Well, I can't speak for MHSSC(from what I hear they run a great camp), but we at Ohio Dreams are prepared to help you progress as much as you are willing to progress. What I mean, is that every camp out there can help you progress, but at the end of the day you are going to get out of the camp and coaching what you put in to it. The best coaches and facilities in the world won't make any difference if you are not willing to push yourself, work hard, have fun and follow the coaches instructions.
That being said, Ohio Dreams has the facilities and coaches necessary to help you learn any trick you are interested in. We have had kids come to camp that are just learning how to do 360's and we have had others that are learning unnatural doubles and are working on triples. All of them have had a great time and have left camp with skills and tricks that they didn't have before. You can go all out and train for skiing 8 hours a day if you like, or you can just go to morning instruction and do what ever you like for the rest of the day. It's a relaxed, flexible atmosphere that can be catered to fit your goals and provide as much fun as possible.
A big advantage that Ohio Dreams has over other camps when it comes to progression, is the number of bounces/jumps/hits that you will throughout the course of a week. We run less campers per session than just about all of the other ski camps which means that the rails, tramp and ramps never have a long wait or line to hit them. With 1 jump on the water ramps every 7-10 minutes (or as fast as you can walk up the stairs), 1 jib on the rail and box setup every 2-3 minutes (or as fast as you can hike) and 1 bounce on the in ground Olympic trampoline every 1-2 seconds, you are going to get a LOT of reps throughout the course of a 6 day session. More reps means more attempts, more air awareness, more balance, more progression and of course more fun.
When it comes to coaches, we have some of the best around. The two primary coaches are Brendan and Chris. While these two may not have the name recognition of your favorite pro, they know what they are doing when it comes to coaching freeride skiers. Some of the top up and coming skiers in the industry choose Ohio Dreams for their summer skiing and training. Nick Goepper has been coming to O.D. for 3 years, Chris Laker for 4, and Cody Ling for 2. All three have moved from campers to now being guest pros/coaches. Other guests and notable campers include Spencer Millbocker, Matt Heffernan and Freddy Brideweser.
While we can't personally speak for MHSSC or any other camps, we can promise that you will have a great time and learn some new tricks if you choose to come to Ohio Dreams this summer. If you are set on going to Hood and skiing on snow in the summer, then go to MHSSC. If you want to save some money and have an incredible time while progressing at an awesome summer camp, then sign up for a session at Ohio Dreams. If you have any other questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to send us a PM, give us a call or send us an email. Also, here are a few videos to show you a little bit of what goes on at camp.
