Olympics?

Do anyone get excited about the olympics anymore?? summer or winter? I just feel as though the olympics have kind of lost their hype. With the rules that are different in certain sports, and as well I think it has the excitement because their is so many overseas athletes that play here in the US.
What are your opinions??

im excited to go to 2010 and take pics but i know how tight they are going about that, maybe ill get a media pass?

i meant so i can any where, but i don't know for a fact, but i could image them being anal about it

i'd watch them if there was something interesting about them, which there isn't. and the announcers are ever so boooring, they don't seem to enjoy the games in the least bit, they just toss out statistics and obvious facts about the events.

Thats the thing it has now become so much about stats that I think they have the lost the real focus of the games

they should have an event for legends only, pit like MJ against Tyson in an obstacle course or something. i don't know if that's a really good idea or not (because i've been drinking), but if i see it on tv, i'm sueing and using this post as evidence. is that possible? but yeah, anyways, they seriously need to step it up as far as events go, it's the same old stuff every year. or bring back old-school gladiator fights, to the death. I'd watch the olympics if Brad Pitt and Will Smith fought to the death with battleaxes and throwing knives.

being drunk doesn't usually affect my typing skills, plus the fact that i have been correcting any typos found when reading back over what i said. i like to get my point across as clearly as possible. oh and firefox's built-in spellcheck rules.

I like watching the running and sailing in the summer olympics.

But I'm all over the winter ones, stay up till 2 in the morning watching that shit.

im actually really excited for them. im not gonna be glued to it but i love almost no matter what time of day theres always something on to watch. i think phelps' run at 8 golds should be sick and so should the bball team

Agree. These sports are getting old and we all know how it ends:

a black man runs the faster

a black or an arab one runs the longer

a white man throws something the farther

USA wins basketball

France wins sword

Japan wins judo

China and russia win gymnastics ...

I hardly understand people having fun watching a guy throwing something or running right in front of him jumping over things ...

I dunno, im pretty excited to see the 800m,1500m,5000m run and the marathon as well. Excited to see how ryan hall will do in the marathon...

I live in the U.S. but I'm going to be in New Zealand while the olympics are going on so I'm kind of excited to see them from a different point of view and not just from the fools on the today show

unless you are part of syndicated media and have a huge amount of background checks done, there's no chance in getting a media pass. this is so joe public can't get in for free.

you are allowed to take pics but you are not allowed to enter event venues with professional photography/videography equipment.

i get more excited for winter olympics. mostly cuz i love the LUGE. but summer olympics are allright, i suppose. im stoked for mens basketball.

i got to go to some of the events when the winter olympics were here in SLC.

that was really cool.

but i am interested to see how the olympics in china go down this year.

between the air quality and the human rights issues with tibet...

I was in Austria during the last Winter Olympics and it was somewhat interesting besides from the fact that I couldnt understand anything that was going on because of the German speaking going on over the telivision

Does anyone think though that it has maybe lost its excitement because of the fact that all of these athletes already play with or played on the same teams together here in the US. I mean the olympics used to be to represent your country and it was almost like a war (example US vs russia) The russians were the bad guys back in the day and the country almost took pride in the fact that the us beat them. Now its just about winning metals for the individual athletes not as a country. what do you think??

it's true. then again, this is a sign of advancement. either racism is decreasing, or racists are just afraid to admit they don't like certain people because of where they come from. either way is fine with me. besides, i'd rather support an individual for the achievements they've made than give the props to their country for producing them.

you also have to be somewhat interested in an event to like it in the first place. For example, i love watching the track events because i run track and i want to see some ridiculous times and hopefully some records.

but i think theyve definitely lost some of the excitement and have gained more controversy

If theres one event where there wont be any records, its the olympics.

olympics=strategy running=slow pace, mega kick in the last stride.

or you may be talking about the sprints, and I would say that this year a WR could be achieved in the 100 with the line of athletes. But then I wouldnt be so sure about it, with the climate in china which can be bad for a lot of athletes from the north hemisphere...

yea it has been disappointing lately. I just read a biography about bill bowerman that included descriptions of the olympics in the 50s 60s and 70s. Back then it seemed like they dropped times like crazy at the games

I don't know about you guys but 100m dash is some exiting stuff!! so is high jump...diving...gymnastics floor exercise (no homo) and the bmx should be fun to watch too

you're pretty ignorant and stupid. Let me go over this and prove you wrong. First, jeremy wariner won the 400m sprint last year. He is white. Second, Reese Hoffa is the leading shotputter in the world right now and hes black. Third, the US bball team gets killed because they don't play as a team. Fourth, I don't even know what event sword is. Fencing? Try naming the events correctly. Fifth, China and Russia are good at gymnastics, but you forgot about Romania, the US, and all other countries that are good too.

Your last part is the worst. How is a guy throwing something or "running right in front of him jumping over things" (what does that even mean, makes no sense, speak english correctly please) any different from a guy skiing down a hill? In skiing, people must execute tricks with perfect technique and style to do their best. Track and field is the same exact thing in a different venue. The best athletes in the world have to execute their events and techniques perfectly or else they will not win. So in conclusion, you're an idiot
