Old New Wave

Skiing ballet......... I remember this was big when I was growing up in the 80’s, I’m going to have to dig deep in the closet and pull out the one piece!l hahaha

I posted a similar vid a long time ago, that apparently contains content from the IOC. Now you have to mash the link to YouTube because the IOC blocked it from display on newschoolers. how petty is that? haha makes me laugh.

I wonder how the average skier's perception has changed through the ages; from watching skiers practice ski ballet down my local ski hill to me and my friends wearing tall-ts down past our knees hiking a shitty box trying kfeds. Damn white people.

Either way such a bizarre facet of freeskiing's history. Thanks for the history lesson JLev

Pretty cool you would recognize that and wonder....... I think there are a few NS’s here that have seen skiing evolve over the years. I know me personally, I have seen many changes in the sport and it has been interesting to see where it is today. I was there when skiing ballet was the cool thing on the hill, seen it when gate bashing was in, seen snowboarding start, seen the straight sticks turn to hour glass shapes, seen big mountain and exploring take off, the introduction to Twin tips, and now new wave. I have dug the hell out of seeing it and being part of it. When I see the big baggy pants and shirts hiking up hitting a rail or box, I go try and check it out because that is where the fun is at. Maybe go learn a new trick or even teach one. Others have their opinion on it but this is mine.

2 years ago I actually won a ski ballet contest. Shit was really rad, I wish they still had it as an actual sport- and in the olympics. I personally knew quite a few people who were really good at it.
