aiighty so heres the deal. im a senior in high scholl and im really nervous about college. all throughout my highschool career ive slacked off. liek im awsome when i apply myself but i just dont. i also excel at a cti institute for weldign and fabrication. so ive boiled it down to a few but the main college i want to get into is SUNY cortland ( http://www.cortland.edu/ ). i still have to take my SAT on october 4th but i think i will do pretty good. i am also i big time athlete for school in wrestlign and football. i can get excellent refrences and my grades are in the low to mid 70s overall. some better too.

basically im worried about not beign good enough. i may do a community college and transfer in but thats not really what i want.

so basically i just want advice, opions, storys.....anythign that can help me out at all. if need be u can PM me.

thanks!

my advice is that ur bugging out. yeah ur grades arent good. whats ur gpa tho? id say talk to coaches at w/e schools you want to go to so that u get recognized. if you dont then you deff wont get any kinda scholarship for sports (if you wanna play sports in college that is).

besides that, get ur grades up. if you have bad grades because you take hard coarses, then thats not so bad. if not, well you need to get ur act together. get good sat scores. dont freak out about studying a shit ton for sats tho. i personally dont think it helps that much. a lot of schools think that sats dont correctly represent the knowledge of students anyway.

overall, suny schools arent too hard to get into. if you dont get into the school that you really like, dont just settle for something else. go to a community college, get ur grades up, then transfer.

dont hold me to it but its gonna be real hard getting into Cortland with low to mid 70's..i did the same thing in HS and got the same grades. Im a freshman at SUNY Cobleskill right now and im having a great time. Cordland is nothing special and getting harder and harder to get into. apply to SUNY Morrisville and Cobleskill because they are 100% garenteed to accept you and then take some chances like cortland.

yea dude i hate to break it to you but if you were consistently in the low to mid 70s throughout high school you dont have a very good shot of getting in there. maybe if you were sick nasty at football and you got mid 90s this year you might have a shot, but a longshot nonetheless. im not saying its not possible but it will be VERY hard. i had an 84 average consistently through my first 3 years then bumped it up to a 90 for my senior year, got a 1680 on my SATs and i didnt get into the school i wanted to go to for the fall semester (SUNY ESF). but i got in there for the spring semester because i kept bugging the shit out of them with constant letters of reccomendation haha. so im going to community college now up at acc and transfering there in january. so idk dude... just work your ass off this year if you want a shot.

word, i was kinda similar, i finsihed hs with a 83 or 82 and got into all the schools but albany, but i also didnt send my shti in till way late so i got wait listed there, wouldda got in if i sent it in on time. but just work hard. i went the acc community college routw, i regret it osoooooo much, you just miss out on the college eperiance. if worse come to worse apply to places like plattsburgh, o r other eaier/higher acceptance rate schools, and try to get in there, then transfer to cortland.

chances are, with the low gpa/high test scores, they are going to look for something extra from you, to prove you are willing to work. If the essay is optional, do it. Work to get good grades this year. They can tell you are smart by your test scores, so just try to bring your grades up. They LOOOOVVEEE to see improvement.
