On Surface getting so much play...

That pic^^ on the top of the page is a shot of makaio, the kid trying to rip on surface and powfoka for his apparel. So the kid in hand sewn tight pants is trying to clown the guy who rides in Wranglers.

Also, why does Surface bring out the all the 9thward Ohhh G's and other ignorant haters? Are you worried the new blood is a threat to your gangsteristic lifestyle? Therefore a threat to your misplaced identity in life?

OR did your parents just buy you a pair of skis other than Surface and your afraid you might be riding the wrong dick next season, cuz all the indie kids are doing it?

MALONE rides Surface, nuff said about the Stereotype.

Finally, for those who are flat out numb from the neck up, read this again:

There's a lot more to ski design that dimensions. You're forgetting where the sidecut is in relation to the running surface, what sidecuts are being used (read multiple sidecuts splined into a continous sidecut) and where they are used in the effective edge of the ski, (if multipe sidecuts are being used at all) core profile, orientation and weight of reinforecement, the type of reinforcement (fiberglass, carbon fiber, metal, combination). You can have two skis that literally come out of the same mold that ski nothing like each other based on all the other variables I've listed.

This is the best reply in this whole thread.

A bunch of people who are so worried about what everyone else is riding, wearing, saying, doing...if you don't back 9 or Surface fine. Move on, don't waste all day at the computer trying to bag on them, just don't buy their products!

It's simple.

let your skis speak for themselves then, and don't worry about NS' opinion

try all you want, you wont win over hearts with slander

You just supported my point, half this thred is people trying to mock a stereotype. Oh and just don't bring up 9, Surface actually delivered skis this year.

what i was trying to say before with my critcism/hate of surface, is that as much as we want fresh style/clthing blah blahb blah etc. we also want a fresh company with fresh ski consruction ideas -- skis that chagne the way we can ride, that open up diff possibilities. as much as weight, core type, playing with minute differenences in sidecut affect a ski,

overall the shape (dimensions/mold) and the core (weight/flex) affect 80% of how a ski skis. we have 9thward, 4frnt, armada, moment etc.

now that you have your allmtn and pow ski, try to develop some crazy ass technology that no one has ever thought of. be skiings mervin manufacturing. i thought it would be quite logical that given the breath of fresh air of your atypical steeze that maybe you gusy would apply that to your models as well. im just sayin'.

^^^^mervin mfg. didn't come out of the gates with a magnatraction banana board now did they. maybe you just don't know about expenses and how it takes a long time to have enough money to throw into experimental stuff

I'm not a lover, I'm just going to play devils advocate and say no one, at least truly connected to Surface, has said their skis are god-sticks. They are a new company and have a different approach to the personality of skiing, and make a decent stick while they're at it. They're not "better" they're just a "different" company. Skiing is big enough for all of us.

This is just my take on it all. I have no real connection to any company.

Again devils advocate...just because it's a new image and personality that people can buy into and support, while making a pretty good ski too. The proclaimed "artsyness" is more of a joke word with everyone, on both sides of this debate.

As for Thward, they're doing the same type of thing too, new image, new personality, while making a good stick too. I like that. Their image might be more abrasive and rough for some people to digest. Same with Surface, some might not take to it too well either...but that's really all okay too. If we can support each other and everyone's different ideas, there is plenty of enough room for everyone to get their share and have their fun. It's when we start to eat each other alive, with senseless bickering, that's when it gets ugly. Remember, we all freeski because we love it, first and foremost. So let's do that.

well, im stoked on surface becuase im an artist *GASP!* i paint and draw and im currently earning my bachelors in fine art. so a company that make a solid good product AND caters to the things im into is a deffinite plus.

i guess this is the point i have been trying to make!

the more companies and styles in skiing the better for all of us!

after searching around i came to notice that nobody directly involved with surface has ever said anything negative about another company or "hated" on anybodys style.....

the reson i give my hard earned money to surface when i could get other brands for much cheaper is i believe in what they are trying to do for skiing!

no matter where theyre skis are made who rides them and what they wear surface gives kids a company to try something different...

in my opinion thats the worst thing in skiing right now is the lack of diversity rather it be skis clothing tricks styles competetions movie segments the whole way around skiing is pretty close minded! the people at surface opened my eyes and it seems like a lot of others are catching on!

thats why i support them

I think you made other people's point, right? The ski they made wasn't thought up by them, or experimented by them...it was a clone, of another well established company's ski, thought up by a rider of their's at the time and his buddies. They modified it by a centimeter or two and made it a bit more durable, that's it.

You rep for Surface right? I understand you need to back them, but half your posts are sucking their dick, worse than Cosco back in his 9thward days. Calm down a little bit and don't slut yourself out so hard for a company that won't ever cut you a decent check.

how is saying ninthward sucks at business not an assumption? does anyone actually know themselves exactly what happened last season? no. and i know i'm making an assumption about surface but they have barely anything to back up that they aren't a fashion based company. if they start to build up a team of good skiers i'm sure i will think differently but most of my friends can outski all of the surface riders judging by their video footage, which i know doesn't sound legit but unless they happen to be 20x better than their footage shows they aren't anything new or creative to skiing. they are just skiers who have a different fashion sense than the norm.

a ski that is no longer made. that was determined by the big companies not to be worth it. and praxis gets gnar points for making them in his garage.

i guess what i was trying to say is that my criticism is just that, criticism, not hate. its just one man's input. but thats what makes small companies cool, they actually listen to the consumer (many consumers). i'm not saying one, bored, irritated-by-lack-of-snow loudmouth should be able to influence a company, but i felt the NS bandwagon pulling over for surface and didn't see why (did i say i hate bandwagons/groupthink). personally i got some shit clarified and i think the way the surface dudes responded can only make people who actually read thsi thread respect them more.

That's scary, it must be hard for him to breathe with Surface's cock deep in it all the time. I could see if he repped them to try to sell the shit, but wow.

Let's stop talking about proverbial cock sucking all the time. Can we grow up a touch and at least talk normally...without brand loyalty being comparable to fellatio?

there is too much shit in here to delete it.

I wish there was a way where I could just make it so people cannot post in it anymore

It's summer and kids are just venting, the fire will burn itself out. Skiing is fun it's cool to see new and different niches emerge, it's progression.

Thward and Surface are both companies that bring me new ideas and options in skiing with their own personalities and strengths for me to choose to buy into...and for that I am grateful to both, regardless of what they, or I, am wearing. Goodnight everyone.

I am not artsy. I do take art classes though. Read my post above everyone else that can't pick up Matty's kind words.

i don't know about you guys but one great thing i like about freeskiing is that it has its own little subculture. its such a tightly knight community(although this thread seems to indicate otherwise) and i like that fact that everyone dresses the same. i purposely don't dress a stand out or make a fashion statement while skiing because i like identifying with other skiers.

now don't get me wrong, i have no problem with people wanting to stand out from the crowd when skiing but i personally choose not to do that because i like the fact that freeskiers have a specific style.

as for progression of the sport, i think its great, but the reason people hate on things like no poles and tight pants is because they don't think it looks good. myself included. In general, i think skiing with poles and baggy pants just strait up looks cooler than without poles and with tight pants.

there has been PLENTY of progression in freeskiing and there still is. progression for the sake if progression is pointless, there needs to be direction, if you think no poles is more stylie, then don't ski with poles, but don't not ski without poles just because you want to be different

and i was just using poles as an example.

Seriously, shut up. Everyone. Now. I personally like Surface, AND, I personally like Ninthward. So shut the fuck up, no one cares how great or how shitty a company is doing. They arn't doing anything to you.

whoops.

I've been gone for a while and managed to miss little 5 page addition to the thread title. I regret even looking at this thread because honestly, it scares me. Look at this, the hate isn't even making sense anymore. I have no idea what the fuck is going on.

dude i know. I was up in park city and there main pro on the team was talking shit about them. He said they were a week old and the skis already delamend and ripped apart

I was talking to this guy and he said Surfaces Cores are made out of the wood from the cross of Jesus. he had tight pants on so I mean if he said it its gotta be true right?

hi, um how can i make my oakley parachute pants tighter? i heard about this cool original company and everyone on newschoolers.com likes them a lot and are buying their skis next year so they can get creative as fuck.

i want to get creative as fuck too, so i figured my first step should be to slim up my slacks. get me a pair of those skis and maybe a scarf, and it should just happen. right?

also i was just wondering if i could see the original team creative in action a bit, because i acually haven't seen anything so far that stands out. i mean, the pants look great and everything. really. i'd just like something more so i can see what's really so different between my skiing and theirs. i hope they're actually good and stuff...
