Biggest robbery in that judging - Jesper

It is because XGames is a tv show it is all about ratings, there is a reason why there are so many snowcross and all that redneck shit on there. Back to the the point no one outside of the ski world knows Jesper they put in people that the public kind of knows that way people are more likely to watch it.

Do we have any update on ABM's knee?

I don't know if anyone else noticed but that fall he took didn't look so good and he looked pretty uncomfortable after.

I hope he's all good!

I don't have any info but that was definitely a nasty looking fall. Scary hyper-extending type fall. Hopefully he's all good!

Who is judging x-games? Do they know that nosebutter is harder than taking off as usual? Do they know that unnatty spins is harder? Do they know that oscar wester combines these two things? Does ANYONE know if some one else is doing unnatty nosebutter dub cork 12?

Wester and Braaten really deserved higher scores. TV definitely plays a role in the scoring, having Tom and Joss in the finals definitely brings in more viewers, i wouldnt be surprised if the judges take that into play. maybe i'm wrong, but it sure seemed like it.

regardless, so pumped for tom.

It's a business.

Jesper did right 2 into the first wall and then right 2 transfer onto the second rail. Bit of repetition but i understand the transfer aspect. I still think he got robbed because that underflip and dub 16 were perfect, definitely should've been higher than bobby or joss.

Also, Oscar got robbed hard asawell as Evan McEachran.

If ABM is injured Nick will take his spot, should be interesting finals.

Stoked for Wally and Henrik.

For sure true for Joss. He might be the only name people outside of freeskiing recognize as a result of his Olympic gold. This is kind of huge for viewership to have him in finals. If the media/sponsors/event organizers could turn him into another White they'd jump all over that. The amount of money a name like that brings in is phenomenal

Judging was so shitty. Evan Mceachran's run was honestly so sick, and to be scored lower than guys who screwed up every single landing? Insanity

Dammit Ferguson, why you have to fall on the last hit? That was shaping up to be an awsome run.

I honestly thought the judging was pretty on point, a lot better than usual.. I would not have picked a different podium. Bellemare's runs were super fun to watch along with Wallich's. I loved Jesper's as well, it was really unique. I found the "deposit" and "down payment" shit really obnoxious haha I guess its just too simple to call them the first and second jumps?

I'm so sick of watching dub 12 blunts, 2pretz2, and 3s on to the walls. The intense critical judging is scaring off the riders from trying different tricks and it's getting boring to watch. Honestly, at times I forget who I'm even watching halfway into the run because they are loosing their unique sense of style and tricks.

I mean seriously!!!! I just watched some of the most technical riders ski for 1 goddamn hour and I saw 5 different grabs!!! Besides spinning on and off I saw like 4 unique rail tricks!!! They even kept hitting the same damn rails!!! And they are all the same fucking down rail. In the whole hour, I only saw Evan hit a kink in a rail and it was once. Even one of the most innovative and creative skiers (henrik) was loosing his ability to stand out. If you put every rider in the same exact same look (completely blacked out suit and skis(no dreadlocks also)) the only thing that could help you pick out henrik is his nose butter. Besides that, he did nothing special.

Really disappointed. Same exact course as last year. Judging sucked.

DANNY DAVIS DOES IT AGAIN!!!! Haha, fuck shaun white.

As an avid snowboarder I can say that the pipe competition was one of the best ever and here's why.

1 ben and Gabe Ferguson were in it.

2 Gabe made finals.

3 ayumu hirano stomped the fuck out of that dub 1440 (he's the future).

4 Shaun white was not a competitive pretensious douche like he normally is (at one point he let his pure enemy louie Vito smell his hair and joke about it).

5 Danny davis (nuff said)

who cares ( i didnt read any of this thread at all) B Fish will win the X games. period. end of thread.

I'm sorry to inform you that b fish was not at the competition due to the fact that he was not able to read his invitation.

I like the message the judge sent today. You had to be perfect, emphasis was on the whole run, not so much one banger trick. The way joss Christensen skis slope courses is what they are looking for, example: park city last yr. giving wallisch top spot with the same dub12, and matching dub rodeo's he's done for the last 4 years was a little excessive... but overall I liked how it ended up, sucked to see Oscar and jesper get snipped. Judges made it clear that it's slopestyle, not big air. Sent the message that you cant be dropping bigger tricks in slope, until they're controlled and w/ style.... slope comps need to be judged this way or else we aren't gonna have slope comps much longer. interested to see how finals play out.

To be fair, I have such a hard time understanding snowboard tricks. It's so easy in skiing to tell when someone is skiing switch but I can never remember which tricks are switch in snowboarding. It also really annoys me that almost everyone in snowboarding does one straight air in their run. Is that a rule? You never see anyone doing a straight air in skiing.

idk if it's a rule at x but at a/some contest(s) that has definitely been a rule before. i think it's sorta a cool idea.

hey, people talking about davis winning pipe, do you mean snowboard pipe FINALS already happened? just elims right? also if anyone knows where to see davis' run id love to see it, ive heard lots of good things

thanks

Last night was SNB pipe elims, then some snowmobile shit, and then SNB pipe finals. Here's Danny's run.

Eh, I could take or leave Oystein's run for finals, he was legitimately a bubble guy so can't complain too much about that. I think Jesper's run was underscored by somewhere in the vicinity of 10 points and McRae's was too good to send him home.

Also agree with "where the F does Joss pull that score out of" discussion.

Re-watching it, I have to say I don't think it's possible to agree with someone more than I agree with Jacob Wester about this. Especially the bolded.

"After over 10 years on the contest scene, I have gotten to know the judges at different events, and I usually have a pretty good hunch of what score is going to drop, so for fun and games I always try to call the scores before they go up on the board. Yesterday, I was on a few occasions off by 20 points. Yes, twenty points. A discrepancy of 5 points is usually understandable, since everyone have different tastes, and there’s no objective way to judge the “style” aspect of the sport, but as the night went on, I was blown away by some of the seemingly insane decisions that were taken, especially the ones in favor of well-established, predominantly North American skiers, to the expense of lesser known up-and-comers that would put down podium-worthy runs. Many times, judges seem to overlook subtleties and nuances in tricks, such as grab/spin combos that are harder than others, unique axes, and left/right spinning on rails. Instead, points are deducted for the most minor mistakes, which I believe could deter many athletes from experimenting with unconventional tricks, and instead stick to the “safe” formula."

Should be in finals: Jesper Tjader, McRae Williams

Shouldn't be in finals: Bobby Brown, Gus Kenworthy (Bobby overscored, Gus bumped off the bubble).

So the winning run has only 1 dub, some ungrabbed tricks, a 7 and a method?

Sounds weak to me... Oo

Y'all though ski judging was weird/stupid, snowboarders do straight airs and hand drags and get 100s (shaun white)

Gus got smoked by the sign, how is he still in finals? I thought his day was for sure over.

The judging trend in both ski and snowboard is moving towards style dominating. And this all because of you fucking kids whining about people throwing hucked doubles and shit. Seriously NS is the most fucked up group of people sometimes. You bitch for years and years that style is never a factor in competitions, and when the judges finally start listening to the people you bitch that the easier runs that are cleaner and have "more style" beat out the technical runs that have minor bobbles. Incredible.

Danny fucking killed it, end of story. That was one of the smoothest pipe runs ever, look at his landings. Obviously his focus was on style, and he fucking nailed it. His switch method is insane, nobody else can do that. His cab 10 wasn't ungrabbed either, he just let go early. Had he held the grab we would have seen a score of 95+, that was the exact kind of run judges are looking for this year.

In ski slope, the top scores went to the guys who slid every rail right to the end cleanly and had no bobbles in their runs. Sure there were a ton of technical runs that got way underscored but if you watch the runs they all had a major error which got docked heavily by the judges. Coming off rails early and touching a hand on landings pretty much fucks your whole run. And this is what you all wanted... The only majorly underscored run in my mind was Jesper. Every other score makes sense when you realize what the judges want.

Yes, well, in the case of Snowboard pipe, I think it's a pretty clear instance of someone winning a TV show rather than winning a halfpipe competition.

How is it possible you're coming to this conclusion? The only way I can see you determining that this is the case is if you've confused "style" with "no errors or bobbles whatsoever". These are not the same thing.

Technical runs from Compbot 3000s still win these things. They just have to be mistake-free, too.

ABM and Joss's sw doubles on the second booter were things of beauty.

Wish Tom Whalefish would get some new dubs.. hopefully with more wobble than rodeo like ABM and Joss.

he does have his run on lock though which is nice.

Am I the only one that can't stand sw dub rodeo 9's???

Someone please make a side to side video of joss' and jesper's good runs with the tricks and landings in slomo. So I can figure out if joss' was better in even ONE aspect.

And even the commentators didn't even know what to say in response to the score...." I guess he just didn't spin hard enough to impress the judges" Like come on! They know judging is bias to North America and the best they can say is he didn't spin fast enough on the only 1620 in slopestyle!!! DA FuCK do they want!!! A FUCKing Future spin to prove he is better than decent!!!!

But seriously someone make that video so we can see if joss had even one part of landing/grab/variety/amplitude/style better. Make it clear and obvious all they want is ratings and money.

anyone have a link for snowboard slope eliminations going on right now that isn't the official ESPN3 one? Cant find anything!

If you can throw it up against joss's. I'd say you could throw it up against anyone's run and compare. surely he was better than one of them.

I guess Joss (and many other guys who made the final) was cleaner overall, but damn Jesper really got robbed. That underflip on, the unique switch dub cork 10 and that dub 16 should have gotten him into finals for sure, even if he did drag his hand slightly on the last hit (it was hard to tell because the stream was such low quality).
