Oh yea and.... fuck windells

Seems like getting a speeding ticket from going 3 miles/hour over the speed limit on the highway.

The driver is faulty for going over the limit but the police officer could have easily let it go.

i just got off the phone like literally 5 minutes ago.... so yes , Tim just wanted ot axe someone . He even sent one of the paid-filmers an email saying that he thought eric was trying to sabataoge some shit and gain too much control ... uhh? Mr. Windell is on crack

dope use of the word reactionary!!!!!!!!!

i get what ur saying though, serious.

just feel shitty for the guys that lost their jobs

it was not clearly stated that they didnt have enough money to provide DVDs for campers, one poster implied this vaguely, and im not by any means calling him a liar, but he also may have been misled by his superior. it sounds like a really shitty situation, but papasteeze is taking a critical eye to the situation from a businessman's standpoint and it seems like everyone else is taking the less mature route. just because friends/ loved ones are involved in an unfavorable circumstance doesnt exactly mean what they received was out of spite, regardless of the reputation of the owner.

apparently this guy knows nothing about business because now kids are going to read this thread and hear about this stuff and not want to go to windells and he looses money in the end.

PR nightmare. Regardless of what actually happened, many people are going to choose to go someplace else after this thread.

I guess this is what happens when you screw with NS.

welll hey if my parents came up to me and said they would send me as an adult camper right now i would go... cause i love skiing in the summer im not even gona lie. but I would also steal enough shit that would equal out to $1800 and therefore not be supporting him

It just sounds like there was not an agreement of terms before anything was done. And because of that, they were fired. It kind of seems like corperate tactics were applied to a seemingly "mom and pop" buisness.

Regardless, Tim has sheisted me over too, and have no doubt that he over-reacted or mishandled this in some way.

Holy fuck I can't wait till the value of the US dollar goes up so that I can go back to Whistler again.

Tim never paid for the cost of making session videos and giving them out to every camper, theres like 200 kids a session, that's alot of money. Eric was selling the first couple of dvd's like I said to gain money to be able to give a session free session dvd's, if you don't know what you're talking about don't post stupid shit, I was an intern who just got caught in the middle of this and am now stranded.

Yeah if the video guy would buy food, drinks, and passes for his interns he wouldn't be so greedy as to try to make a quick buck off session dvd's. It makes a lot of sense that he was just trying to get enough money to make dvd's for all the campers. Tim windell sounds like a douche that wrecks shit when he gets mad.

Yeah dude it's so true Eric wasn't trying to scam anyone, he paid 250 for our passes we had to pay 500 and he isn't even asking for the money back because of how our summers and lives right now got screwed up over this. It's all Tim Windell.

From what I understood:

Owner paid video guy a set amount of money for him to get filming stuff done on the glacier and give dvd of said filming to kids that were to camps.

video guy accepted the set amount of money at first, then realised there wasnt enought money to get the thing done properly and wtried to get a new budget from the owner who said no.

Then video guy wanted to sell some dvd co^py to make up with the extra $$ he needed to get the project done correctly and the owner didnt like that and fired him, along with all the filming crew.

No disrespect intended here, CED, I just thought I would show how easy it is to paint a different picture using the information in your post and only use the supposed facts in your post by removing the embellishments and heresay.

I think they call this spin..

Owner agreed to pay video guy for filming to include providing free dvd's of said filming to kids that

were at the camp.

Video guy accepted the original terms, then later, after arriving on site, asked for more money to fulfill agreement of DVD's for each camper from the owner who then, said no.

Video guy then sells dvd copies to campers and the owner subsequently then fires him.

just read this whole thread, tim sounds llike your average american man, who was introduced to lots of money, sounds like he started to lose his begginings ideas, and now money is all that matters

Hey, I'm Dan, the person Adrian referenced in the initial post and who told him about this whole deal in the first place. Let me tell you, in brief, why Tim fired us and scrapped the entire media program for camp.

Tim fired us primarily due to the fact that we were selling hardcopies of the session DVDs to campers. He was under the impression that we planned on taking the profits from the DVDs for our own purposes. Our reason for selling the DVDs was to buy a burning tower and a bunch of blank media so we could provide every Windells camper with a hardcopy of the session DVD and effectively completely provide for a program that Tim backed out on paying for in the spring (he was initially supposed to be paying for DVD authoring costs). We were not planning on taking any of the profits at all, since we were already supposed to be getting paid ($250 a session) for session filming and editing. Tim thought that by selling the DVDs, we were going behind his back and essentially stealing from camp. He decided to scrap everything, the session DVD, camper videos, everything.

Either way, every single person who has come out here to work on the video program, including myself, has already spent a considerable amount of time and money to get out to Hood so that we could go about producing the videos. Tim fired us and, effective immediately, we no longer work for camp and we are now stuck here in Oregon until we can get things figured out with getting home and everything. Otherwise, as session filmers, we are not going to be compensated for the hours of filming, editing, and general hard work we poured into this video to get it out.

In point, this situation is just really sketchy right now. Tim had absolutely no reason to fire us and still has not given us a legitimate reason (other than that he thought we were stealing from camp, which is complete bullshit either way). As it stands, we're stuck in Oregon in a house whose rent expires in 2 weeks and not even a concrete way of getting home before that point. This really is like the worst possible situation that could have gone down.

Eric's not getting compensated for the session DVD program, just for the camper DVDs, which is a program he runs completely out of his own pocket anyways. To say that he should pay for a program that he shouldn't even technically be involved with is absolutely ridiculous.

concerning the post above-----

i am also an intern. Eric sold the videos because thats usually what he does. he makes a session video, premiers it and then sells it so he can use that money for upgrades ( he makes next to nothing off selling them in the first place). What happened this year is that Tim Windell wanted to set it up so that every camper got a session video for free. problem is that once Eric brought him the new budget to include the DVDs to be sent to every kid, he denied the move for it becuase there wasnt enough money for it to happen. So clearly Eric kept doing what he has done in past years.

I dont know what kind of job you work but job and life are 2 different things. If Eric wants to spend money on beer for us and food then thats his choice as a awesome gesture to us as guests. It is something he doesnt need to do but does out of kindness. Tim dropped the program becuase of a bunch of misunderstandings on his part, lack of money for the program and becuase he can now lurk around, find other random amateur filmers to make crappy webisodes and so on and actually think it will benefit his camp. If anyone doesnt realiee this already, windells has NO coverage anywhere. this year they made a big step by placing adds on tws.com thats about as good as theyve done.

^^^^ yeah just be dicks, like print out that story and slide it under the door of every motel room at the arc and do shit like that. And papasteeze stop being so one sided towards windells, have u not read the first hand accounts of the people that were fired?

YAY the truth comes out. TIM IS AN ASS HOLE!!! I am so happy that I didnt go to windells this summer even though as the summer goes on the park will be ridiclous because of the amount of snow they got. As for the campers in the first session it seems like It is not tims fault the park got barried in 3ft of snow and the Weather not Tim fucked up

Exactly, DVDs were sold in exactly this same way last year and Tim didn't even give it a second thought. But, this year we do the same thing to reinvest the money and further the program and he flips out and fires us, as well as refusing to compensate us for the work we've already done?

That's poor business practice, and really poor etiquette as far as being a boss is concerned.

I just scoured the Windells website and I could not find anywhere, anything about a free video to be provided to the camper.

This seems to me as an awesome benefit to the camper that would have/should have been advertised, yet that is missing...

Yeah, well it wasn't actually supposed to wind up happening after Tim backed out. We wanted to do it to generate a greater return number of campers and be known as the ONLY camp at Hood to actually produce a full length, high quality video documenting what went on at camp during the session.

Fyi, there's no more session video at all now. Tim only wants mini edits for the web....

So as for right nowthe only one who isnt screwed is the owner since the campers wont have dvd,the video guy andgot fired and there are a bunch of interns with no way back home.

My guess is there wont be any problems with returning consumer since there wont be that much after all of this.

I still think the video guy should have made sure he had approbation beore putting everyones job on the line and if everyone backed him up well they agreed to take the chance of loosing this job. That being said I think the owner overreacted a "littel"....

so someone wnt to tell me why eric would rather sell 6 copies of session videos for 15 a piece and make jack crap for money over selling 135 of them to tim for who cares even less lets say $5 a piece and making more? this is not the case. You have been lied to or misinformed. whatever the agreement was there was misunderstanding with it. and obviously eric would rather more money then less? right? or would he just piss off tim like that for fun? doubt it. meet eric in person and then you can talk. hes not like that. hes takes plenty of stuff from tim and delt with it

eric puts alot of effort into this job. its an all week long hours job and he gets paid very low for his hard work. He said it himself hed make more money working at the brew pub. just goes to show his character and how he really loved his work....and tim just didnt realize it i guess

Ok I am confused. You travel out there on your own dime, stayed with this cat Eric he pays for different stuff for you guys and you got $250 per week from whom for doing what?

Where can I see what you guys did last year?

They are young people who have invested thousands of dollars into filming snowboarding. Go look at the videos from each session last year. I'm pretty sure the interns made that along with Eric. I could be wrong though.

So they also lost their pass to the park? What, are they handed out each morning or something?

So windells lost editors and filmers for thier session edits? DIdn't I read somewhere where Eric bought the passes? Why wouldn't they still be good?

first of all filmers have never bene payed before that is new to this summer...

and we are assigned to individual campers , usually one or two per session and have to create a session dvd that documents their experience in around 10 minutes. that means hiking around and being a kids personal film bitch most of the day . and then we can get to ride a bit later on. We work out what type of music , style , etc the kid wants. A couple months later they get a dvd in the mail

other filmers are in charge of just the session dvd

and no you cant watch the session dvd's online or cmaper videos but heres example of some of thes tuff we filmed from last year
=related

That is a freakin super sick perk/benefit of going to camp and worth a lot of money in itself!

Why isn't that service listed on the Windells website?

You did that for the kids free of charge in the previous years with out getting paid? Then this year, you were getting paid, plus your boss needed to charge Windells more for the DVD service yet didn't in the past? Who paid you, Windells or Eric?

I am really confused.

i know other interns last year did this too - i ended up unofficially coaching full time too for at least 2 of the sessions and didnt get any credit for. I didnt expect to but it was a lot of work as well as fun. teaching a small group of groms 3s , 270s, boosting in the pipe... and filming and hiking with them at the same time, carrying a 20 pound tripod and 30 pound camera bag and having the responsibility of bringing them down to the buses at the end of the day

^^^They do send something that says stuff about a dvd but it's like $200 extra or something.

dude that sucks

its funny how just yesterday i told a friend he shoul go to momentum again instead of windells and then i see this thread. i hope he doesnt get fucked like the ones that went on session1

I'm really sorry for everyone who's summer and camp/work experience was effected so negatively. It is an awful thing to have your financial security swept out from underneath, particularly in this instance where so much confusion and frustration is present.

That being said, there are two distinct issues being discussed in this thread that are becoming blurred into one big mess. Initially, this thread was about filmers losing their job for perceived illegitimate reasons. This parlayed into the issue of the first session campers' dissatisfaction with weather, lack of a private park, etc. The second issue is essentially being used by some as an example of Tim's selfishness and general shady business practice. I've never been to Windell's and know little about it. I've never met Tim and for all I know he is a flaming deusche bag. True or not, it's clear that this isn't nearly as simple as Tim simply deciding to fuck over a bunch of people and the fact that Session 1 was a shit show, has no bearing on the filming issue.

I've been a little annoyed by Papasteeze's seeming attempts to minimize this issue and write it off as well. That being said, he and others who have refrained from the out and out Tim bashing, have made good points.

Clearly Eric and Tim had a discussion/agreement (should have been a formal contract if it wasn't) around the camper's dvds. From what's been posted, Tim stated his desire to purchase the dvd's, or in essence, provide them to the campers "free". All that should have meant is that Eric would be paid directly by Tim for the filiming and production, as opposed to being paid by individual campers. This is known as subcontracting and is done in every business, particularly construction (i.e. a Builder (Tim) is paid by a home buyer (camper) to build a house. The builder reaches out to a trade specific contractor such as an electrician (Eric) (who may have a number of employees) to perform a specific job (film and produce dvds). The electrician doesn't bill the home buyer, in fact he has no business with the home buyer as he is employed by the builder. The builder includes the price of the electrician's materials and labor (pre arranged between the two) in the total price of the home. ($1800)). If Eric felt that Tim's offer wasn't sufficient to cover costs and to match his anticipated profits, he never should have agreed. The solution is definitely not to roll the cost back to the camper. That's like a bank teller shorting you, robbing the bank for what your'e owed, and then justifying your means by the ends. Eric charging individual campers is basically double charging. I appreciate that Eric is a good dude and intended to reinvest for the greater good, but you can't simply change the terms of an agreement...especially if you don't run the show.
