Hey guys...my friends and i entered a video contest promoting wind energy over oil. 10 g's up for grabs, and we're sitting in third place.

www.windblows.us is the website.

the video is called "Roommates."

itd help me big, thanks

that's pretty awesome. i'm actually looking to go into some kind of enviornemental engineering thing. last year i learned a lot about alternative energy sources, and i really enjoyed it. i also think it'd be really awesome if i could somehow be a part of a new widespread fuel/energy source

I was driving in the middle of no where vermont and saw one of those things sitting in somebodys fron yard. I dont hink that guy will every have to pay for electricity again. My dad wanted one for our house but there are too many government restrictions.

I think the coolest alternative fuel source I have seen is the usage of ocean waves to power a generator.

yea that was one form that my class did a lot of research about because it is one of the more overlooked forms of energy.

it's actually kind of funny because im in a sticky situation regarding wind energy. they plan on putting tons of windmills out off the shore of two of the most popular beaches on long island, about a mile or something away. the thing is, this would not only create an eyesore and ruin one of the few beautiful things about long island, but it could also potentailly disturb a few things.

putting these giant windmills out in the ocean could and most likely would get rid of large fish communities around the areas which the windmills are placed. the instillation of these large structures would definately disrupt any ocean enviornment. also, the windmills would restrict where boats and fishers could go resulting in decreased fish economy.

i'm not a fisher, nor do i have a boat, but these windmills could also affect something that i take part in - surfing. i'm not sure how much the windmills would actually affect the tides and swells, but i really can't imagine paddling out and seeing tons of 200ft tall structures half a mile away.

for more info regarding the cons of the use of windmills in the ocean, visit www.savejonesbeach.org

of course the other side is the multiple positive results from wind energy, but i really do feel that these windmills could be placed somewhere else where there would be much less of a debate about them.

and they are really expensive to put up and maintain. I am all for alternative sources of energy but they need to make it cheap and reliable.
