I specifically said they joked about em. Not hated. You are so ready to jump and defend "the wu" (lol) that you take my words and place negative connotations on an objective statement. Musicians generally respect each others music, even in the rap game despite people's perception of it. I respect the wu tang clan. I love their music. I just don't think they revolutionized rap...they have their own style, but all rappers have their own style unless they cop someone else's.
These friends of mine, who I resort to for musical advice, are YOUR elders and of the same era of "the wu." They also like the wu-tang clan, but they produced for other record labels and supported other musicians, or themselves, at the time. They are in their late 30s and early 40s. They saw hip hop grow up and were a part of it.
I'm not gonna hijack this thread. Think for yourself, and think what you like. I can't change your subjective opinion of whether or not you 'like' a groups music, but I can bring a perspective on their influence on hip hop sound.
In any case, as far as Odd Future goes, their sound is really young still and they have a bit to work on in terms of production and lyricism (in some cases), but again...they're young and they're going to mature. The hip hop game is gonna change, we saw mac miller, macklemore, and now we see odd future blowing up...I'm loving it. totally different styles, all bringing something new-ish. werd.
