I was just over at my friends house blowing up firworks dualing with those little cap guns on his tramp. We must have pissed someone off, though, because FOUR cop cars and six officers blocked off our street, guns drawn, and made us drop the guns and put our hands up. Holy fucking shit!!!

*shakes his head*...maybe some old lady heard the guns popping and thought they were real..

^there we go... anyway here is the newspaper article too

Police armed with an assault rifle and handguns, acting on reports of a man 'waving a gun' near the Aspen Saturday Market, apprehended four teenagers playing with realistic-looking pellet guns.

No one was injured in the incident, but 'it did create a pretty serious stir,' said Sgt. Bill Linn of the Aspen Police Department.

A bystander called dispatchers around 3 p.m. Saturday to report someone 'waving a gun around and pointing it at people' at the corner of Hunter Street and Hyman Avenue, not far from the crowd that typically gathers for the Saturday market.

'The person that called it in ... thought it was maybe a drug deal gone wrong,' Linn said. 'He saw people pointing guns at each other and yelling things at each other like they were really going to be shooting each other.'

Three Aspen officers and two Pitkin County Sheriff's deputies responded, Linn said. They spotted a suspect and his weapon shortly after surrounding the dirt parking lot at the corner of Hunter and Hyman.

'When officers pulled up, one of the officers actually saw a young man fitting the description waving a gun and pointing it at some other people, and we responded in force,' Linn said.

Officers rushed two vehicles, a red Jeep Wrangler and a green Ford Ranger pickup.

Four people were forced out of the vehicles at gunpoint, 'which is absolutely normal policy for people who are armed,' Linn said. Two suspects were handcuffed.

Police were then able to get a closer look at the suspects and their weapons, Linn said.

'We learned that they were all about the age of 16, and they were playing with toy guns,' he said.

Officers verified that the three confiscated guns were, in fact, pellet guns, though they 'are very, very realistic looking,' Linn said.

The four teens - a 15-year-old girl, a 15-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys - seemed genuinely surprised by the fuss they caused, Linn said.

'The story, as they told it, is that they weren't intending to freak everyone else out. They were playing among themselves, and not paying attention' to how it affected passers-by, Linn continued.

One of the boys said he eventually saw someone using a police radio and 'got concerned that they were attracting more attention than they intended,' Linn said. By then, it was too late - police had surrounded the juveniles' vehicles.

The girl was released shortly after the incident was resolved 'because we did not believe she had any involvement at all,' Linn said. The boys were released to their parents after a lecture from police.

The teens - all Roaring Fork Valley residents - will find out if they face criminal charges later this week. The local district attorney reviews all cases involving juveniles to see if prosecution is warranted, Linn said.

Police aren't sure if the three boys will face a judge in the near future because no physical damage was done.

'Just psychological, a lot of stress,' Linn said.

Officers hope local youth - especially the four teens - will learn a lesson from Saturday's scare.

'If they want to play, there's a time and place for that,' Linn said. 'But doing it in public, with realistic-looking guns, is not the place for it.'

My friend said fuck in context to a sentence, and a policeman around the corner heard us. Similar to the above story, the cop gave us a bout a 10 minute discusion on cuss words and that we should use nicer words.

This one time we were at your skatepark filming or something and we had an airsoft gun and some lady called the cops and we got surrouned by 5 cops it was funny. THey didnt think to much of it though.

You gotta think about it from there perspective.

You get a report of 2 guys holding guns with loud explosions.

What the fuck are you gonna do? strol up there on your own and speak to 2 people possible shooting at each other and there might be a possiblity of them shooting you?

NO.

You get all your buddies with all their guns and you our number them to get the control on your side?????????

^Exactly what i was about to say. If you saw a guy on the street from far with an airsoft that looks like the real thing you'll feel that your life is endangered and in most cases you'll call the cops. I will agree though that sometimes they can be a bit harsh for example when that kid with the water gun got shot.

Ok, obviously they're gonna check it out if you have what looks like a real gun...but SWEARING? since when is it against the law to swear? At that point, the most appropriate and ironic thing you can do is to tell the cop to go fuck himself. Why should you give someone like that respect? Because they wear a uniform? Hell no. Tell them to go to hell. I've done so several times when they were being assholes and knew I hadn't done anything. but largely the cops around here are pretty good people, and not powerhungry.

JD.May,

That unfortunately is incorrect, and as such can lead to criminal charges.

It is Illegal to swear in public.

This breaches several sections of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Section 175 article A(i) - Causing disturbance.

Section 180 article 1a - Common Nuisance.

Section 31 - Breach of Peace.

Section 256 article 1b - Assault.

Section 270 article 1 - Assaulting a Peace officer.

And if any derogatory or inciteful statements you might make happen to include the term 'cop, pig, etc.' you can also be charged under

Section 319 articles 1(inclusive) and 2 -willfull incitement of Hatred.

There are I am sure still a few sections under which you can be charged for both swearing in public and swearing at a police officer. I did not bother to research this, I simply know these ones. (so if I have mislabeled any article or section I appologize).

But if you would like I do believe you can order a copy of the criminal code for free..

When interacting with a peace officer of any form, the best approach is to be quiet, listen carefully and agree.

yea, whenever cops give me shit i just smile and say 'yes'

AP) -- Women who perform the act of fellatio and swallow semen on a regular basis, one to two times a week, may reduce their risk of breast cancer by up to 40 percent, a North Carolina State University study found.

Citing any of those charges would be a misapplication of their intent (although I'm not sure of the wording on common nuisance). Assault is the threat of physical harm towards someone, swearing at them doesn't constitute a threat. Sure, they could arrest you for it if they wanted to, but they'd risk suspension, or at least reprimand, for misuse of the law. Any of those charges are extremely weak in this application.

you guys are calling cops stupid but have oyu read some of the things youre doing that mkae police have stupid reastions? 'I was driving around bumping Pac and waving an airsoft gun in the air' what the fuck? first off its not their fault, what if they say some guy holding a gun to your own head or pointing it at you and said ' nah forget it- its prolly jsut an airsoft' cops wont do 'stupid shit' if you stop being stupid shits!

JD, you are correct that in most circumstances charges would not stem from swearing at a police.

I said that charges 'could' be laid.

It would not set a precident though.

I don't know about Canada, but in the U.S. profanity is illegal in public.

Jib_this,

It is not 'legislating morality' laws that cover profane utterings in public do so for common peace. Almost all laws are devised with a basic premise, allow as much freedom as possible without infringing upon another persons right to enjoy their freedoms. That is why there are a lot of laws drafted citing what can or cannot be done in public.

a few years ago in michigan someone was canoeing down a river and they tipped over and started swearing and there was a little kid and it's mom standing on the bank. I guess there was a law that prohibited swearing in front of women and children from a long time ago. After a big lawsuit and stuff I thought the law was repealed.
