Ok, how many of you out there have bought boots online?

I know it's a bad thing and you should get boot fitted for a boot and all that blah blah stuff the purist on here champion, but I'm just curious. I was looking at getting a dalbello krypton cross with the ID liner... and before you start, I fit in the damn boot, in fact, I went in to see a boot fitter just to try on the cross and the rampage for shits and giggles, but the place has them for $499 and with tax, they will be about $544. I know $544 is relatively cheap for boots, but I'm poor and impatient right now, hah!

I found some online for like $279. I know the boot fitting process outweighs the fact that I will be saving over $200 if I buy online, the frugalness in me just sees that as such an irrational purchase.

So back to the question, how many actually buy boots online because of the price?

Seems like it would be fine. There is nothing wrong with buying boots online, as long as you know they fit. Seems like you tried them on, and they fit. I would buy them online to save 200 if I already tried them on.........

^ yeah, that's what I figured, I agree with that, it just seems so wrong to have the option of buying something for a much cheaper price and then paying $220 more for the benefit of bootfitting. I mean, is that how much I would pay to take my online bought boots to a bootfitting store? I wouldn't do it, it seems like such bad practice.

hahaha, I'm just having a cheapskate sunday morning

ive done it twice, and been fine both times, order it from als ski barn, if it doesnt fit you can send it back and try a defferent pair

See, that's where I'm coming from, like I'd feel guilty buying my boots online after this guy spent some time helping me try on some boots and stuff. But likewise, I think other people on here who buy their own stuff can appreciate how tempting it is to purchase a boot online when you see it for like $200 cheaper than what it is at your local store and tax free.

I bought my boots online and they fit like a glove. There are no bootfitters in town or anywhere near me, so it pretty much was my only option. Plus they were $125 new.

Shops near me will negotiate on prices for boots because they realize that boots should be bought in a shop but shops tend to be more expensive. Ask if they will negotiate.

^^ PLUS in the case of large online retailers e.g. Backcountry.com etc - the sheer volume of their orders are much larger than joes' ski shop so the purchase discount is much higher = much higher margin compared to RRP, therefore they can reduce their prices to rock bottom and still make money.

thats true but when i bought my boots the guy was like "well since these are way cheaper online im gonna take a little off for you" so its worth asking its not like they are gonna say no then make them more expensive

I've had to go to a competing shop because they had the boot and my shop didn't. So I figured why not get fitted by the competition. The boot fit, so I knew I could just shop form it, but I still gave the guy a 20 for his time. At least he gets something out of the deal.

When I bought my tele boots the guy was like "these go for easily 300-400$ online. (they were almost 600 in shop.) And since we dont have many tele customers ill help you out." he gave me a HUGE discount and got my boots for 400$. He said thats how much it woulda costed with employee discount + a little less. I guess it just depends on how eager the shop is to get rid of stuff, because ive heard of people getting last year skis for 100-200$ in town.

the opposite happened with me, sort of.

i had been looking at boots online but when i got to the shop the guy fitted me with this years foil.

so i bought them for 379.

when i got home i went online to see how much they were and right now they are 429 american.
