Seems straight foward, if he sold videos that were to be given to campers free, I would fire your ass also. Trying to make extra profit? this is a business I don't care how cool that person is. Parents are expecting a free video, what do you think will happen when a whole bunch of snot nosed kids tell their parents they had to buy the video that should've been free?
 
Look guys, I'm one of the interns, this story is completely true, I don't even ski, I was linked to this post from a snowboarding forum, all you people posting like this isn't the correct story, you guys really have no fucking clue. I've been here for a week spent tons of cash to get out here, I am an intern, the job we do, Tim Windell pays for nothing, he makes profit off of the camper videos we do, while we live at Eric's house and Eric pays for our passes, not Tim Windell, on the other hand, Tim Windell told Eric he wanted the session video to go home free with every camper, and Eric told Tim an estimated budget that would cover the DVD's and once he had told Tim that, Tim had said nevermind. So Eric made about 8 COPIES, that is it, for session 1 to sell, to gain money to be able to mass produce the session videos to give out to every camper for session 2 or 3, that was the plan. That is why he was selling them, Tim then fired Eric because of that, which he had no reason to, Eric is a completley honest, and extremely respectable person, he was doing this out of his own good, the guy could making plenty more money working another job, but he choses to do the video intern thing to give people like me an oppurtunity to come out and ride Windells for a summer. Tim Windell in my eyes is a unrespectable fat piece of shit. He doesn't care about anyone, and as stated before, he will fire you on the spot for no reason if he is pissed off just because he knows he can get someone else to do the job, it is FUCKING SUMMER CAMP after all. But on the real note, the story posted is the truth, it seemed as Tim just had something against Eric so he fired him, I had introduced my self to him 30 seconds prior to losing my job under Eric, and he did not give a fuck, I've come from Rhode Island to Mt. Hood, been here for about week dropped well over a grand and now I am stranded with no job in Oregon. Tim doesn't care I will never tell anyone to go to Windells ever in my life again especially after experiencing and meeting this douchebag. The video packages I intern for actually get people to be frequent campers for example my camper I filmed this session ( session 1 ) said he was coming back because he liked the fact he could ride summer camp and get filmed on his progression at a summer camp. Tim also didn't push the crew on the hill to do anything, these session 1 campers didn't even get to ride Windells, they rode public park and missed 3 days of there session. On one of the off days they got 10 dollars to a thrift store and a trip to a muesem in comepensation, how fucking retarted is that. All I have to say is do not go to Windells if you have any common sense what so ever and have read this thread, what you are reading is a completley unbiased post coming from a kid who has been at Windells for a week, met Tim Windell and has known Eric the video dude for a week.
 
Damn that is absolutely ridiculous to hear. Sounds like a really schiesty situation up there.

unfortunately that is how the world works. there are some jobs where the people who run them feel like you should feel privileged to work there. ive worked at one before, my mom works at one now, and if they can make you feel that way they can make you do what they want, when they want and if you dont they will fire you becuase there are other people to do your job and do it cheaper. thats why lots of people are miserable at their jobs. Im just sorry it had to happen at a summer ski camp.

hope all you kids remember this, because some day some of you will be in charge of company's and in charge of making as much money for the company, whether it is yours or not, and you have a choice to fire people for no reason for the bottom line of the most profit. just hope you can make the right choice when it is your time.
 
yeah i hate jobs where you like your job, but they are constantly reminding you how lucky you are and how there are people lined up to take your place...
 
Wow, i feel for you man. Every camp does it, session 1 always nothing is set up and all the camps are just like "awww its chill well just start setting everything up the day sesh 1 gets here, and by the time they leave it will all be ready to go...." sooooo lame, fuck that, but every camp does it

yeah but last time I checked places like Momentum COC and High North allways had their own park up by first session, maybe not the big jump but still some decent jumps and rails.
 
to not have a park up first session is terrible, considering there is nothing to do there but ski and skate,
Tim has always been known for this , he is known for just axing people when they make him mad, its his business, and he can go out of business i this keeps up, emplaoes is one thing but to not provide what you advertise to campers is a shame, I feel bad for all the session 1 campers,
plus whats with this, 10 dollars to a thrift store, are you serious , what did the kids buy a coffee maker,
 
damn, so the guy that posted the whole story, hats off and all that for digging up truth, thats a good explanation of whats happened. i'm sorry to hear that your frriends got cuaght up in the doings of a company on the verge of sale and are now fucked. as for the banning of your friends to the guy that posted, i think thats a pretty brittle reaction from the camp owner or whoever is in charge of managing the employees. but you never know. that might of been a heat of the moment type reaction to some situation such as, "wtf, im loosing my job in june, with no notice? thats fucked up mr. windells owner, wow give me some notice" or any other conversative response gone astray. and just to spite them for not being humbly discharged from that crackin summer job, which is really fucked up. owner tells them they're not allowed back (on his way out the door). could definitely see that happening. but that may not necessarily have been the case but its definitely reasonable to think, deifnitely not justified lulz, guys an asshoole got to be, got to be. is this the same guy that when i was poachin the windells park, he yelled and screamed and threw shuvles and me and my buddies yelling "YOU'RE A LIABILITY MAAAANNNNN" lol aaaanyways

if thats also correct that the owner is in motion to sell. he should be stoned in public, no joke, or maybe up on the public park drop que, lol nevertheless, not just cuz it's very selfish thing to do around a sport like skiing, shits sacred like family and what not, you guys know. and to just up and move towards sale of the camp, thats a lot of people and kids ESPECIALLY riding on you, and wanting the same experience kids before them had and obviously they do if they wanna keep coming back, that dubious shit drains hella confidence in people wanting to come there for fun as well as the people standing next to the owner in staff. it's too bad what people will do to pad the pockets to make a company worth an extra 100 grand or ANY EXTRA AMOUNT for themselves when it comes time to sell, while he's apparently severing all friendships with faculty and staff and their own morals that obviously stood up for hella long and made windells as exciting for kids to be a part of it as it is / wassss. i would bet to say that guy isn't opening up another ski camp. and what the fucks MTV want with windells? bug juice: windells? oh god nooo
 
$1800 to ski session one without a private park and to only get 3 days in? That is straight up fraud and everyone should be reimbursed. $10 to a thrift store and museum entry? what the fuck. $1800 is a lot money, that would pay for my entire winter season, with season passes, gas, food, and I'd still probably have money to spare. Personally I think people are just too damn desperate to ski during the summer. Get out of the northern hemisphere is you need to ski. For that much you could spend two weeks, maybe longer, in Chile or Argentina skiing on real snow rather than slush.
 
Okay.. I think I got the summary now.

Windells was paying someone to make movies to be given to campers. That movie maker couldn't come to terms with the camp and proceeded to work under their own terms and not the camps.

The Camp got pissed and told the movie maker to leave. Crew that worked for movie maker is now out of the job. hmmmmmm..... Sounds more to me that the movie maker let his crew down by not reaching an agreement. But hey, that is a detached observation from the outside looking in.

 
most people aren't going to steal, and I've had a boss who fired someone and gave them an extra week of work so the employee could get some cash and use it for whatever was next...that seems like the exception to the rule though
 
dude for real? im not going to say that you're clueless about the world... but im sure you can imagine the recommendation your boss with give you if you just up and quit, which you surely can do here in america. it'd probably be about the same as if he'd fired you himself.

The intern from snowperception guy said that they wern't given enough money to produce dvd's for all the campers. They were trying to sell copies so they could afford to give away dvd's for the campers in the next session's. When the main video guy went to the windell's owner with a budget so they could afford to mass produce dvd's for all the campers in every session the windell's owner brushed him off and said whatever.

It doesn't seem at all like the movie maker guy was trying to make a profit because the intern said all the interns would stay with the movie maker guy and he would take them to timberline.

This makes sense they were fired because people are saying the windell's owner is notorious for getting mad and then doing stupid shit i.e. firing the movie makers.
 
So for campers, the moral of the story is to avoid session 1 at camps if possible. are session 1 prices cheaper?
 
I'm hearing different stories. I've heard that this is something between Eric and Tim. Eric couldn't live up to his his side of the agreement with camp and Tim let him go.

I've also heard that Tim is looking to find veteran filmers who've worked with him in the past to run the show. If thats the case, if I was one of the filmers, I would take a deep breath, realize I got caught in the middle of something that really sucks and figure out if it's more important to me to work in Hood this summer or continue to write diatribes about Tim.
 
yah but what about the other issue of kids getting totally gayed out of a ton of money during session 1 that a lot of people probably worked way too hard to make. i know if that happened to me i would be ripshit beyond belief thats a ton of money for a kid
 
I've talked to some friends of mine who were there this session. I don't know if any of you have ever been to Mt. Hood in June, but the weather can suck. 60-70mph winds in a snowstorm can bury a park overnight. It sounds like the cat drivers dug the park out three times, but the weather wouldn't cooperate.

It totally sucks, but as skiers, we're at the mercy of the weather. Hopefully the kids had fun on the lower, public park and Windells can find a way to make it up to them.

I'm sorry, Business 101... Don't start work without an agreement. 10 out of 10 times that I have let organizations go in my place of work, it has been for non performance of the agreement. I don't hire anyone with out an agreed upon scope of the work. I am thinking that Windells wanted what was done in previous years and thought that was what they were getting? yes, no?

Windells is a business and this whole circumstance is very unfortunate for all parties involved. You have to be hired in order to be fired. It sounds to me that there was no previously arranged agreement other than what was done previous years. I speculated early in this thread about presumptive entitlement...

 
Rob you need to stop being so one sided about this. It is clear that the movie crew was not given enough money to get dvds to every camper, they tried to sell some copyies to make it so they could give others away. And mr. Windell being the dickface he is decides to fire them.

And how would you like it if you paid $1800 of your hard earned money plus plane tickets to send your little bundle of joy off to Windells and it turns out he only got to ski for half the time and the time he did get to ski he had to ski the public park with everyone else instead of getting to ski the private park that you paid for?
 
They mentionned that the video guy talked with the owner and the owner saw the budget (wich I would assume had the money made buy selling the 8 copies aty 15$). The owner said he didnt mind and the video guy proceeded to make teh 8 cppies to sell since the owner said he didnt mind.

Now here is where stuff goes wrong but nefore saying it someones fault we need more infos.

first thing: Did the video guy mentionned the sale of the 8 copies in his budget he proposed to the owner?

second thing: Did the owner really read the budget before saying he would mind?

If the answer to both questions is yes then the owner definatly screwed them over.

If the answer to the first is yes and second is no then the owner made a stupid move and he's still faulty.

Then if the answer to the first question is no then the movie maker guy is in fault.

It's a shtty situation for everyone involved anyway but I believe we would need more infos in order to take a side.
 
PLEASE everyone who reads this, this should be an example of a life lesson. I am not one sided about this at all. It would be too easy for me to jump on bashing Windells, if for no other reason I love Whistler camps and am very biased towards them. There was obviously a huge misunderstanding on both parties and I see them both to blame for not working out differences.

The life lesson?

Agree to a price before the work commences. not during or certainly, not after.

BTW - Hasn't new opportunities potentially now opened up? IN other words, might the next filmer offer something more?

I am not addressing the public vs private park cause often nips only gets a day or 2 per week at COC due to weather conditions. Plus week one is $400 less at Windells? Is that true? for what reason is it less?

 
Yo PAPASTEEZ, with all due respect, i understand your trying to get to the truth, but please dont rule out the fact that sometimes employers can be straight up dicks and fire people for bullshit reasons / be completely in the wrong.

And to the guys that lost their jobs and are now left stranded, i feel for you, and if you know that this Tim guy was in the wrong then fuck what all these people say, like 'there must be more to the story', u guys know what really happened. but yea, like the quoted post says, unfortunately there isnt much u can do about it - that's how the world works.

i once lost my job for a bullshit reason and 'knew' i wasn't in the wrong but i had to deal with it.

sometimes employers are dicks and its great there are forums like this to let people know about it, even if it wont get u ur job back. and as for deleting this thread? c'mon papasteez, your apology maybe??
 
Since I have friend on the video crew, who is now without a job, I've talked to independent sources--former employees who know and have talked with Eric and Tim recently--to find out more about what's going on.

Tim agreed to buy every camper a video, therefore there was no need and no point to sell the videos. Eric agreed months ago to do that work for that amount of money. Later, after making the agreement, Eric wanted to renegotiate. Tim disagreed. Eric then proceeded to sell the videos, which Tim had purchased for each camper. Eric got fired. The video crew got caught in the middle.

I think there could be a solution that would make a lot of people happy. But it needs to start with calming down and understanding where the other side is coming from.

 
I stated a potential deletion as a knee jerk reaction to a poor post missing a lot of information and yes and APOLOGY is in order - I apologize for being way too reactionary. ON the other hand its easy to get people riled up by using the psychology of message board behaviors by threatening lame stuff like deletion of a controversial thread.

You have to read all my posts to understand, but I actually like this drama in the summer time. Iwas eating popcorn last night hitting the refresh button! I know, I'm a sicko! hahahaha

 
nah not really man... it's pretty straight forward. Tim doesn't give a fuck about his employees. Do you have any idea how little coaches are payed? And how shitty THE ARC is ? tim drove me home one night in his A6 or whatever with a fat bottle of chardonay and some blond bitch.... he's obviously making bank of other peoples hard work.

and yea, eric messed up by disobeying his 'orders' but to fire him over something that trivial is fucking ridiculous. Campers with mommy and daddys bank account didnt know the difference anyways between free session dvds and $15....

Eric was straight up one of hte chillest and most generous guy you'll ever meet. He bought us interns tickets, booze, food all summer , let us ride a ton and at the end of the day he doesn't make anything. It's not just like he can just go down to Rhodeondron and find another job.... i dont know what he is going to do now

If this Eric guy can buy guys food, booze, and lift tickets all summer why couldn't he afford to throw down for the camper dvds

8 DVDs X 15 copies = $120 was it really that bad?

 
well interns have to pay for their passes.... which is like 700+ but i was stuck without one for a while and he spotted me

food and booze are just things you need to live, film and shred . we eat dinner and breakfast at windells most of the time anyways so that takes a lot of the cost off
