Older and need to start wearing a helmet.....

I've been riding with no helmet for years and have plenty of concussions to prove it and now that I'm 33 I'm feeling the effects from those head injuries. So I need to start wearing a helmet if I want to keep pushing my skiing like I do.

Can anyone recommend some helmets that aren't lame and look like crap? I want to be keep some sort of dignity and style.

bern has some helmets that look pretty nice to me, same with poc and pret. Just remember to put the goggles beneath them :)

love my POC with MIPS. giro seems popular too. smith too. all i can think of right now. you said you're going into a shop which is great cause how it fits is most important (assuming you get a decent brand/model ofc)

Do you need to size up to fit a hat under it?

Get a helmet that fits and don't wear a hat under it, a super thin hood or liner is fine but that shouldn't affect fit.

Also Giro is French for Jerry ngl

Second this, I was going about 10 in low angle pow and schnoodled too close to a tree when I fell. I felt a solid impact on the top of my head and when I checked my helmet on the lift there was a big ass dent in it and I was fine

was going to post this . get the MIPS. giro is legit they have saved my head

get a giro with the multi impact foam of whatever they are calling it these days. very safe helmets

Not sure why mystery's post got downvoted but definitely no hats underneath. Think of it as equivalent to putting a child into a car seat with a winter coat on- big no no cuz they'll fly out. Hats mess up the positioning of your helmet and make it ride higher, effectively reducing protection on your frontal and occipital areas of your skull. I just wear a skull cap or under Armour tactical hood; both are sufficient for even the coldest days cuz helmets have insulation in their soft fabric anyway. Also goggles under the helmet is a debatable topic on NS; I vote over the helmet as they are meant to be. Whoever said earflaps are dumb is just salty they can't afford an audio helmet.

Any love for the Oakley Mod1?

I had a mod 1 and a mod 3 I think oakleys helmets just fit like garbage tbh and they’re not worth what you pay. A giro ledge or a smith maze is the way to go. Cheaper steezy and fit well.

Hat and goggles under the helmet > ear flaps and goggles outside

I honestly love my Pret helmets. They're comfortable and have MIPS! I have the cynic x in two different colors lol

POC has some cool stuff but their new liners kinda make weird pressure points on the skull and started giving me a headache so I switched over to one of the Giro Jackson MIPS helmets and they rock. Low-profile protection that has bailed my ass out more than enough.
