Yeah idk this guy is on a big privilege tip, which I understand in skiing but in general most video/photo professionals are very hard working and money doesn't really help you further your career, connections do tho.

Are you just talking about ski filming at this point? because, surprise again you're making generalizations, you're just assuming everyone who does art comes from the middle class or higher.

Again, you could be a billionaire and that's not gonna get you hired as a DOP or producer, money doesn't run the film/photo industry, connections/networks do.

Dog your gear starting out literally doesn't matter. When you enter the industry you start out as an assistant, grip or bitch boy. You do nothing with the actual cameras until you are like 3 positions higher than that on set. By that time you're getting paid and learning on the job from working professionals. There has never been a more accessible time in history than now and the recentish past to enter the industry. Also you don't need to move to LA and buy a Tesla, most relatively large cities have a big enough industry to be more than sustainable as a career field for people.

On top of that, most commercial work uses rental gear anyway since the camera/lens(es) is determined by the project. This is more common in video but also very common in photo work. It's easy to look around and see thousands in gear, but it's not easy to look around and see the hours of networking, research, learning and free projects that people do to earn credibility, a reputation and make their way in the world.
 
The way I see it, at least in Olympic big air, is that they layout was optimized for tv. Given restrictions on where media could stand there wasn't many framing options other than guy in the sky

Not sure if it's wrong because the main photos for the thread prove it doesn't really take talent to become a professional photographer.

Eheath is right, theyre talented photographers without an eye for skiing. For a good photo, you want the optimum angle (include their face, see their hand in the grab, shoot from underneath them for a more impressive angle, and the viewer should see the jump and landing to get a scale for how impressive the trick is)
