Older people words/language

My parents and grandparents aren’t super old but they say “toboggan” instead of beanie all the time. Also they usually will say “commode” instead of toilet. Let’s hear your old people words. They’re interesting and funny.

My favorite are the boomers pretending like they worked hard for all their stuff while completely ignoring the benefits of the world's best economy, the strongest union workforce in history, minimal wage gap disparity, living wages, non-existent inflation, no world conflicts and racist policies that allowed them to disproportionally access premiere real estate, jobs, etc.

I agree with most of this except for the no world conflicts part. Vietnam. Korea. The Cold War.

Literally handed to them on a silver platter and pissed it all away

Mom would call a Sharpie a 'magic marker'

Dad calls my skis trick skis

Dad also says 'warsh' instead of wash and 'crick' for creek. (He grew up in a rural area on a farm)

No, from Northern Illinois. Mom grew up probably 15 miles from him in the city so she doesn't have that farmer lingo.

My grandma say pop instead of soda.

idk if this is just something my dad says, but he’ll say “thank you much” sometimes instead of “thanks” or “thank you very much” and it bugs the shit out of me

Lol idk If it’s just a Midwest thing or an old person thing but my best friend from back home also says “Thorse” instead of “those” in addition to the words you listed.

Adding the word "the" in front of words to do with technology. I'm talking about not knowing how to do the texting or the email etc. The heart is in the right place but the phrasing is off

"I don't know how you spend so much time on the instagram"

'Up at Crowpiss'- being up first thing in he morning

Old ladies at the store or wherever calling everyone 'my dear', 'my ducky' or 'my lover'

Chainsaw- Power saw

Cordless drill- Screw gun

Mosquitos/blackflies- nippers

Sparks from a fire- flankers

Fir tree- Var

Long sleeve T-shirt or thermal long sleeve- Linder

AMANI get OFF of the SOFFAA you are SO DIRTY get outside and cut more firewood or play in the river with your brothers until SUPPER

"Genuine question here but does anyone know who’s actually in ski crews these days? Or am I just out of touch? I’m talking buldoz, entourage, montana bandits, on slaught, LOS, zootspace, child labor, foreee - even the bunch. Aside from strictly I can’t name 3 members of any “big” crews.

Yet I can still list out everyone who was in 4bi9 & stept

Am I just old or everyone knows who people are?"

"your grandma posted on the facebook"

My grandma did that. She, also, added s where it wasn’t needed and subtracted s where it was needed.

”Let’s go to the Wendy and then the Wal Marts”

Same no matter what I'm showing her even if somebody's dying she'll ask if I was there

My work rolled out Microsoft Teams when the pandemic started since we were doing virtual meeting so often, and it has a chat feature that is like instant messaging. Well also when there’s a meeting you get a chat channel in case people want to chat during the meeting or post follow up. My boomer colleague responded to someone individually accidentally in the chat of a like 100 person meeting and instantly got clowned on by a bunch of people.
