Official X Games Discussion Thread 2015

Fuck yeah I usually like slope and big air more than pipe but damn these guys are throwing down. Rolland's average hit was over 18' out, are you fucking kidding me?

That was in fucking space. I think it was his left wall tricks that kept him off the top though.

Yeah this for sure.

Points in finals like this are basically based on who the judges think should get 1st, 2nd etc.

Agreed! D'Artois' doubles were more tech too!! Rolland's amplitude was nuts.

Damn Gus. I think pressure and fatigue got to him. SICK podium though. Noah should have been up there but I think the right runs podium'd in the right order.

no idea how noahs not on the podium with that run, first ever back to back switch dubs if I'm not mistaken

I'll say it again, grabs and amplitude, mainly grabs.

Looking at it that way I see what you mean. LVV sounded pretty puzzled when Mike A was breaking things down. But like I said earlier they have video review this year, and in the mega mo shots you could see the grabs weren't super locked, and the amplitude up top wasn't huge. But then again David had his fist buried in his knees on his last hit, with an overall sketchy run and got 4th...

That was still the best watch of all 5 ski comps this weekend.

Not exactly skiing related, but definitely x games related...it piqued my curiosity to see Atomic's logo on the skis of the x games snapchat filter. I'd be interested to know how many (if any) other companies tried to get that kind of ad space. I mean they could have done just a skier with black bases, but the fact that Atomic was able to get on there made it seem like snapchat had a more unique/intimate investment in x games and thereby freeskiing, which I thought was cool. Just a thought

I'm assuming since its the first time its ever been done, they just asked who wanted to do it an atomic got first dibs. Snapchat is very new still, companies aren't exactly throwing money at them yet.

progression like noahs switch dubs should score higher then more common dubs that might be grabbed slightly better / a couple feet higher, his other tricks were flossed too. Just my opinion though

To paraphrase:

Jacob Wester: 'we need less rules in comp skiing, but that doesn't mean we can't change the direction it's going in'

Comments/facebook: 'Let's implicate this rule and this rule, and they can't spin more than 540 on one of their hits like in that really euro comp'

It's amazing how little people can read. I pretty much 100% agree with Jacob. Also the format for the big air these days is awesome. 15/20 minute jam, it's so much fun and lends itself to being exciting much more than any other format. With at least 5 hits each session we see the riders relax and try new things, not just adding an extra 180 but starting to do things their own way.

Also the idea that spinning less than 540 = style is just fucking retarded. You end up with a checklist for style, things like 'did he do a just do an octo-grab? that's way more stylish than a safety', that kinda defeats the point. If the judges relax and score based on what they think is cool, also deliberately not rewarding triple 1620's just for being triple 1620s, then we'll see a shift towards style.

Not that new, at all.

Please explain to me how you know about the ins and outs of snapchats business? You don't, i don't but I'm making an educated guess. The first takeovers were this summer and you think that companies are fighting over who gets to be in the snapchat filter?

I don't know many specifics, but I think they're at step 3 of the unbeatable cool tech start-up plan:

I just have a hard time believe ski companies (let me reiterate, ski companies) are fighting for a spot on a filter. Just sayin.

it will be 4 years old this september and its like a $15 billion company, its not really new or small

....

im not talking about snapchat. I'm talking about the filters/takeovers they do.

The US-times fucked me over on the Big Air event.

Does anyone got a stream to the full comp?

I can only find recaps, which sucks.
