he still wouldnt have the right to punch someone but he wouldn't be responsible for his actions, maybe thats the approach they should take.
 
No. Sorry, no. you don't get to punch someone in the face for that. you don't even get to tell someone who is smoking to stop. they are free to do as they wish, and if you have a problem with it, move.

fighting someone for spilling beer on you? get the fuck out of here man. this is why I want to carry a gun, is I am afraid of nutjobs like this guy. a jacked ex-soldier who is looking for any excuse to beat the shit out of me. if someone spills a beer all over you and doesn't apologize or acts like an asshole, fine. but that is just ridiculous.
 
Nope! thats bullshit. sure, you are free to do what you want Until it infringes on someone elses rights. if they are smoking in a designated area and you are hanging around then theres not much you can say. otherwise you have every right to tell them to fuck off.
 
to clarify, I was talking about smoking at a show. if you are smoking in a nonsmoking area, then yeah people can tell you to stop.

in the adult world you dont use violence to solve your problems.
 
Maybe if you actually read that you would have realized I used that to represent something. I said it was a bad example that people would flip out on because they see nazi and O MY GOD THIS GUYS COMPARING NAZIS TO THIS! And thats exactly what happened, don't jump the gun, read what I wrote.

You never have the right to tell someone to stop smoking. In very few circumstances you do, if your outside, it doesn't matter, move yourself. You don't like it go somewhere else. If you inside in a smaller type space then you can ask them to stop because its bothering you. If they just blow smoke in your face you can start yelling or something, but are you really going to be that immature and punch someone for smoking near you?
 
i think its just as immature to punch some for blowing smoke in your face after asking them to stop as it is for someone who is politely asked to move to blow smoke in someones face.

and whats the point of bringing up an example if your gonna follow it by saying thats a horrible example
 
Because I knew people were going to flip on it. Its a good example, its just extreme and people weren't gunna read it and just flip out about the nazi part. Its just the first thing that came to mind
 
Perfect example. I couldn't agree more. This guy is just as bad as the worst of these "Courage Crew" tools even if he isn't as active as some of the rest of them. And to the thread creator, I understand what you're trying to do, but I think you're completely missing the point. This guy is one of those assholes that starts shit for no apparent reason, he's just sober when he does it.

not everyone in hardcore is straight edge, a lot of them drink and smoke as much as anyone else. however, all ages hardcore shows/venues will have a policy of no drinking, drugs or fights to allow underage kids to have a good time.

violent straight edge crews are pretty scarce in my opinion. personally I don't like the negative image they can create for straight edge, and I don't know what to think about xJacobx. most straight edge kids are in high school and some in college, and they often sell out after 21 years of age. straight edge isn't a violent movement, but one about changing your life or continuing to avoid the detrimental (for many) distraction of drugs. also it shouldn't be compared to nazism but I think that was cleared up.

many straight edge kids are completely cool with other people and friends who drink or smoke. here, the edge kids are really chill and many are in non-edge bands or have non-edge friends. none of them are really "out there" or angry all the time and whatnot.

it is to be expected that if you go to metal shows or take the Hastings bus, beer will be spilt on you and you will be offered weed. people will offer you wine and alcohol on social occasions.. people smoke outside in the open air and that is usually fine. these things are to be expected and in my opinion there's no reason to be angry about them.

least 6 ft 185.

im pretty small 5'9 175
fsu has changed over the year its more a bunch of scene kids trying to be badasses

your a horrible person. the group you stand for just promotes violence and you can't deny that, you can say some bullshit about how you only wait for people to accidently spill beer on you or smoke near you but your disregarding the point that they came to those concerts to have fun and in no way invited physical violence. even if you specifically dont go out looking for these fights you are part of this gang and therefore you have to take responsibility for their ideals. if we all answered our problems with violence we might as well just shit on years of evolution and maturity of the human race. live and let live.

I would be really interested to see if it was just one of you douches by themselves has a problem with someone that blows smoke in tha face or accidentilly spills beer on you, it would be a much different story.
