Official World Cup Thread

you can't say anything about that goal for france being passed the line...there is no way in hell a linesman or the ref would be able to tell from any angle, they don't see the slow-mo birds eye view we get. and even with the replay the announcers couldn't decide...so it's not all the refs, basically korea pwns all frenchies

Was that Zidanes last ever professional football game?

who thinks its true?

i dunno if the french can pull it off

If it was, he sure did go out in style. Plus a few players do come out of retirement to help out their teams at future world cups.

Well, his last professional game was supposed to be at the Euro cup in 2004 i think... i forget what happended there...

But anyways, Zidane WAS retired from the nmational team, but he came back for this world cup. And lo and behold, France might not make it past the first round.... again.

At least they scored a goal this time. First time in a world cup since 1998!

I think he will play again. The French only have to beat Togo to move on, and I think they can do it without Zidane.

He has said that he was going to retire after the world cup. The question was about whether that was his last game.

exactly, a decision like that is almost impossible to make, in a split second..

and hopefully togo will make it 1-1 to make the game really exciting in the last minutes

the linesman should have seen that, if he stood at the cornerflag he would have had a straight angle with the goal. If he stood there he couldnt see the ball so that means a goal... A good linesman should have seen that on this level.

thats true. I don't know about a clear view cause there were probably people in the way and such, but still, he should have at least called the ref over to have a little chat. Being a ref must be so nerveracking though, I Mean 40,000+ INSANE fans watching every single move you do. I could not do it. Props to the refs even though they still should have gotten that. People say introduce replays for refs, but i dont want soccer to become like American football, aka boring and shitty with 20 minute breaks every 2 seconds

but i couldn't even tell on the replay if the whole ball was in.. and he has to decide in under a scond whether it was in or not, and that's is hard as hell.. so i think he did nothing wrong, and i would think the same if it had been judged a goal

the ball must be more than half accross the line if I remember correctly, so him not being able to see it would just mean that it's in line with the post...also, there was a korean on the near side post, plus the goalie.

for it to be a goal all of the ball must be over the whole line. but i agree, since the defender was next to the post it would be pretty impossible for the lines man to see it. i'm just disappointed that the goal wasn't counted.

i don't think that it will be his last game. all france has to do is beat Togo by two to be guarenteed a berth to the next round. Even if France only beats Togo by one they could still advance if the Suisse Korea game isn't a tie.

I'd say France's chances are pretty good of advancing though.

France is in awful shape. they havent won a game since the 98 world cup and is in danger of not making it through pool play.

Spain!!! Cesc Fabregas is fucking amazing, what a pass! And the strike from torres was good to.. also fun to see raul score a goal after a bad season in real madrid

Ukraine really stepped up their game today.

I think the Saudi's are a lot better than they performed today, but the Ukraine just went house on them.

Switzerland just proved again that they have what it takes to make it to the elimination stage.

yeah, but i think fabregas is going to be better, his sense of the game is amazing and he is only like 18.. maybe 19, born 1987 atleast..
