why is all the oakley and spy goggle logos so small on all the riders goggles? ive always noticed that..anyone know?

i think it might be related to the fact that olympians are supposed to me amateur athletes...amateur in the sense of they cant get paid for the sports. because of that there is some sort of cap on the size of logos. something like 3 inches ...olympics way of keeping too much business out of the true essence of the sport...anyone else feel free to correct me on that one

no its not..they were like that last olympics too...the spy and oakley logos are soo small. does it have anything to do with advertising?

someone posted this in gear talk and they said that the tv companies dont want to advertise so they have to put on small logos

i think that it has to do with addvertising, i noticed last olympics that some of the skiers had ducttape over the logo on there goggles, i think that the ioc doesnt want large logos on the goggle strap so they allowed them to make it smaller.

Olympic committee made them do it. there is another thread floating around about Olympic sponsorships and it was mentioned in there.

definitely to do with product placement/advertising. I can't remember his name but one guy in the boarder cross had to completely duck tape his entire UVEX goggle strap! didn't look great on an olympian athlete!
also does anyone know why such a large number of olympian/world cup skier wear uvex goggles?

It has to do with advertising, sort of, as in the olympics advertising isn't allowed, and logos of clothing brands.. for example oakley logos on oakley products, can't exceed a certain size limit. Hence they are allowed to have an oakley/spy logo on oakley/spy goggles, but they have to be small. And they can't put a monster/red bull logo on the helmet for example as monster/red bull isn't the maker of the helmet... Hope this clear things up..

theres no relation with miller time and the beer company. Its a nickname he got while playing the past few seasons in buffalo

I know about that. But they might consider that advertising anyhow. If his nickname was any other brand name, he'll probably have to take it out.

Imagine if he had been able to sneakily work out a deal with Miller and not got called out on it. $$$$$$$$$$$$

it's not just the IOC that has restrictions on how and where athletes can place sponsor advertising, the individual teams can do so as well.

remember when the original dream team was sponsered by reebok and jordan refused to play along? he even draped the american flag over the logo on his shoulder during the medal ceremony, that caused quite the kerffuffle

maybe the IOC should spend more time regulating killer luge courses and less time regulating the logos on helmets and goggles.

yeah, I was staying with an oakley rep last weekend (super legit guy) and this was brought up. if the company wants to have a logo on their product it has to be in compliance with the size regulations or else it needs to be completly removed. all the straps for the olympic athletes had to be custom made so they could still have the O logo.

Same deal with highschool sports here in michigan too. The jerseys and whatnot cant have a logo bigger than X by X on them.
