Olympics coming up (SO STOKED, GO AERIALS!)

i live here in Van and i would way rather be having x games or dew tour then the olympics personally. So many people tell me how its a once in a lifetime thing but i reallly dont care that much

I thought aerials was kind of cool, until i saw a chick do a spread eagle 3, which the judges thought was a super technical trick. It was amazing how shocked they were to see her do it. It was literally the gayest trick every onto moguls.

Spriggs you are my hero. That last post expressed my view on skiing and competition perfectly. After being at a FIS big air comp and seeing the bullshit judging I am genuinely glad we won't be in the 2010 olympics.
Stoked that Dylan Ferguson is going to the olympics, hope he jumps his best and I hope he has some time for some shredding around whistler too.

So the only thing that i have gotten from this thread is that John Spriggs is an uneducated and classless fuck. I never liked his skiing, always thought it was ugly, now i hate him as a person too, what a joke.

So my buddy matt depeters is in the olympics for aerials like i said before... he is by no means rich or making bank off of being an olympian. He works at the lake placid movie theater selling popcorn when he isnt training.

I suck at imbedding but go to www.Csfilms-media.com and check the video in the first news link. He's killing it in the park harder then most of the kids out there and he only gets to ride park for a few weeks a year.

and you don't think that if pipe skiing is added to the olympics the same restrictions will apply? welcome to the world of FIS. if slopestyle was ever made an FIS sanctioned event every jump, landing, rail etc... would have to be to their specifications.

in any nationally sanctioned halfpipe event in canada competitors have to certify all inverts on water ramps before the comp so you don't have idiots hucking themselves with no idea what they're doing.

damn you're fucking ignorant!

While you are on point in some ways, it is misguided to use traditional freestyle ski events as a guideline for what to expect when and if ski halfpipe gets in. It is halfpipe, it will be much more in line with snowboard halfpipe, than it will be with aerials or moguls (even though Joe F and the FIS fresstyle ski crew will be involved). There are already talks happening at FIS level to have ski and snowboard halfpipe working together.
And in Canada, the Olympic and Nationally sanctioned halfpipe snowboarders do not have to certify their inverts or doubles on water ramps. Expect to see ski halfpipe working more closely with snowboard halfpipe in the future at an NSA level in Canada.

This bothers me. I have a good friend who on on the aerial team this year. What bothers me about this is that he is one of the best athletes i have ever met and dedicates his entire life to this sport. Kid works selling popcorn in the summer so he can keep skiing all winter. There is not alot of glamor in what he does i assure you. He also started skiing not doing gymnastics or pool diving he started jumping at 11 he is now 21 and on the Olympic team. Will Wesson has the best attitude saying that skiing is anything you do with skis on your feet. What is truly awesome is when you talk to him about hitting those jumps its not about training or winning he just talks about how much fun it is. He loves every part of the sport of skiing.

This sounds like a lot of rationalizing to make yourself feel superior to other people.
This wasn't a thread about whether the FIS is great or not. It was about the legitimacy of the sport of aerials. In the same post you talk about wanting freeskiing to stay outside of FIS control to keep it truly free, then go on to claim the ability to judge what is and isn't skiing. I suggest you grow up, learn some respect, and stop being as close minded as the people who run the FIS.
