Old guy's story...intro

After reading that my appreciation for my dad got a little higher. He works a ton these days so he can't ski with me very often anymore, but i'm really glad he got me started on skiing early.

Good point. Since I have been 18 and stupid I have tried hard to set a good example, that means not saying stupid shit, or being super loud, no blatent drug usage or excessive drinking.

Other than that, this post kicked ass and got me stoked! thanks!

I think that would be a great way to go. If it wasn't such a hassle right now I'd throw 'lil Brimstone in the racing program. Maybe next year, there's going to be a battle between hockey vs. skiing. Probably the 2 most expensive sports one can be involved in.........I need another job!

good post dude. and props too on going back to skiing. yeah this sports about the love so come one dont be jerks, give props to everybody.

I'll throw in my 2 cents...

Im 15 now to help you out.

Long ago when i was 5 or so i started skiing. I took lessons and went to some small mountains. At the age of 8 i decided to drop skiing and pick up snowboarding because it looked so damn fun.

I ride with mostly skiers and i became really attracted last year to it and wanted to pick up a pair, but being on the east coast and having a really shitty winter, there was no point.

Around Christmas time this year i picked up Nipples Armada AR3's on ebay for pretty cheap and i was so happy. Ive used em all this year and love them. I still do snowboarding, in fact i teach snowboarding at my local hill.

I recently picked up the Ninthward Lil' Butters at the Backcountry sale which are sick. I never wanted to completely dropped snowboarding because im very attached to it so heres my plan as of next year.

Skiing: Strictly Park

Snowboarding: All Mountain or if I go with all Boarders to a Mountain. Seriously, snowboarding in POW is like surfing.

Im skiing mostly park because its so progressive..

My daughter was born three weeks ago. In that time, I have landed new tricks and had some of my life's hardest crashes. While i am a bit younger (24), and have quite a bit of experience. Being a dad on the hill rules. I cannot wait for my daughter to pop a nose-press half-cab right behind her dad. Everyone told me I wold lose a step, could not be more wrong, more focus.

Love this thread.

You won't lose a step but it'll knock your priorities straight. It's all worth it though. The moments when they 'get it' are unbelievable (walking, skiing, skating....etc). And BTW she won't be following you, you'll be following her. :)

Actually I thought learning to snowboard was a whole lot easier than learning to ski - you've only got one plank to worry about and your legs can tie themsevles in knots. And I was really into just leaning forwards or back to cruise down the hill- but I'd also been longboarding for a couple years so no doubt that made a big difference. Talking to friends though our theory if snowboarding is really easy at first, but you hit a wall pretty soon and really have to push yourself to get from mid-level to advanced wheras skiing you hit the wall day one, once you hit blues its a logical progression from there to dropping cornices on the left coast.

That's the interesting thing about individual sports. The camaraderie doesn't exist on the same level. Having played football in high school you develop bonds with teammates that may or may not happen in individual sports. The mutual trust is what is unique. Good points. I had a similar issue with football, I thought I was ok but it turned out I was actually pretty good but my parents either didn't care or didn't realize and therefore didn't care when I took a year off. Which of course didn't go over well with the coaches.....

reach with your left hand forwards to poleplant. once you go by it, punch your right fist into the left and setup for the next pole plant. repeat vise versa.

as you poleplant, your weight should be up, almost hopping, turning and transfering your weight to your downhill ski, and landing full weight in the bottom of the turn. hopping up again to initiate your next turn.

it sounds good in my head, not so much on here... good luck. and watch ski instructors closely...you could almost get a free lesson from eavsdropping...
