Ok so i fucked my ACL... can i ski?

ok so here's and update on my situation ... tomorrow morning im going to see a special doctor that will tell me if there is a brace that i could wear that would allow me to ski this season... during the time im waiting for the surgery ... im going to be clear with him and explain him what i usually do while skiing... Im pretty sure that IF he allow me to ski this winter , it will only be smooth riding ,nojump or rail... but hey, its still better than sitting at home...

Im really stressed, i wonder what He will tell me...!!

ok so this is just an update on my situation...

I've seen the doctor and he told me I would be able to ski this winter with a brace and that i will get the surgery next summer , but this also mean --> not much jumping ... more jibbing I guess... CAN't WAIT to ski. Im stocked.

Ha thank you for proving my point about how crappy Canadian doctors are. Oh yeah and magnetic photo thingy is call and MRI(magnetic resonance imaging).

first the whistler clinic is horrible i tore my MCL and the doctor there gave me the wrong brace so i was wearing it for 2 months and almost fucked my knee up more when it was healing. i skied on it a few times but it was painfull and i was skiing pretty shitty. i would say its not really worth hurting it worse

As always most of the people on this site are speaking from a purely speculative position, ie ther're full of shit.

Read any of the testimonies of people who have skied on torn acl's and you'll see my point. Once you tear it it is torn it can't get any worse. You might as well ski with it very well supported and get the surgur done in the Spring.

I tore my ACL and miniscus January 18th '05 at Alpine Meadows. I skied over 30 days between then and April 30th when I got my surgury. I wore a hinged neoprene brace with the free Orthopedic metal framed lockout brace they gave me at Kaiser over it. I velcroed it on tight and was skiing at 90% the rest of the season.

Not only did I get to ski but my surgeon said that it was the best thing I could have done to build my muscle back up before the surgury. It actually aided my recovery time to have strong muscles going into the surgury.

If you have been off it since High North start building it back up muscularly and double brace it. You can't tear it any more nor are any other parts at higher risk while your acl is torn. In fact many people ski the rest of their life without an acl. you only even want to do the surgery if you have a major loss of stability. You never do surgury that soon after the injury anyway because you want to really wait and see if you will even need it. The surgury ad recovery are in many ways harder than dealing with it and leaving it torn.

Don't feel bad for getting the runaround from the medical community it happens to all of us. If it hurts to bad to ski then don't ski. If you can get the swelling down with elevation of your leg and regular icing then you'll be god to go.

PS the majority of my days on the torn acl were powder/soft snow days in Tahoe on prototype Prophet 130's. Get it done in spring and you'll be good to go again next season and you won't have missed a season of anything but park skiing.

no chance.. happened to me on the third day too in momentum except it was my meniscus... best thing is to get an op have a good recovery then u'll be back and even stronger
