Olympics 2008 protesting and boycotting?!

Ok so probably many of you have heard of what's going on. And theres probably threads on this that I could've searchbarred.

However, being Chinese myself, I feel I have to offer a side of the story many don't consider. Today Hilary Clinton urged President Bush to boycott the opening ceremonies.

This I believe is the single fucking stupidest thing Clinton has done throughout her ill-fated cockfest of a campaign. I have nothing but disrespect for Hilary by the way. In fact, I have almost 0 if not less than 0 respect for all leftists. The Olympic Games, first off, should never EVER be the proverbial chess pieces of the political game. No country should ever use the Olympics of all things as a vehicle by which to coerce their own motives and agendas unto others. While I do agree China should have freedom of religion, I have to say boycotting the Olympics would be the single worst action of the United States in the past 8 years. Yeah, thats right. Worse than the war in Iraq. Worse than the slew of iffy interpretations of offense from every comment any senator made from 2006-present. The spirit of the Olympics is to suspend politics itself, and allow all nations despite any disagreements to compete freely in games. Originally in Ancient Greece, all wars were suspended so the games could be played. What is the world coming to these days under the hands of fucking liberals.

Now, I am a very huge anti-communist. I will be the first to criticize the actions, welfare, and infrastructure of China. However, this is not the method. Hilary Clinton can take her campaign and shove it up her arrogant ass.

discuss.

The marathon runners are pulling out because of the air pollution there, they don't even know if they could run a 10k there because the air is so dirty.

yea true. See? That is a 100% OK "boycott." Its not even really a boycott and its 100% justified. I know first hand how shitty the air is. Like if you go for a month, the sky is cloudly for all but maybe 2 days cuz of the smog. As soon as you leave the cities, its clear! and its not like gray cloudy its like yellow cloudy. grosss.

But back on topic. thisis a totally non political approach thats well justified. It also sends the message to china to clean up their shitty air. Using political pressure on the other hand...

the olympics are supposed to be an event where all the countries put aside their political bull shit and civil unrest and anything else that is wrong and sit down and watch some fucking amazing people do their shit. it is not supposed to be a political thing and when you try to make it a political thing you just end up looking like a bitch because of all the other countries that can do it.

Dude its much more than politics. Do you know how many Tibetans have been killed over such an idiotic government? Not to mention the millions that Mao killed years ago. I agree that the Olympics are being unfairly used for another motive, but that motive is absolutely necessary. China is in the world spot light now and people are finally waking up to the atrocities they have and are committing. I for one think the protests are great. And please stop with your RW/LW bullshit man, you really need to grow up. A human life should be protected and fought for no matter your political stance.

You have got to be the biggest fucking retard on all of ns. Seriously you are dumb. Its that simple. D-U-M-B. You dont know the first thing about tibetans. Read what you want from LEFT WING media outlets about tibetans and china. You don't get both sides of the story. I get China's central news station (CCTV) at my house and watch it sometimes. Do you even know what atrocities Tibetans have caused!? Theyre a bunch of crazy nomadic monks who steal, destroy infrastructure, rape, murder, and pillage. They are a form of terrorists! They seem all stoic and shit but they use violence at times to get their point across. And the monks are only a very very small bit of all the tibetans. the tibetans are largely an uncivilized regime. They are an uncivilized tribe of terrorists. While i do agree that china needs free religion, just make sure you view the situation with moderation. I do not in anyway condone China's actions but you and every other libertarian humanitarian and liberal retard are just looking like idiots.

I know china has done bad things before. This is not 1989 tianemen square bullshit. The recent crackdown is so they dont use violence at the games. The left wing media outlets only show you the clips of Chinese government ppl beating on tibetans. What they dont show is tibetans flipping cars and burning buildings. Anytime a video is released with china allowing protests, american media outlets just call it staged.

Learn up before you speak, dumb fuck. You may think you know a lot about the world but you dont. give it up.

I have got to be one of the most critical of China's actions but trust me. THE OLYMPIC GAMES ARE NOTHING TO BE MESSED WITH. Boycotting them wont do anything. Think about it. Jimmy carter in 1980 boycotted the olympics in russia proposing an ultimatum saying either withdraw from afghanistan or we wont play. Too bad it still took another 8 years and the fall of the soviet empire for them to withdraw from afghanistan.

i agree. politics have no place in the olympics. the whole point is to set aside our differences for a small period of time. after we americans go over and dominate in sports, we can go back to hating them later.

Then its censored dude, they use it to keep there people in check. Thats what they do over there, they censor everything and kill reporters who find things out that are bad. I had to write a paper on oppresion in China last year and they do some fucked up stuff

exactly. If theres one thing president bush did right its his relationship with china. His stance is perfect. Be critical but the olympics are nothing to toy with.

No, but I know people who have. When they went there they were like a foreign president or something, people swooned over them. I mean, if you went to China thats cool but it doesn't mean you know what the government does, your just a tourist...

China has been brutally repressing people in Tibet for years and suppressing their movement for independence. Leftist media, sure: who do I trust more, the Chinese government or the Dali Lama?

As for boycotting the Olympics, get used to it, its happened every round. Fuck, if anything, it should be used as a platform to more throughly enforce human rights around the world.

did you not read my post? I am chinese, i go pretty much every other year for weeks. Most of my family lives in china... Also, my moms side of the family(my uncles, great uncles, grandparents, and great grand parents) were VERY good friends with the former prime minister, jiangzheming. In fact i have pics for proof ill post later. I think i have a much better knowledge of the inner workings of china than you. My dad first hand experienced the cultural revolution by mao. my grandparents were in prison and my dad was shipped from school to a farm.

I despise the government of china. But i think people fail to draw the line between a State and a Nation. go read a book for the difference.

I also think there are tons of misconceptions of china. Too many ppl are either too accepting or too hating.

then sir, you have a very poor understanding of international relations, how the world works, and the spirit of the olympics. Governments dont give a shit what ppl do with the olympics, it only makes things worse. Historically a boycott of the olympics has NEVER even remotely worked DIRECTLY NOR INDIRECTLY. In fact it has ALWAYS made things WORSE.

I also dont think many people truly understand the situation with Tibet. The government of china doesnt give a shit what the tibetan fucks wanna do in southwest bumfuck. Its the fact that they want independence and a very large chunk of land. Now lets say somehow, a bunch of people we didnt want as citizens in the first place (a bunch of illegal aliens) start inhabiting like all the vast rural states like the midwest. They start taking up an area like the size of texas or alaska. After a while people move away cuz these aliens are super uncivilized and terrorize people. Then they try to secede from the nation. You know what happened last time people from our OWN country tried to secede?! WE HAD THE BLOODIEST WAR IN AMERICAN HISTORY RETARD.

I agree with Rowen, I'm rusty on my Chinese history but I know during WW2 either Mao or the other guy that he was fighting with to gain control of china gave the Tibetans the boot and have been try to keep them from every coming back. They stole China from them. He's also right when he says the Olympics are used for leverage. I mean, think about it, how could it not be used as leverage even if you didn't want it to be. China is not a good place, its people are being suppressed and murdered daily, why should the Olympics support that?

yeah I agree, even though I am kinda more left. Politics and sports should never be together. Sports are one thing that unites people and puts people against eachother regardless of political beliefs. and yes, I agree hillary is the asshole of this presidential campaigning.

Haha, you cant compare the Tibetan struggle to the South's attempt at secession, YOU obviously dont have a grasp of history if you're seriously going to use that as a simile. The North didnt invade the South, a separate sovereign nation, drive out its spiritual leader and then use violence oppress their peaceful protests.

And historically, what Olympic games cause human right violations to worsen? Normally, when the eyes of the world are on you, you usually clean up your act and get shit in line. Sure, its rough, its superficial, but it's better than nothing. Historically, it at least draws attention to the issue and instigates the seeds of real transitional change.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I learned all this stuff a while ago so it might be a little rusty, although I'm pretty sure thats what happened. But I could be making myself look like a complete idiot, like I said fix it if you want

Yup I actually Just learned Tibet was around last week when I was watching my favorite LIBERAL LEFT WING news channel. Get a fucking life. I have read 2 of the Dalai lama's books before this whole olympic shit storm started, so nice try on the assumptions. Once again, you try to turn this into a LW vs RW argument, typical of you Jumister... I have talked with people who have recently moved from china as well, so your heritage wont win this argument for you either. Wow you get CCTV!? Congratulations, thats like listening to German Radio in 1944. Yeah Tibetans riot because you assholes invaded there country along time ago to promote your bullshit and have not left since. But Ill just say your right now, because you'll inform me again of how well you did on you Sat's and how many AP credits you transfered into Syracuse....

yeah dude, i dont know why the people who choose the spots/authorize the olympic spots or whatever, didnt think of this...

Well most people figure its nice to stop murder wherever they can. I'm not just digging up facts in the last 10 minutes, I was just giving my opinion and thoughts on the subject, its not like I just went off and said HEY I WANT TO BE TRENDY AND HATE ON THE IRAQ WAR CAUSE ITS IN STYLE! Don't spit random hate at me like that, I know this has being going on for a while, I wrote an entire paper on it. Its not like I'm up in arms going HEY CUT THIS SHIT OUT OR IM ACTUALLY GOING TO DO SOMETHING! I can give my opinion where ever I damn well please and don't need some random person come here and try to make me look like some trendy little bitch, thanks though

Their protests aren't peaceful. Have you ever watched Lost? The situation is similar compared to the othrs and the real people. While the others are obvious bad guys, its the survivors of 815 that killed like almost all the others. Likewise, tibetans have terrorized way more than you think.

And historically the Olympics have been used to boycott Soviet Russia as well as about 8 other isolated times and once in San Fransisco by soviet russia. Historically its gotten worse in every situation. Soviet russia got worse before it collapsed, Nazi Germany went into overdrive, etc.

It doesnt instegate change. We should embrace China coming into the world spot light. We should adobt the Bushes' policy and be constructively critical. Its a fragile situation. The chinese are a very grudging people. If we boycott the olympics, trust me the chinese will definitely go back into their arrogant, ethnocentric selves and all progress will be halted. Don't forget, the chinese think theyre better than everyone else, not the other way around.

Hey, there are hundreds of conflicts and situations that are repressing and killing people every day. Any news for these is good news as far as I'm concerned. Nothing will happen unless people know.

hahahahahaha

nice pin yin.

"Im Sean"

"Im Jumisters (4th) bitch" (the day you teach me anything is the day the US falls)

"Im a huge faggot"

Chou ni yang de.

are you being sarcastic er... cant really tell when ppl use basic pin yin. But anyway, very nice, much better than EastcockAR5. and thanks?

That was a terrible example, don't you remember how that started? The others stole a pregnant women and tried to kill her. Throughout the beginning of that show the others raided the survivors camps before the survivors decided to stand up for themselves. It's retaliation, the Tibetins (sp?) won't just leave and be happy, the Chinese took everything they had and pushed them out to that little island

unless you meant I am wrong? Hard to tell without the tonal marks. Anyway you used it wrong. If you wanted to say i am worng its:

Ni bu duai (sp?) or Ni shou de hua chou de.

I'm pretty sure that all in all, the Chinese army has killed more Tibetans than the Tibetans have killed Chinese soldiers. There was, you know, that whole all out massacre in 1959:

"This 1951 agreement was initially put into effect in the Tibetan regions under Dalai Lama's administration (Ü-Tsang and western Kham). However, Eastern Kham and Amdo(Qinghai)

were considered by the Chinese to be outside the administration of the

government of Tibet in Lhasa, and were thus treated like any other

Chinese province with land redistribution implemented in full. Most

lands were taken away from noblemen and monasteries and re-distributed

to serfs. As a result, a rebellion led by noblemen and monasteries

broke out in Amdo and eastern Kham in June 1956. The insurrection, supported by the American CIA,

eventually spread to Lhasa. It was crushed by 1959. During this

campaign, tens of thousands of Tibetans were killed. The 14th Dalai

Lama and other government principals fled to exile in India, but

isolated resistance continued in Tibet until 1972 when the CIA abruptly withdrew its support. After the Lhasa rebellion

in 1959, the Chinese government lowered the level of autonomy of

Central Tibet, and implemented full-scale land redistribution in all

areas of Tibet."

Human Rights Watch has repeatedly called on China to halt the offenses taking place there today. The Chinese government has systematically tried to dismantle and destroy their culture in the name of national ideals and Chinese identity. Over half a million Tibetans have died as a result since the takeover in the 1950's. I really cannot see how such actions could ever be justifiable. Should the Olympic games be the platform for change? If the Chinese government wont listen to anything else, then sure. Who cares how fucking arrogant and begrudging they are, ANY government doing this sort of shit is downright uncivilized and barbaric. If China wants to join the world as a respected nation, they need to get their shit together and support the freedom of its citizens. Thats the world I want to live in anyways.

umm chou 4th tone is actually ugly, but nice try.

and it would actually be

I (am) named Sean

I am Jumisters (political) teacher

I am american.

Jumister is Ugly.

(good bye)

(thank you)

I see you have given up on the subject at hand though.

Ok how bout this? We did the same thing to native americans. Now what

if all the huge midwest reservations wanted the secede and become

independent countries recognized by the UN? What if they tried to blow

up your houses, Park City, Vail blahblah to get their way? Im sure the

national guard would come into play.

Also, I never said they killed more chinese soldiers. But the way you put it, you make it sound like the tibetans were helpless little creatures being pwned by ginormous robots. This is not the case. Theyve killed plenty of chinese civilians. Also, China is a much older country than America. In all the thousands of years before the tibetans, China was china. there was no tibet. It wasnt until the past few hundred years that they wanted their own identity.

first of all, i don't know if you are using this as an outlet to vent about the right wing ideals your daddy taught you or if you are talking about the olympics. if you are really talking about the olympics, there's much more to it than politics. first of all, the stadium is plopped in between like 17 of the 20 dirtiest cities in the world pollution-wise, the venue will not provide the athletes with food, and contestants just aren't looking forward to it. china claims they would get started with cleaning up the air, but nothing has happened there. i don't know about you, but if i were to compete there's no fucking way it would be in industrial asia. think a little out of your political box before putting words in the mouths of the people that would actually have to run in that shit.

ITS 3rd tone retard.

ooo thats what the (4th) is for.

That why all of us run Casinos now. And we actually still live here in peace, with nice houses and anything you could ever want. I'm part Native American, so you can't really say anything that is going to beat me. Last time I checked, I don't care if my land was stolen, I still live on it. If you want to give me a Casino then go for it, I enjoy money. Yes I know my people were killed and that it was bad but you can't hold some crazy grudge if those same people now live with you and you are treated like everyone else, had China done this maybe things would be different, but seeing as they havn't....not so much
