On hill attitudes

Just wanted to throw a shout out to everyone who respects people trying new stuff on hil. Today I was working on rails an kept eating it, and nobody laughed at me (lame I know) which helped me finally nail it. I know there will be gapers in park who try shit way out of their league, but if you see someone trying to sack up and throw down, encourage them.

word man, good shout-out. laughing at people getting hurt has been sooo hawt for so long and it fucking pisses me off. have a heart guys, i agree with what was said in the original post so i won't bother regurgitating it.

deff. agree, good vibes=good times

the constant mssuse of gaper is bugging me too.

like how it seems that any one starting out or visiting is automatically classified as a gaper. esp. kids, my friends have been saying gaper kids alot, but, theyre not gapers theyre just beginners.

I hate people who are dicks on the hill. Like yesterday a couple of assholes went by this little kid and sprayed him while he was taking a pee by the trees(he mustve been 9-ish).

I know if I see someone trying something new it gets me pumped to also. And if I can help out I do my best to. Never laugh at anyone but myself. Best way to do it

yes, personally i suck at park because this year is basically my first year trying to progress more in the park. i hate when people laugh, especially cocky snowboarders. no generalization intended, but there are a few of them where i ski, and its just annoying when im trying to improve.

its real sad, cause my bro wants to ski real bad, but the attitudes towards beginners is so bad, that it discourages him from trying. because he thinks everyone will be dicks, because alot of ppl here see rentals and not so good skiing, and assume Gaper and then mess with you

Oh man. I cant stand trying to learn new stuff on the slopes and if you mess up they just laugh at you... Great shout out man

The only people i am really a dick to are serious gapers. on the phone, snaking everyone in the lineup, only to ski around the lip or roll over it and crush it. Im a super dick to those people.

yea for sure. I'm always trying new things and constantly eating it. People for the most part are pretty nice. The only rude people are kids with racing skis who just ride down terrain parks and don't hit anything (talking about Mount Snow). But boarders and skiiers who know what they are doing are pretty respectful. I never laugh at kids because I was once in their shoes and know how it feels.

haha^

but seriously, i have noticed the same thing,

i am in no way shape or form talented in the park (can do rails, and im workin on 3s haha) but it really does help you nail tricks and try new stuff if you dont feel like your bein judged

i get so stoked on the most random shit when i ski. I ride anthems, and i saw someone with the octolands.I shouted EHHHHHHHHHHH OCTOLANDS turns out it was this kid skiizy. stoke!

you shouldnt be so judgmental about tricks! thats not what matters anyways... i try to focus on whether or not their tall ts are longer than their jackets, whether their sticker job looks like their sponsed, etc. etc. oh and no gog sag? click clack!

I'm never a super dick but I'll be a dick to people in the liftline. especially the people that are on my tails, I stomp on theirs and they get the message. I also run right over people's skis/boards who never alternate in the liftline and cut me off. I do get mad when people will snake in front of you before you''re going at a feature. I get much more mad when I am waiting to hit a feature and then someone goes right past you and doesn't wait. I put up with it because I figure karma will show them.

I almost landed an unintentional 270 out once and a bunch of boarders were like "ahhhh!" like I almost had it, it was encouraging! It's nice when people cheer you on, but yeah, I was in the park at a shitty mountain around where I live and I was about to go hit this like 15 foot step up and a kid cuts in front of me pizzaing his skis, and pizzas over the lip. and rolls down the other side. I was so pissed I wanted to kick the shit out of him. He did it to the next jump too, and fell... how do you fall when you just ride over the lip? I dunno. I hate kids like that.

yeah, that kind of skier gets anyone mad, last weekend i pulled a rail to gaper. 3 of them were sitting right after the rail like within 5 ft. gave them a couple warnings which they just shrugged off, then i went.

Kinda related note too - Kid fell on a jump at my local mt, there was another kid booking in behind him, the kid falls and lands on the table of the jump and the second kid flies over and tail taps the first kids head. snowboarders of course.

I know exactly what you mean. At Sugarbush I was afraid to hit the down rail, and a boarder was nehind me waiting and was like "What are you gonna hit?" and I told him that I was thinking about hitting the down rail but I was psyching myself out. He was like "Dude, I'm not goin till u hit that downrail, you got this." And after he siad that I hit it and was so stoked. But the other day I was trying to get my 3's back and I kept landing to far forward (any advice would be good haha) and one time i got too far forward and lost my ski and some dicks on the chair were laughing. It sucked so much, I hate it when people are assholes like that.

That is kind of sad that you are that worried about what other people think about you. If people laugh at you that is just motivation to land it, and show them how good you are. You shouldn't care if people laugh at you. f'real

yeah i was always afraid to try new things in the park cause i was worried about what people would say and then this year i started riding with some new people and they keep encouraging me and i've already started to step up my game some

word. props and tips from randoms people is always good.

and ive never laughed at anyone other than gapers, or my friends when they fall sometimes. (ie my snowboarding buddy trying ridiculous one footer things on boxes and eating shit).

Hell yea i get pissed when people laugh at others. Last year i was just waiting in the middle of the park, and this kid, probably 13 or so slid a box and did a sketchy 270 off, and i banged my poles together. He looked over at me and cracked a huge smile. Gave me good vibes haha

personally the only reason i celebrate something like gaper day is because im a whore for busting out my florescent yellow and pink gear

is always nice to see people wanting to improve regauardless man...keep us updated on your progress

there's nothing wrong about laughing when people fall because it really is funny as hell. i don't care when people laugh at me cause i know that it probably looked pretty funny. just don't be a dick and you're good

im glad theres someone else out there who gets bugged out by that too. i always stare at them and they never seem to know why. i muggin at you because you just ran over my skis, idiot.

im also tired of people in the liftline going "oh those skis are so big. they must be powder skis". not to me, but to whomever theyre with. like i can't fucking hear them. i just want to go "oooooh look at your skinny skis, you must be from 1993". but its a taboo thing to say to them, like making fun of handicapped people.

i hate lift lines.

if i ever am going to make a mean comment about someone, i either keep it to myself and say it in my head, or Ill make a comment about someone falling or sucking because it is one of my friends and we are all riding and laughing together and at eachother. never out loud at someone because they "suck" though

Maybe I'm a bit of an asshole because of this but the image of that made me laugh a bit (less he was mentally handicapped then deff not cool).

Same here.

A couple weekends ago, I was on the Jay Tram. Some lady reached over my head and closed the front window. I reclosed it and she goes, don't close that. I said, it's going to get extremely hot in here in a couple minutes, people will sweat, and everyone's goggle's will freeze up. She said, 'Well, the wind blows in my face when it's open.' Yeah. So turn around you stupid bitch. WTF do you do when you go down the hill?!

Good shout out yeah i only lough or say somethign to someone who cuts me off..

witch is mostly only snowboarders i go and talk shit it pisses me off oh and i lough at my friends if they fall but always ask if they are alright after compose myself..

i agree wholeheartedly.

the best thing to do is to be stoked on other people, compliment them if you see them trying something or stick something sick, or give someone advice if you see them struggling with something new. makes for so much better vibes and an all around pleasant atmosphere.

Yeah there's nothin better than when someone is totally cool or gives you a few pointers right after you eat shit...happened to me last 2 times i went skiing. Rails/boxes kill me and its pretty embarrassing every time i screw up. But most ppl are pretty cool about it and are willing to help you out. Nothin pumps me up more than being encouraged like that!!

Glad to see people at least respect each other trying new shit.

I agree that complete gapers that get in the way and stand on landings and go off sides and shit get annoying.

If you are trying stuff though, just go for it. Or wait until the groups or crews ride away. At least then you wont fail in front of everyone.

This is so true. I know that when i was younger and some older guy was talkin to me and given me tips and props, i threw down so much harder and did a lot that day. I'm 19 now and i love talkin to the younger guys on the hill and helpin them out. It sucks though when they turn out to be better then me haha but whatever, all a big happy family

the people where i ski are real nice i did a dumb fall the other day after riding away clean just caught an edge and a snowboarder and i laguhed it off and if im waitin to drop in and some other kids are goin i always am like nice nice solid tricks and watnot

I sometimes give gapers pole claps if they are trying and not fucking up jumps, or getting in the way. I saw a man in a cowboy hat on rentals trying to slide a box. It was pretty fucking cool until the fucker ran into me on the box .

at my local mountain squaw there two groups of kids that hang out in the park all day. One group is a bunch of hardcore park kids. The other is the squaw valley freestyle team who only does jumps. Both of them think they are the shit and are complete dicks to everyone. The freestyle team kids talk alot of shit but can't back any of it up. The park kids are pretty good but think they are wayy better and cooler than everybody else. I just chill with my friends and session a rail all day. Whenever we try new tricks and fall the two groups talk shit but it doesnt matter at all. You just gotta keep going and have fun. thats all the matters.

props to people trying new things, the only people that bug me when im riding are the older kids that wear jeans and race each other through the park wrecking all the landings and making them really sketchy

Yeah sure people who make fun of others that try new stuff are morons. But you should never let them discourage you from getting better. The people that are the most the asses in the park are mostly some average skier/boarder that think they are the shit, the ones that are good don't make fun of other they actually help.

I was sitting at the top of the park and i was trying to get my mind set on the trick i wanted to do, and the guy next to me who was a complete stranger could tell i was a little nervous, so he gave me some advice...it would be really nice if more people were like that...especially the real experienced ones like the guy i was telling you about
