Older lenses for DSLR's

hey guys, I understand the concept behind spending more on glass, as that ensures better shot quality etc. I have spent a decent amount on some extra glass for my 7d, but dont really have a solid prime. Because of this and because of an exhausted budget, ive been looking into using older lenses/attachments that i can find around at camera shops/ebay/classifieds etc. I was wondering if anyone has had success shooting video, and more specifically action sports video, with older lenses, primarily those with wider angles.
for some reason i think Paul Braunstein has used older glass with success though I could be wrong.

C/Y Zeiss 50 1,7 plantar. about $100 with an adapter that will carry focus confirmation.

Any piece of old nikkor glass (the 35 2 and the 50 1,4 are both good lenses) can be adapted.

Soligor 28 2,8 is also a fantastic lens with great imaging. Ask eheath about his.

What lenses do you already have?

i browse dvxuser a lot, and the C/Y zeiss 50 1.7 and 1.4 comes up a lot as a good piece of glass.
currently i have:7d kit lens (28-135)70-200mm50mm
i guess what i would ideal like is something in the 10-30mm range, that i can use as a nice wide angle, that would also be easy to adapt to my 7d

Ive never understood how people can live with a 28mm as their 'wide' lens. On a 7d, (1.6x crop?) a 28mm is around a true 45mm which is just shy of most 'normal' lenses. I've never even thought a 17mm was wide enough.

It really depends on what people shoot and I'm sure you know that just as much as everyone else. "Most" people on other sites don't film/shoot skiing or snowboarding where a wide lens is nice. Granted, many shots a wide lens is nice, but for what they do, they don't always need one.

Hi,

I'll be using a Nikkor 35-105 with an eBay adapter for some of this season. I'll let you know how it is when I get it. The difference between shooting action sports or other subjects doesn't really matter does it?
