On Camera Audio

Hello M&A,

I want to put a mic on my T1i and have a couple of questions. Here is what's going on...

I'm a drummer and used to use a set of mics for my acoustic set. Since, I've moved to an electronic set and now I have a bunch of mics. Two of them being mini condensers (used on my cymbals) and the others being dynamics (used on my toms).

I want to attach a mini condenser to my camera but I'm not sure if I can do it considering the connections from mic to camera....

As you probably know, the T1i has a 2.5mm female jack (1/16th inch). First of all, can the T1i even use an external audio source due to the 2.5mm input?)

The condenser mic has XLR (3-pin) male output. How do I get from that to the 2.5mm input on the T1i?

Help is much appreciated.

Sparknotes:

1.) Condenser mic to be put on T1i.

2.) How does one connect XLR male output to 2.5mm female input?

Thanks M&A.

one does not simply "convert" XLR to 2.5mm jack.

You have to buy an XLR adapter which can run for like $150-300

mmm I did not know of said "adapter."

googling doesn't always work...

On the Rode Videomic for $149 is the output a 3.5mm or a 2.5mm?

I don't think the original idea is going to work considering these adapter issues...

I see a way from XLR ........ to 1/4th inch......... to 3.5mm.........to 2.5mm....

but i just feel like that is not going to work for some reason with all that conversion nonsense.

okayokay how about this?

Putting a Rode Videomic Shotgun on my T1i.

IS THIS POSSIBLE due to the 3.5mm to 2.5mm conversion?

Thanks for input!
