Most countries broadcast the Olympics on public (therefore free) TV and in my experience without ads during the events either. All you need is a vpn to have an ip from that country and you can stream from their site. I've had success in the past with French and Dutch TV but I'm thinking Canada could also be a good bet if you want English commentary, I think CBC is public but not sure.

I think he was just being real about judging criteria. Also the grab can be difficult to see in real time so focusing in on it in the replay adds to it a bit.

Cbc is free, all events, no commercials for all Olympics, always has been. They have a phone app too, but not sure if that'll work outside of Canada

wow i was wondering why henrik seemed so pumped on a trick that clearly wasnt taking gold but didnt know that was his first olympic big air medal period. awesome to see him get one. Ahall was so close to landing
 
Some spare thoughts:

Anybody know what the easy tiger thing on the Italian guy's glove is about? My only guess is it's a reference to Ralph Welponer's Insta handle but that seems odd.

The NBC photo of Henrik is old - he still has dreads - and I'm confused as to why just his is.

The Norwegian coach's headband is fire.

Oliwer Magnusson hugging Jesper Tjader was hilarious and drove home just how short Jesper is.

Birk was a deserving winner, but more importantly it was heartwarming to see Henrik finally get an Olympic medal.

It was a pretty good show but can't help but feel the 3 runs are extremely limiting. It rewards consistency more than technicality and creativity. If you miss a grab on the first jump, let alone fall, you're on the back foot for the whole comp. Maybe I'm just too used to the jam format from X games where they're free to send it a bit more.

Also judging felt way different from other comps, like the grabs mattered more than normal (but just that you held them and not what the grab was). Like A-Hall got one hand on the ski but missed the double grab and got his score destroyed.

Yeah, the finals were a good show but the format definitely promotes safety and consistency over creativity. Felt like half the field only landed one jump. I think they got half as many jumps as x games finals, kinda weak
 
Because if you don't grab your grab, you're a scrub and shouldn't get a high score

I thought Tom did a great job with the commentary. The first few years he was doing announcing it was pretty rough, but it's clear he's been practicing and I thought he sounded great. Big ups because some of these tricks are hard af to understand/explain.

Uhhhhh ……… it’s the first Olympic big air ever man so no he doesn’t have a medal in that before last night lol. Not very surprising lol

Anyway it’s his 3rd Olympics and the first one he should have got 3rd with his run but got 6th then cleaned his slope run up and had thag pants come off on the final jump and kinda fuck him………the second Olympics he didn’t land a slope run in qualification and didn’t even get a shot on tv I don’t believe. So it’s a new stage for him to medal and he hasn’t been doing so well in comps the last two-

- three years compared to before that when he dominated. So he’s like kinda back. Even though he’s doing the same tricks as before (stupid 3 run and land 2 format)

Almost stomped it. Big respect, said fuck it gold or nothing. And huge props to Colby for silver, Birk was on one and deserved it, but Colby going right back to the nosebutter and lacing it was the sickest part easily.
 
Thought the judging was pretty on point tbh. It's the olympics, shit has to be locked in, grabs held and technical as poss, agreed that the 3 runs limits creativity but yeh I kinda view this comp as different from something like the x-games which should be more about progression.

Birk was on another level, deserved the win, and just so stoked to see Henrik and Colby medal.

Also Mac throwing a dub 7 with ABM commentating was great haha, "ohhh man, that's my favourite trick"

I thought the same thing. In my head I was thinking “ah this guy got lucky and just qualified because of thin numbers” then he dropped a trip 16 and I was hushed

It was cool to see him and the Italian come out of relative obscurity with heaters. It looks like both will be in slope, and I'm excited to see what they do - along with Simo Peltola, who stomped that dub 14 to one-foot landing as a throwaway trick in qualis.
 
side thought, maybe it’s a little fucked up how it’s easier to get into the olympics than it is to qualify for the world cup circuit. fucked up in the sense that the world cups and other lower-level qualifying comps should be more accessible.

Hard agree, from financial, geographical, and logistical perspectives. It drives home how important pro-am events like Wallisch's rail jam are.
 
I'm using the CBC App getting an ad of Dan O'Toole promoting some online gambling site in Ontario from time to time. It mostly hasn't been an issue, but I did Anastasia's run in big air qualifiers because of it.
