Official X Games Discussion Thread 2015

i really wanted to see jesper podium though, he's nuts. his trick before his last trick where he mid air transitioned to real backflips was insane.

Did anyone else notice they had Goepper's face above Vinny's name at the final standings? I'd put a pic up but on mobile

Between the hits taken in both slopestyle and big air, I legitimately thought I was going to watch someone die skiing today.

Holy shit ESPN get your shit together.

Vinnie apparently looks like Goepper, and they fucked up both bronze and silver on the graphic afterwards?

Other then Vinny, Kai and Jossi showing style, that was quite wack. A spin/triple fest that slowly transformed into everybody landing broke. As previously stated above, maybe next time everyone else competing will look at what Vinny did, and perhaps choose to add style rather then another 360 to your own slam.

Vinnie Cash hahahaha yes! You deserve it, and wise thing skipping out, everyone was eating shit trying haynus tricks. Fuck yeah Vinnie

Vinny took Big air in the right direction. Focusing on style instead of triples and shit. Want to see more of that

super stoked for vinny, well deserved. wish there was another gagnier on the come up

He's the youngest of 3 tho. He'll be around for awhile, and I'm sure Charles still will be to.

Now I'm incredibly thirsty to see a slope run that's a combo of Bellemare, ABM, and V$$$ styles and tricks now. That would be soooo tite.

There is a god for the fact that Vinny won. I mean the rest of that comp was a fucking disaster. I'm embarassed to be a newschool skier in todays day and age.

I officially renounce freeskiing. Apparently you turned into ariels so fuck you I'm going back to the old days where shit was rad.

Ambuhl is a fuckboi

I didn't think it was so bad. Jesper was killing it and deserved a podium spot. Certain things looked very hucked and chucked, but I liked Bobby's triples. His don't look as rushed.

Also Jesper's only 122lbs or whatever. I know this feel... How tall is he?

Bishop saying it how it is. I'm honestly so dissapointed in this years X. Stopping doing slope at night which doesn't have flat light landings because they have better ratings when the events aren't all at once (stopped last year but whatever). The bloodbath of an Arials big air, combined with insanely wack slope quali judging and some arguable judging on Jesper in big air just made it official that it was shit this year. Only good things to come of it was vinny cash and the great goodbye to Simon dumont.

But it was the skiers trying to turn it into aerials man, not the judges. The judges were rewarding clean stylish tricks. That's completely a step in the right direction, and something to be proud of.

Also did anybody notice that they said screamin seamen this year? I feel like last year they avoided saying it, or ESPN made them avoid saying it. Or at least they seemed to try to avoid it less.

I think big air would have been a lot better if the more creative guys (Scholpy, Wells, Henrik) were in. It was mostly traditional riders left in the final and it did get a bit stale. I still enjoyed it though. (maybe because I am heavily intoxicated from the big air drinking game)

I agree with you, but I'm more horrified that the athletes have come to this than satisfied that the judges are coming around.

Shouldn't be that way.

Agreed Bishop, it's fascinating that riders are resorting straight to triples. In some regard it seems like the easy way out of progression. Instead of working on the more technical of doubles - dub 7s, dub bio, etc. - that few skiers have locked, they resort to adding rotation to tricks they already have.

I was warned when I first got into this scene in my very first job...working for freestyle canada. One of the guys there (John Pomeroy) always told me that skiers would never be able to hold back from going the same way aerials did.

I think he's right.

Well, I guess it could be an observation lag of coaches and skiers because of what has happened in years past. But if the judges stay on the track they're on, then the future looks bright. I genuinely feel like the judges are trying to follow what we've been asking for years.

Even in slopestyle I think this holds true to an extent. It's pretty hard to argue the cleanliness of the podium'd skier's runs today, even if you don't particularly like the No.1 dude. If there was anybody that had been shafted it was in slope qualifiers. But again, the guys who were qualifying at the top were also the cleanest and most stylish.

Completely agree that we should be proud of the way vinny was judged but at the same time other than his crazy double grabbed, scremen semen no one else could break Into the 40s without doing a triple. Jesper landed a couple sick fully grabbed stylin double and was rewarded with a 36. So although the judges made a couple steps in the right direction we are still very far from what the skiing community and most pros think the sport should head

False. Kai Mahler did opp carve dub 9 and 12. New-ish tricks (only he has done them before) and he did them perfect with style and didn't get rewarded. He also did a switch dub misty 14 dub japan, flawless and was beat by a sw dub cork 14 mute... While style, creativity and non-vertical innovation landed vinnie on top, and rightfully so, style and creativity was not rewarded across the board.
