Ok what the shit mount snow.....

wow spazz much? take a deep breathe and think..... why does MTS not have any snow? could it be, that maybe jsut maybe it's been too warm? naaaaaa it must be that they are out to screw everyone. yeah thats the answer! not.

Seriously, are you kidding me? Did you notice how ridiculously warm it was all of last week and the weekend?

What do you want Mount Snow to pull out this magical snow guns, where you can blow snow when its 60 degrees out?

Give me a break, do you honest to God think that Mount snow doesn't want to make money?

I am so sick of these east coast hating threads. All you people who bitch are straight up losers. IT WAS 60 DEGREES LAST WEEK. Be patient. If you dont like it, move your ass out west. Isn't that hard

The push is low. Bragging rights are already in the books as far as first to open is concerned. The cost of making snow in marginal weather, that will not last is too great.

They simply cannot afford to keep making snow, and have it melt away in a few days, while offering nothing more than a free to use jib park.

whooooaaaaa buddy chill out. I don't think you are completely understanding her. So many resorts started blowing snow this week, Stratton, Okemo and even Bromley started. These are the closest mountains to Mount Snow. On Mount Snows website they are saying that they aren't going to run the guns at all this week. It just seems really stupid of them that they would blow snow like crazy two weeks ago, from top to bottom, and not even touch them this week. They just seemvery stupid when it comes to making snow. I think that that's what she's trying to get at.

True... I see what you are saying.... good point, I apologize. Butttt... It is still only Nov 11th and temps were super warm in lower VT last week....

Why make marginal snow this week to see it all wash away in rain and 50 degree temperatures on Friday and Saturday?

Well the highs for Friday and Saturday are only supposed to be 50. And it is going to be a lot lower than that on the mountain. They are now also predicting less rain than they were yesterday. Yes some will melt, but not all that much. If they were to just make snow on the upper mountain then they really don't have much to worry about. Temperatures up there will only reach the low 40s. My point i'm trying to make is that they need to compete with the mountains that are near them. Which are Stratton, Bromley, and Okemo. They all started making snow this week. And if you were to look at okemo's website. You would see that they already have several feet of snow at the summit.

With good snowmaking temps tonight and tomorrow night, they will be able to make even more. Yes some of that will melt in the mini warm up and little bit of rain, but certainly not all of it. And okemo is planning on opening this saturday.

Thursday Night: Rain. Low around 40. East wind between 7 and 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Friday: Rain likely before 11am, then areas of drizzle. Cloudy, with a high near 48. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Friday Night: Areas of drizzle before 11pm, then a chance of showers after 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around 40. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Saturday: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 51. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

That is the forecast for 2500' in West Dover at Mt Snow. That amount of rain and 2 days of warmth will do wonders to screw up a snowpack and make it nearly worthless for an opening weekend of skiing.

Add to that overnight lows of just 25 degrees the next 2 nights at Mt Snow at 2500' elevation with 80% humidity, and you're looking at marginal snowmaking conditions.

your retarded. its gunna melt friday and saturday, regardless. and mtsnow isn't high in elevation, so being up in the "mountains" does hardly anything for them temp wise. I'll give you a high five if you ride a park more fun this week at another mountain then it was the past 2 weeks at mount snow.

gtfo noob

Okemo is out for a weekend opening.

Again, Mt Snow made the right decision with what they had to work with.

First of all don't call me retarded asshole. And I never said anything about how Mount Snow's park was the past two weeks. I'm talking about them making snow this week. And that is a pretty bold prediction of you to say that it is all going to melt friday and saturday regardless. I highly doubt that all the snow Stratton and Okemo has made this week will all melt after this weekend.

Mount Snow probably did make the right decision.

But it seems really stupid of them that they made snow two weeks ago, top to bottom, knowing that forecasts for the next week(last week)were calling for temperatures in the 60s and well over an inch of rain. And then not make snow now when it is only supposed to warm up for three days and a little less than an inch of rain. Now it probably doesn't make sense for them to make snow this week, but I don't really understand there logic with this.

Well, the prior times, the warmth was not really all that evident and was not predicted to be as severe as it was. I'm sure that had they known it was going to be 60 4 days in a row, that they would not have made snow.

Yeah dude I know what you're saying. Some will melt but certainly not all of it. It is definitely a conservative approach for mount snow, which will probably be better for them in the long run.
But for those of you that say if they make snow it will all melt. There is no way in hell that all this snow Stratton has made this week will all melt. (no pun intended) There is at least five feet of snow on some parts of the summit and if you don't believe me here is a picture. The snow that you see under the chair is about 7 feet deep. Now there is no way that that will all melt with a few days in the 50s and an inch of rain. Especially on the summit where it is on average 10 degrees colder than the base. I know Mount Snow is lower in elevation, but there is still this effect. Now i'm not saying that what Mount Snow is doing is a bad idea, I'm just trying to show that if Mount Snow made snow this week it certainly would not all melt like some people are trying to say.
