Olenick's whiskey flip: I can't believe the judges are buying it!

Pete O did not skid out on the rest of his tricks. I see no reason why he is not able to land this one just as well.

This has nothing to do with my ability. I will most likely never do a double in the pipe, nor do I have the skill to pull something that crazy off. However, when one is judging an event, I feel that stomping shit is important to winning. As Olenick did not stomp his Whiskey Flip landing on any of his comp runs, I feel perfectly justified saying that he should not have recieved 3rd, with Hatviet throwing down as hard as he was.
 
Looks more like a double lincoln than a double back to me. And it'd be better with a grab, but at least it isn't penciled like that 12.
 
do you guys realize how fucking scary flipping in a pipe is...if he were to even slighty go out of the pipe he has risk of snapping his neck, he could even die doing this trick. i give him full credit and props on this trick
 
I would rather see a double flip without a clean grab then a 1260 without out a clean grab. But I also think they were both fucking sweet.
 
who cares about the direction we are going in pipe skiing. Its all melting due to global warming and frankly pipe skiing isn't that interesting.

Just watch dumont's run in the x games and olenick's whiskey flip was so sick I almost shit myself.

you don't have much to work with for a score in the pipe so riders have to keep up the style and technicality or else it does get boring and judges will beat you down for that.

whisky flip... not such a fan. but the rest of his run is pretty dope spinnng both ways, nice smoth cork when i was watching his run i remebr digging. like tanners switch 10 it was liek hoola-hoop,m ye sits switch but you want to judge style its lacking. but fuck the 12's and 10's first hit. does anbody remer Lurent Lefarve?!! 22 foot alleyoop air last year at X, that was the dopest thing ever. i miss lurent. and i will be glad when alll the pros get spin-to-win-itus out of there bones.

he is right that its a double back flip with a little rotation and no grab... but its rediculous none the less... i agree too that i dont like skiing going in that direction but thats competitions we all know that... what else do u expect from the judges, the riders know this thats why they spin to win and crap... comps arent where skiing is heading... thats the whole money side of the sport... skiing IS heading to stylish spins and ideas... but the public outside the core freestyle community doesnt understand a zero spin... they are like what was that where is the 12's and whiskey flips....
 
if skiing is about creativity then we should be welcoming anything new, especially if there are precious few people in the world who can pull off a whiskey flip. i reckon peter stomp it, he wouldn't have tried it at x if he couldn't, most of us just havent seen it stomped, when we do see it i'll be thinking, fuck that is insane.

dont knock people for tring new shit, whiskey flips make a change from the spin to win mentality we currently have
 
The above quote is a perfect example of an argument against Pete's trick. I respect it for being extremely difficult; however, halfpipe skiing itself has a long way to go. I prefer clean switch 9s to the ballsy tricks. They are just as difficult and people like my friend above don't understand them. No one should be talking about how these tricks should be judged unless they can even come close to doing them. And if you find "stylish" skiing boring, then your opinion doesn't count.

How much was the notion of the switch 10 argued over last year, I guarantee you that only about 1% of the people in that raunchy debate can actually do a switch 10.

Also, about naming tricks. Kangaroo flip=double backflip 180. Whiskey flip=double backflip 180. really necesary?

p.s. I think this would be a different argument if he was stomping the shit out of it/grabbing. Also, I am not denying the fact that Olencik is a dope rider, I've always been a fan of his style. The fact that I am not seeing any of that style in this trick has a lot to do with it. He looks like a rollerblader with that shit.
 
Whatever man the double is sick. I do agree with the people saying andreas should have won ski tour his run was way better than tanner's. I can't even see how the judges picked tanner
 
Apparently everyone (except skodeo7) misunderstood what I was saying. I was arguing that his run, regardless of how lame I think the whiskey flip is, was not a sound run. He grabbed very little (less than hatviet for sure) and went small on all his hits after the whiskey flip.

As for the whiskey flip itself,

Skodeo7 is right, if he were actually rotating the trick, landing on the transition, and doing a grab I would have no problem with it. The fact is he lands sloppy every time largely because he doesn’t rotate and lands in the flat bottom, and doesn’t even attempt a grab.

Its also sad how intolerant and hateful you guys are towards gay people, fag is very nasty word and there is likely a few gay kids on newschoolers, not to mention the fact that calling someone a fag just ruins your credibility in any argument. Grow up!

 
hes the only one doin that. go out and try it and if you land it i really dont think that you would care if you landed not perfectly back in the pipe or did a grab with it as he does it more im sure he will put a grab in it
 
Yeah, but isn't one of the most important parts of a competition run having a CLEAN landing (ie. not slipping out, not putting hands down, etc...). If you don't do that than the trick should not count nearly as high as what it has been recently. A run doesn't stay fluid when you sketch out on a trick (especially when its your first). Also, if all he cares about is landing it...than thats silly. People can land double misty's and they look like shit. Is skiing only about landing tricks folks? What happened to style son?
 
i think peter throwing the whisky flip was a good thing cause it is progressing his sport cause if that trick is like the kangaroo flip someone else is gonna come out and do it better than him with a grab and gonna beat him so it will force new tricks so just cause something doesnt have a grab now give it a season or 2 cause i no in a few years i wanna be landing a whisky flip in pipe
